Well, of course they want to mess with SLI hack. Nevertheless, since 257 drivers work, and in my specific case, I can assure you that I won't be buying a new card just because of that. My SLI outperforms in most cases a single vanilla 5870; I will buy a new card when newest games have problems with theses drivers.
One might wonder why they chose to stop now, and not a year ago: Economy. Comparing Xfire and SLI capable P55 mobos, SLI enabled cost ~25€ more. I don't blame them for making us buy the SLI mobo in harsh times...
NVIDIA Economy:
source: http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/video/..._Lowers_Revenue_Guidance_for_the_Quarter.htmlNvidia Corp. on Wednesday announced that it expected revenue for the second quarter ending August 1, 2010, to be drastically lower than the guidance provided with the company's financial results for its first quarter. The company blamed poor sales of consumer graphics processing units (GPUs) as well as economic weakness in certain parts of the world.
