Though if you reread the rant where he said the 512 was unmanufacturable, separating his rant from his rumor fact, I found that he never really says that its not coming but that it will come with reduced clocks. His rant gets in the way of being able to see that.

I'm not defending his rant. Like qubit said, if he would make it a neutral article then he would get more attention. With that said, he's got fact in his rants, you just have to separate it from his "moles" to get what they are really saying.

Either way, hopefully we'll hear more tomorrow...I'm getting to a point where I may need to upgrade before this summer or 2011. I love my 260, been great for a long time now, but it's age is starting to show and NV doesn't have anything out now that I want to invest in to replace it yet. I don't care if I go ATI or NV, but it'd sure be nice to see some damn competition in the market right now. I don't need a GPU that tries to replace the rest of my system, I need a good GPU to play my damn games smooth where the card it replaced didn't!

I think he was basing the 512 being unmanufacturable on the fact that there is no Telsa 512 sp variant that we know of and if you calculate the shader clock based on the Gflops for the Telsa GF100's max double precision performance you actually get very close to his projected clocks if you guess the core clock is linked(well with the info I am using).

well those 2 links confirm a couple things... the gtx470 has 1GB ram and the gtx480 has 2gb ram, and they both have GDDR5

i post in that thread all the time.

my love of nvidia died dealing with broken specs - G80's F'ed H264 decoding, and G92 having broken SPDIF inputs for the HDMI ports - maybe one in 4 cards actually WORKED with that damn feature.

and then all the rebranding...

The only problem with that fact is that the top-end Fermi chip employs a 384-bit bus, while the GTX 470 employs a 320-bit bus, an identical configuration to the G80 GPU and its two launch products, GeForce 8800GTX and 8800GTS. As such, neither GTX 470 nor GTX 480 cannot facilitate a 2GB quantity of memory. It has to be either 1920MB or 2304MB in order to jive with this requirement. Either the distributor is dead wrong, or the retailer has not been informed of the correct specifications.

I didn't know GPU issues can actually affect the memory. Unless, you're talking about spaces, but then they can still use less memory chips.

maybe the memory controller was party of the yield issues, its in the GPU die isnt it?
