Your ass is 256bit and 48 rops?! Funny, that's what most people think the Cayman XT is going to be! :D

looks like the back of a fire pro to me. have you confirmed this?

It's a Cayman XT qualification sample (hence the red PCB), no FirePro has that cooler. It's not that the memory fairy is going to double the memory bus width between qual samples and final product.

you sure have good eye:eek:

well this may still turn out to be 512bit if the memory bus can be tweak from 8rop/64bit per cluster to 16rops/128bit cluster and each ram chip sustaining 64bit and it may still match that 8x config (64x8 =512)

That is totally a function of the memory chip. There is no memory chip (in production, or development) with a 64-bit wide path. If that was the case, the memory chip would have at least 80% higher pin count, and the chip would be twice as large. If you see the back of the PCB, those look liks standard GDDR5 chips, 8 in number, and hence it's a standard 256-bit wide interface.

can you show me the the back pcb of cypress? i need comparison cause the pad on that card seem to be larger than original GDDR5(nearly as large as old DDR ram). maybe my eyesight is just as bad as grandma's old pet.......

kinda, besides the red color there's nothing really that in common with the layout or anything. The pic def isn't real, but i can see it being a legit drawing of the card.

I said partially as in it was a prototype that they altered the fan only in the photo. Looks grainy like an alteration to make it angled. Could just be from a cheap digital camera having trouble with low light but its looks altered to me. They might have other photos that show it better. I wouldn't think they would need to photoshop it into the photo but it just looks that way to me. lol

the cooler could be an add in. the fact that the photo leaked september 6th and the card isn't due out until november and that likely will be a paper launch.

now i will say that the fire pro v9800 was demo'd a few days later sept 10 but the card has memory on the back and a power connector in the wrong place which would rule out this one.

at any rate until I see an up to date official pic i'm not going to put credence in some random pic defining the next generation of amd's gpu specs.

especially not when other random pics seem to show blurred out 48 rop's on promotion slides.

Official AMD Radeon 6000 Series Discussion Thread

so here's the real deal then IF caymen has 32 rops, THEN barts only has 16 enabled (32 may be present/possible but as we've seen with the 5000 series amd is more than capable of disabling them aka the 5830 with 256-bit bus and 16 rops)

IF barts has 32 rop's enabled THEN caymen must have more. 48 being the most likely number. we already know caymen is 3/2 barts in shaders/tmu's so it only makes sense to beef up the raster pipes and memory bit as well.

Wow... AMD's dealings are in stark contrast to nVidia's announcements of announcements of announcements.
~1 week left (supposedly) til release date and they're still so quiet you could hear ants crawling... :p

and even at that we STILL won't know caymen's specs after barts launches. so aggrivating.

AMD Radeon HD 6000 Card Pictured

An unnamed Radeon HD 6000 series card has been pictured at Chiphell. Kind of, anyway. Half of the card has been cropped out. The first thing worth noticing is a somewhat bland, boxy, yet elegant, cooler, with a massive fan. The card also seems to be fairly long - around the same length as a HD 5870.

While the card has not been identified by the poster, it is most likely either HD 6700 or 6800. Forum posters have taken the liberty to mirror-image the half-cropped picture to make up a rough projection of what the full card might look like.

In addition, price rumours are being thrown around as well - with anything from $249 to 2399 Yuan (~$350).

fake..

AMD CAYMANXT SPECS
SHADERS:480*4
ROPS:48
BUS:256BIT
BANDWIDTH:204.8GBPS

Every field is perfectly centered, or max 1 pixel off if it can't be centered perfectly, except for these:

Name: Ati Radeon HD 6800 Series (should be 1px to right)
GPU: Caymen (should be 1px to left)
Buswidth 256 Bit (should be 1px to right)

I don't know if it says anything.. but looks a bit too coincidental to me:confused:.

beware of nvidia spy on this thread! these nvidia supporter had plan to spread false rumor to prevent amd from doing enthusiast product and several member in this forum are specious(who bought an nvidia card recently or work for nvidia.) they claim that amd won't go more than 32 rops or more than 256bit bus while nvidia will secretly make super power chip and getting amd a smackdown. the people who rumor that amd won't make enthusiast card and only make mid range card or saying mainstream market are more profit are mostly nvidia owners! i don't need to mention whoever make those false claim but you can find it yourself by check their rig spec. some of them never own a amd card. they even say they ain't going to buy amd card if they release bigger powerful GPU while their spec list says they have gtx470!!

this is how they discuss incoming gtx 485 in evga forum
source:http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?m=483316&mpage=2

The first GTX 260 had 192 stream processing cores, not 196. The 8800GTX was threatened by the 3870 X2 so they released the 8800 Ultra which had a better cooler, faster clock speeds and could overclock more. The GTX 260 was threatened by the 4870 so they released the CORE 216 which was actually done by NVIDIA partners only. The GTX 480 is not threatened by any ATI card yet, and it won't be for quite some time since ATI's next cards will not be enthusiast level cards.

As for the GTX 280 -> GTX 285 and 9800GTX -> 9800GTX+, those were die shrinks. Also the 4850 was faster than the 9800GTX, so the 9800GTX+ was their answer. Then they went and released another 9800GTX+ called the GTS 250 which was shorter and required only one PCI-E connector.

i bet it must be these people that protest that caymen will be enthusiast level card. not even the nvidia fan like me can tolerate this anymore...you can hope nvidia bring better product but framing the rival's product is just not right!

call me troll if you want but i had to spoke the truth!

I don't know if it says anything.. but looks a bit too coincidental to me:confused:.

you can't have 48 rops on 256bit bus, logically odd rops has to go with odd bus. and that rumor is completely false.

^Right you are, that's some 1141.6mm² of hot red silicon on cool black leather.
Now, if I just could get my hands on two of them short R600s (short is 8.35" , normal is 9.5"), PCB#: 109-B00131-00, I'd be positively ecstatic.

I have short ES cards, but I cannot locate them...was gonna do some benching, but can't for the life of me find 'em!

I was kinda hoping 6-series would be shortened compared to 5-series...

I assume that the same 5-series PCB will be re-used, with the extra phases in place though.:shadedshu If the pic shown earleir is real, then I think i'd be correct.

The card in this pic is a bit different from Cypress reference. This one actually has six populated GPU phases, two memory phases, and possibly one uncore vDDCI near the CF fingers. All Volterra.

Cypress has 4 (of 5 possible) vGPU phases populated, 1 phase vDDCI and 1+1 memory vDD+vDDQ.

yeah, there's also some difference between the core and pci-e slot. Reference HD5870 is 5-phase board...so very close.

Heh...I've woken up today with a pretty bad head cold, so am not exactly thinking straight...uh...6-series has 2xDP, too.

The move from 4-phase to 6-phase in kinda concerning...either it's much more power hungry than 5-series, or gpu is far more capable, and requires extra VCC.

Seems rather odd, to be honest. Can't make heads nor tails of what these cards really are...

Well, the new SPU config should increase ALU utilization and as such push average power consumption closer to maximum which we know is much higher for Cypress and it's elders. For example W1zz's review ref. 5870 averages at 122W but max is 212W.

I guess, but then AMD is in Fermi/R600-land is power consumption. that's really scary...

TSMC really screwed things up...

Probably closer to GTX470 than GTX480. I'd guess Cayman to draw somewhere around 160-170W average, 240W max when Furmarked.
