What did you do to get those 400 points!? It looks like the same CPU and GPU clocks.. Tighter timings on the ram?

But.... WOOT!!!!! Glad to see it's past 38k now!

So, going up around 92mhz on the memory, you got the 400 points... That's not half bad!!

Is 1240 the highest you can get it?

Does anyone know what the test button does on EVGA Precision? When i up the clocks on my 280 it still is greyed out so I really dont know how I can test its stability other than running a bench and hoping it doesnt bsod i guess..

The Test button supposedly works on some cards but not all. If yours is grayed out (like mine on an 8800GTS 512), just ignore it - and pray for the best. :p

I use furmark, you can download it from this site, I use it in a window on the "stability" setting with AA eneabled, it burns the hell out of the GPU so is a good test although I find that whatever max I get with that, I have to peg the GPU back 5mhz to get a succesful 2006 run, good thing about it though is it gives you temps etc as its running and you can stop it anytime.

yes, but to really tell if it's stable run 3dmark06 and prime on your cpu at the same time. I have found that a stable clock tested only with 3dmark06 will fail in games because of the extra stress the game puts on the cpu. 3dmark06 doesn't always max test the cpu and gpu together enough.

Well, one of my sonics will run COD WaW at 800mhz but it wont run 2006 above 790 although generally I agree but then again, I always run 2006 flat out but never a game, I always peg her back 20mhz for games.

I never even use an oc for games.. Never have found a reason to do so... I just run Fur for 3 times in a row to see the stability of it. Then bench.. But, when I bench, I all ways knock it back on core 20mhz...

TRUE DAT!!! TRUE DAT !!!! got to give ya that one. I do overclock in games because 100 frames to me is fast but 170 frames makes me warm inside.

lmao... Well, I looked at it this way... I OC'ed the 8800gt 1gb from Palit to get 65fps in unreal 3. that was flat for the whole game.. Then I got the Gx2 and it was at stock 65fps... Then this GTX 280 is around 72ish... So why go more!? lol... never cared for Crysis... lol

I was reading that EVGA Precision overclocks incrementally, but my GPU-Z shows an exact match.. Weird.

why drive a Corvette on a 65 mile per hour highway when a cavalier SE will do.

the shaders clock is the most important thing to overclock and once the ram gets past 1150 performance goes down

Interesting... I honestly had no idea that happened.

really somewhere between 1150 and 1180 on my card the timing gets to loose on the ram and performance drops

Well I decided to test where my memory starts slowing me down when I leave the core and shader the same and it is at 1270 actually. The 3DMark score is the highest Ive had so far but I was starting to get artifacts, especially in the outer space scene.

Also, this card runs VERY cool.. During that last bench in the screenie the temps dont even get about 65c. What is the danger zone on these 280s when it comes to heat? The highest mine has been was 77c when I did an gpu burn test on Furmark. When I cranked the fan up to 100 and sped up my case fans to give it a little more cooler air the temp went down and settled at about 72c. I am extremely impressed and in love with the GTX 280 :pimp:

However 10mhz on the core is better than 30mhz on the shaders, it's just that balancing act with NVidia cards, I was very lucky to get my old Gainward GTX260 192 to 800/1600 but sometimes she would get tempremental and not wanna go above 790/1580 but i found the real advantage to be with the core speed.

I believe I've found the extent of my cards oc.. I'm still going to go and do the tricks that Fit's told me about, but even trying it last night I was still stuck at 730core.. But, I'll be throwing more at the baby!! Damn Step-up! lol

tatty, thanks. It's not something that I've found to be right way to oc it. Just something I did after killing my 8800gt!

how is it you guys have core:shader ratios that exceed 1:2? i though 1:2 was the most that could be.

Maximum GPU Temperature (in C) 105 C

Those are some nice temps, mine goes over 80C with furmark and didn't seems like there was exsessive paste the little I could see the 'core' under the cooler. I'd put some Noctua paste there, but these are paint to take apart looking at W1zzard review.

I can't at least with EVGA Precision go over the 1:2, resets to defaults.
