32nm was cancelled. It's going from 40nm straight to 28nm. Figure we'll see the HD 7XXX series on 28nm late next year.

NO kidding! Huh, well that is really cool. There are many articles out there enforcing that, can't believe I never read a single one before today. Sweeet! :toast:

Last year, before the 5xxx series was released, we started to get leaks and stuff around mid-August. Since the launch seems to be mirroring what ATi did last year we'll probablly see more info/maybe pics in a couple weeks! :D

Well hey more video cards the better. Hope to see more non connectors tho. I also want to see some more 2gb video cards. On another note, the only 2 cards which i plan to buy before the end of the year is a GTX 460 1 GB OC card, and a Radeon card, either a 5670, 5770 or 5750. I know i said i was buying a 5770, but i really don't feel like upgrading my psu in my dual core. So i may end up getting a 5750 at best or a 5670. The new 6000 series i guess i will buy sometime way next year or something.

As long as your PSU is good it could handle a 5770. My 400W Corsair did...

yea, i would def think a thermaltake would be able to handle the HD 5770. also if you going for GTX 460, i wouldn't even think of an ATI card unless your in it for the collecting idea, bc the GTX 460 no matter the game is going to out-perform any ATI card at HD 5770 perf level or lower.

My PSU is Thermaltake TR2 W0070RUC 430W ATX12V V2.2 Intel Co...
I found out a few weeks ago that is really a 350W PSU, which is why i think my PNY GTS 250 couldn't run it( i did buy a bfg 450 for my quad which i " had " and it worked just fine ). I also found out that the gts 250 draws 150 w lol, the 5770 draws what 105 i think?

hm i do believe that 20amps is the recommended 12v juice for an HD 5770...and that PSU i would think would hold up but it'd def be cutting it close. Tell ya what man, u've finally gotten to pci-e with power connectors, time to move up just a tad in the PSU department as well to accomidate ur upgrades. DEF won't power a GTX 460

EDIT: then again i read some of the reviews for that PSU and people were powering x1950pro's with it and x19X0 series took some juice forsure, on par or more than an HD 5770. and honestly the HD 5770 takes bout 30watts less than a GTS 250 at peak and with your CPU not being power hungry i again agree that it'll handle it

Yeah it's about that much on load.

I had a X1950 GT that used to take almost around 190W on load lol. And temps were around 70+ lol. So its not even close to being at par with HD 5770. Its much, much more. :)

Look for the HD 7000 series to get released sometime in Q2 2011 (June 2011). But it all depends on how long they can run with Southern Islands and at the same time keep pressure on NVIDIA. My next upgrade will be the HD 7000 series but it all depends on how well Southern Islands performs per cost. :D My 2 x Sapphire HD 4870's in CrossfireX more than enough for me right now.

But at the same time I wouldn't mind waiting for ATI's code name Hecatonchires GPU design. Despite Wiki's information on the matter, there's still no concrete info on this secret GPU design.

Q2 2011? don't u mean H2 2011? i can't imagine ATI only releasing SI for 5 months n then rolling out NI, esp since none of us have heard or expect nvidia to really bounce back by the time SI is out. I'd say they'll live on SI for a while and just build up bulk of NI so there's a solid release in Q4 2011/Q1 2012

2x product development teams, each with 3-year time-lines, makes for new gpus each year, once we add in revisions within a series.

As 40nm is still kinda broken, they'll liekyl move to 28nm, and the design for it, ASAP. Truly at this point, release of the next gen is kinda up to Glo-Fo and TSMC.

So, for other than the rumoured chips this fall, we really need to focus not on ATi/AMD, but those that make the chips, for real timelines. That stuff is out of AMD's control, for the most part.

Haha yeah. Fermi is no match lol. What i didn't like about the 1950GT was it used to get hot in just about 2mins. And after about 5months of use, there was graphic corruption after playing a game for about an hour.

It will take just over 2 years for NVIDIA to get back in the game IMO. Now that they've cancelled all 40nm orders from TSMC which makes ATI getting 40nm very easy. Don't know what the hell NVIDIA is doing but thank goodness FINALLY there Arrogance finally caught up with them

I think you would be very surprised. Fermi is the base architecture for dx11, just like the 2900XT was the ATI dx10 base architecture. Which is ultimately the granddaddy of the 5 series. Grandaddies tend to suck. FX series, 2900 series, GF100 Series... G80 was an exception. AMD's turn to make a new Grand Daddy.

Nvidia's strategy is now to... shrink GF104... double up the design... Shrink that... double up.

Same as AMD did with the 2900.

SemiAccurate said:
Nvidia is canceling wafer starts on 40nm
Translated from CD's nonsense this means nothing but that nVIDIA is merely decreasing WSPM, the amount of wafers to be printed, most like due to GF100 -> GF104 transition, definitely not "cancelled all 40nm orders" or "no new archetecture on 40nm".

Benchmark Scores I'm the Doctor, Doctor Who. The Definition of Gaming is PC Gaming...

Not AMD, it was ATI. AMD will make sure the 2900 won't repeat.

If they don't drop the prices of the 58XX series soon, these are going to be expensive.

Benchmark Scores They're pretty good, nothing crazy.

That was exactly when AMD bought ATI... Ati had the lead with the x1900 series before that. If anything AMD caused the 2900xt. This is the company that gave us the horrible first generation Phenom... following the incredible Athlon.
