wtf is the point... paper thin and they dont even contact the card.

The thermalpad makes contact with the backside of the core, rest of it acts like a squished heatsink. Of course you could add more thermal pads if there are more hot spots in the back. Or if you want is just for the looks/protection you could leave the pad out.

I have 280's and where the 260's come close to 280's it's when you clock the snot out of them,
and I have always managed to beat those 260's ..

So i don't think your old Gainward GTX260 192 @ 795mhz will beat the 280's

now if you will see any difference except the 280 will put up better benching numbers, I doubt it too..

Hmmmmmmm not so sure, I have seen plenty of 280's on a quad around the same speed as mine with less than 22,000 points but I do agree that if you can get a 280 that will clock at say 720 or more then it would probably best it.

OK, got the XFX 280 in tonight, had a very quick play, am a bit of a noob with the 280 and I know they clock differently to my old 260.

I would welcome any input, I have not gone to the limit yet (I think) purely because I have had no crashes! I just kept the memory at 1200mhz to be on the safe side, I have unlocked the core/shaders and left the shaders at 1566 (have not tried more) and have got the core to 740mhz, I did 20 minutes in furmark full screen with AA enabled, then I did a complete run of 2006 with MAX quality settings in control panel and she ran the full suite no problems, I have not posted the result (didnt even look in orb) purely because the CPU was at 24/7 and as I said, max quality, not performance. Stock cooling but the temps got to 75C with fan on 100% but its fairly warm in my study with heating on at around 20C ambients.

Tomorrow i will run a full bench at these settings for a score and post here, then see if she will do a little more (providing she does these settings again).......what kind of memory speeds can I expect?

In 3Dmarks you can probably push it anywhere from 1300-1400 but don't expect that in other applications. I can't get it stable to game at those memory speeds.

Funny, something must be wrong with your card. I'm @ 100% and it never goes over 63C with the overclock 756/1566/1323

Is that with a volt mod? I just got an EVGA 280, and I can't seem to get past 710/1502/1250.

No volt mod. That's the max OC for my card before it starts to artifact in games. In 3Dmarks I can get higher clocks.

hit a brick wall with my gtx 260 it seems to crash at higher clocks even the ram i think is maxed out but its a high clock and its COOOOL...
when they release the new evga precision ill try crank up the volts, got plenty of temp room to do it

And any card flashed with an EVGA BIOS supposidly Further to my new escapades, got the GTX280 to 750 core without artifacts but still have kept the shaders unlinked at 1566, had a quick play this morning before going to work, full stress tests and hopefully some benching tonight! I need to see if this "thing" will go as fast as my 2 Sonics in Xfire.

Tatty...I am not sure you can unlink the shaders on the Gtx280. It may say its unlinked in riva tuner but when you launch into 3d app it's linked. Try launching the temp monitor in Riva tuner and switch between 2d and 3d apps..

Im betting you are exactly on the same step as me...756/1512. I think the next step is like 271/1580ish.

As For the linking. With Percision, you can set the core clock, then unlink it and run the Shader to whatever you want.. But, You have to set the Core first, then unlink.. Yeah, after you go back into the tool, it show's as link, but it's no where near what it would be "linked" for the Shader...

Regarding Percision, I am not sure that is correct, if it is thats awesome. I do not think you can actually unlink this card. Regardless of what the software tells you. I run atitool just for the 3d cube and also run riva tuner temp monitor. No matter what I put in they are always linked.

Actually they were suppose to be part of a trade for the gtx280. However, one of them was defective, so both cards are being RMA'd. Just couldn't resist going back to the 200 series.

Ahhh... Doing some math on me Zen!

I'll do some stuff with duel monitoring tonight and see if the Way that I'm talking works.. I know that no matter what I do it will all ways show "link" when the program comes back on. But, if you look at the sliders it's all ways where it was from the time I closed it... I've never used anything else...

Yeah let me know how that works out for you. I think the software you're using locks the sliders in place, but the hardware doesn't actually do what the software says it's doing. If you are right, then I am stoked and will be using Percision...in fact I think I will install it and test it out tonight as well.

Well the thing about Percision is that it's EVGA cards... I've never told anyone to try it without it.. But Bios flash it to evga would work from what I heard.. I'll do an update probably around 5pm est.. That gives me enough time to throw it together and run a few.

Of course. Mine's an EVGA SC. I can't seem to push it over 710/1500/1200. I'm hoping a voltage increase will give me some headroom.

All right. I have some pictures to show. And to show that with Percision allows you to unlink the clocks..

First off is picture me going to The link clocks.

Then here is me going to the clocks that I use for benching

Now, here is what it shows when I close it after Applying those clocks And opening it back up

Yes, my clocks are linked as the "tab" says... But as you can tell, it's not the Actual "link" clock... The Actual link clock is 1550, not 1505. You can tell the difference between the sliding bar. The link one is dead on, while the Second "link" one is a little father off to the left.


Now, here is a bench run. I ran Vantage's GPU tests, and a 1:43 into the second test, I took this ss.

As you can tell, I'm not trying to fool anyone. The real time tracker on Percision show's that I have been running it for some time, and the temps have been going up and down due to a bench. But, the clock hasn't went away from where it was the whole time... 1512 because of how the software does strange things... lol.. Linked it was 1566



So, how did I do it? Something that Fit's told me to start doing.. When you first go and clock it with Percision. It will link. But, then after you hit apply, you can hit the "link" button and then change the shader to whatever you want it to be.. You can even go up if you want to... lol
You just have to hit Apply and be done with it once you get it to where you wanted it.. No matter how many times you open Percision.. It will all ways say "link" but, the clocks on both the slider and realtime shows it's NOT!!!!
