I can't at least with EVGA Precision go over the 1:2, resets to defaults.

that was what i was wondering. I have had stability issues with my 280 when the shaders outnumbered the core. And it was stability issues in games and windows, i though it was a defective card for the longest time.

Well I decided to test where my memory starts slowing me down when I leave the core and shader the same and it is at 1270 actually. The 3DMark score is the highest Ive had so far but I was starting to get artifacts, especially in the outer space scene.

Also, this card runs VERY cool.. During that last bench in the screenie the temps dont even get about 65c. What is the danger zone on these 280s when it comes to heat? The highest mine has been was 77c when I did an gpu burn test on Furmark. When I cranked the fan up to 100 and sped up my case fans to give it a little more cooler air the temp went down and settled at about 72c. I am extremely impressed and in love with the GTX 280 :pimp:

That is a decent 24/7 clocking job on your 280 remember the 280 gtx has a bunch more shaders and uses more voltage than the 260 gtx.

Well a little lame compared to what Fit is pulling off with his setup but here is my best run so far on Vantage with my 192SP GTX260 on a Q6600. May be useful comparison for someone with similar setup. 13757 Vantage score....

Have ordered an XFX GTX280, at the end of the day I got it new for the price of a GTX260 216 and almost £100 cheaper than the cheapest GTX285. Looking at the performance advantages of the 285, I couldnt justify the huge difference in price.....so I am back in the club..... although I have kept the 2 Palit's also!

Edit: Having missed the last couple of Forceware releases as I moved to the red side, whats the best driver pack for the 280?

It seems like the newest one works the best for me, 180.22. Anything 178.xx and above should be fine too. Anyone else know of any betas that seem work well on the 280?

185.20 should work with 2 displays and 2D clocks, haven't tried 'em, but so I've read. I assume you meant those drivers and seems to have 2 displays, do they?

just picked up a EVGA 280 gtx for 260.00 so my xfx 216 will be gone soon couldn't pass that up, but I doubt I will see any difference. Still a 280 gtx EVGA for260.00 is a good deal.

Perhaps, I doubt if my 280 will be as fast as my old Gainward GTX260 192 @ 795mhz TBH but you will get more for a 280 than a 260 on Fleabay when you come to sell it (which knowing you will be next week :p).

I have 280's and where the 260's come close to 280's it's when you clock the snot out of them,
and I have always managed to beat those 260's ..:rockout:

So i don't think your old Gainward GTX260 192 @ 795mhz will beat the 280's

now if you will see any difference except the 280 will put up better benching numbers, I doubt it too..

So, that's how they are "better"... Probably do better with NO back plate...

Not knowing exactly how the cooling on those cards work I suspect they may serve any/all of 3 functions:

1) Directing airflow to the places they want it to go.
2) Decorative
3) Finger protection. Keeping fingers out of fans. ESD discharges off components.

I would always use backplates, I like to protect all those connections from bumbled screws and other stuff while they are on, but I am always fiddling while things are rocking.

Well, my 280 is a heat monster.. trying to figure out a way to get it down a few more c's. I've discovered that it breaks down at 83c, and trying to get 700/1512 so checking it with furmark, and it starts to break down. Checked rivatuner logs, and sure enough 82c going for 83. Never gets quite that high at 1458 shaders, so guess that's why it's stable. I've got 8 120mm case fans including the hi-output panaflo side fan for the vid cards. Temp actually goes up if I open the side panel. I've regreased the gpu with as5 with only marginal results. Water cooling is very expensive for this card, and the hr03-gtx would require I remove my tuner card and 2nd vid card, which I can't do, and is still pretty darn expensive. Any ideas what I can do so I can hit 1512 and not spend a fortune? I'm toying with the idea of decreasing vcore, but not sure how that would go.... and yes fan is at 100%, I can actually hear it over the din of the 8 case fans!

Funny, something must be wrong with your card. I'm @ 100% and it never goes over 63C with the overclock 756/1566/1323

Wait for Accelero XTREME GTX 280 next month. I hit 83C while gaming on stock (edit: that was COD:WaW 1680x1050 maxed with 4xAA, 16AF), not that high, but wouldn't mind lower. And the stock cooler isn't bad sounding either, better than the one in 9800GTX+.

http://www.arctic-cooling.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=2_&mID=237&language=en

I really liked how silent twin turbo was on my previous card and temps still as good as stock. That'll be a monster and under 3 slots.
