GTX 470 Owners

I’m very pleased with my GTX 470. I had read the reviews prior to purchasing the card and must admit to some initial concern about the reports of excessive noise and heat generated by the new Fermis. I went ahead and bought it anyway – and I’m glad I did.

I live in the tropics, where ambient temperatures range from 33°C to 37°C in the daytime throughout much of the year. My card can hit around 85°C on load when the fan speed is left on auto. As a rule, however, I crank the fan speed up to 70% speed when gaming – and so the card never sees 70°C when I play. The fan is audible, yes, but only when I make an effort to listen for it.

It performs very well. My i5 750 is still on stock speeds but already I get good, smooth framerates from Arma 2 with post-processing settings at high. On lighter games such as MW2, I get an average of around 170 FPS, all in-game settings set to maximum and with GPU-controlled multisampling turned on.

This is the best investment I've made with my current rig. I'm so pleased with it that I'm now planning to go 470 SLI.

Ive been running my 470 for a few weeks now and i couldnt be happier. I play BFBC2 with everything maxed and it runs great. I have had no need to overclock it yet, all the games I play run flawlessly. But of course I may overclock it for fun you know how that is.

popped in my msi gtx470 last night, seems to run way hotter and slower than my gtx295 ftw, but it does seem to oc better (the 295 would barely budge from ftw clocks and without voltage control there was little to be done)

839 core 1678shader 1839 mem, running quite hot during load during those clocks but we're starting to near the 295's performance level.

Actually when you compare it to it's currently series (ie taking the 4870x2 and the gtx295 out of the comparison) This card is one hell of a deal. It's just those last series dual cards that seem to trumpt it for a similar or in this case cheaper price.

heaven bench looks nice with tessalation, but in the end I think it came down to the fact that this card was free after I sold the 275 coop and 295 coop ftw. So based on the free cards I've recieved over the years, this is definetly the best one.

Still miss my old 480 gtx but for my friends new build I think I will use a 5850. I picked one up new for him at 269.99 and no 470 gtx is that cheap so ATI it will be thanks guys for the info. Alot of good info was posted here about the 470 gtx but it became about money.

still even with the fugly cooler you can't knock the 180$ profit on my gtx295 sale and the fact that it has a warranty, card is upsidon in my rig anyways. But I'll admit the 295 ftw looked much better

Still fugley, didn't know you had that one but it is still a great card. Also it is only a sticker.

and keep your warranty, as a matter of fact they don't, had that issue with a 5850. It will void your warranty. Crazy as that seems it's true.

just toss on an after market cooler and keep the original handy.
haven't seen any "warranty void if this here screw is removed" stickers on it but even if ther was one you can steam it off and then put it back on along with the stock cooler if you ever have to rma it.

I sold mine last week. Good performance, but the EVGA GTX 470 SC runs HOT, up in the 80-90 range in my case while gaming. Played with MSI Afterburner and custom fan profiles, but, well, the fan gets loud. So for me, not worth it, I can either have an oven under my desk (in Florida) or a jet engine. When not gaming, it isn't even noticeable, though.
Didn't read through the thread, so I'm sure it's all been said.

Well i love this card, we have a heat wave now and the Airco is turned on all day and some nights.
Gaming BC2 i get 70ºC (fan 70% in Afterbruner)

are you using fine china to eat pizza?


my car runs at about 65C load at stock. at 839 core 1638 shader it runs at 93C load.
it's actually not bad for a stock cooler I wonder in my maze 4 gpu block will fit though.

It's absolutely nothing compared to the kind of pizza that latin americans eat in their countries (real italian pizza). Here it's grease, grease, and more grease. I miss Argentinian pizza and empenadas and medialunas and steak dinners for $10

ok, so out of the box, nothing soooo special LOL, I do that when I am eating the whole pizza, not a leftover part.
My pizza is from a real Italian restaurant, thin, crusty, olive oil... In the supermarket they sell something they call 'American pizza': it is spongy and disgusting.

Argentinian cousine is very good, a mixture of Spanish, northern and southern Italian, and other, and real good meat! Cheers and Buen provecho

i just ordered the MSI fugly sticker version for $269 with the promo code. For $250 w/ MIR its a ncie price... I was gonna go with the MSI 460 1gb cyclone , but i see a stock 470 kicking its ass even when OC'd to the max in alot of benches.

Damn!!, i ordered that same MSI 470 for $300., with i had that promo code before hand.

Can't wait till it gets here in a couple days so i can SLI it with my current EVGA card, it's gonna be awesome.

And i agree, the sticker on it is ugly as hell.
