See the quote in shevanel's post.

And you are assuming that Fermi will be available in large quantities at launch because...?

The HD5800s aren't that hard to find. Maybe people wont find them at their local retailers, but with a little patiente and some online searching, most will have one after 2 or 3 days.

Look I appreciate you saying Fermi once in your post, but keep the HD5XXX series discussion OUT OF HERE.

At least that's true.

(I'm just trying to remain neutral here, and am saying this only to counter Fud's statement that the low production of 5870's will "actually" work in Nvidia's favor.)

Yes, it will work in Nvidia's favor, as only a few people will get DX11 cards from ATI during 2009. However, this delay by Nvidia "actually" does hurt Nvidia.

The gaming enthusiast market is not the only thing Nvidia does though. I think they put more effort in other markets to make up for it and the midrange is where the majority of gaming profit is made and Nvidia is doing fine in that segment. Look at the sales numbers more than the performance numbers if you want to talk about the financial aspect.

eh newtekie and i argued/discussed bout who is in control of the mainstream and imo ATI owns <$150 market but up from there its just whatever your budget is as they're bout equal neither have a direct competitor for a price range, cards are all distanced bout $20 bucks apart. So i'd say ATI has the upper hand and that Nvidia has to be hurting more than benefiting right now.

Thats not really what the sales numbers say though. You guys can argue about performance all day but sales numbers don't lie. Nvidia is doing very well: http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=107711

My 8800GT still can play games pretty well atm, and there are no must have dx11 titles yet. Right now, I have $350 in cash saved up for a new card, by the time (Jan?) NVIDIA released their card I will have more. Maybe, waiting right now is a good thing...

GT300 delayed until April 2010?

HEXUS

I damn well hope not. If it is, it's gonna have to be even more powerful, or it will end up being out of date on release day.

Lol I think I said it before. You can estimate a hell-of-a-lot easier than approximating. Every news source that's saying something is saying something different. We've got one for Jan, one for March, and now one for April. What is it NV?

Jensen's physical response sums it up nicely:

" Nvidia will ramp Fermi for three different product lines: GeForce, Quadro and Tesla in the first quarter of fiscal 2011, said Jen-Hsun Huang, CEO of Nvidia, during a recent conference call with financial analysts. Huang's statement means that Nvidia will only be able to start shipping its Fermi-based GPUs in 2010, instead of the end of 2009 as originally planned, the sources pointed out. " source is digitimes http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20091109PD208.html

nvidia's first quarter of fiscal 2011 is between January 26-April 26, 2010 ,everyone is guessing may be january may be april or a launch at january with wider availability later .

The bad news is that this is ages away... but the good news is that I'll have my current card for longer and will therefore get better value out of it. :D

I'm not sure how nvidia can pull this one out of the total nosedive its in right now... its gonna be some interesting marketing thats for sure. 5970 will beat it to market and even possibly a 5890 (r800 refresh) could even be out within 2-3 months of gt300.

All I know is this, I need a DX11 card by the time Dirt 2 hits the shelves. That'll be December 1st. I wanted a choice in my DX11 needs, but unfortunately dissapointment awaits me and I only have two choices: An expensive ATi card, or an even more expensive ATi card. We need Fermi!! :(

Fermi delay has easy fix

Look everybody, the problem with the Fermi delay is easy to fix. It's the thing that nvidia's been doing for some time now. Can you think what it is?

REBRAND!

Yes, just rename a GT200, put it in a "different" series card and add a couple of inconsequential features to make it "different" to the previous card with the same performance and up the price.*

Wow, I can't wait for the "285 GTX+" !! (Notice how I cleverly swapped things round there and added a plus? No one will ever realise. Seriously.)

Can you?!!

*The price upping might be a bit of a problem with the current competition...

If the fermi is out, it will be the choice of a expensive ATi, a more expensive ATi, and an even more freakin expensive nVidia.

I think they are trying not to Rebrand this time around, or may be thay can rebrand due to dx11?
But you can be sure once they do release the card we can look forward to a new gen of rebranded dx11 nv cards
