ASUS Radeon HD 6990 Listed on Pre-Order

European retailer salland.eu listed ASUS' upcoming Radeon HD 6990 graphics card on pre-order. It can be pre-ordered for € 715 (about US $1,000). Items put on pre-order can tend to be a little expensive, but € 715 is a staggering price. Even if (the big if) the retailer set its pre-order price a good 20% above the release price, we're looking at a € 572.25 ($ 802) retail price for the ASUS HD 6990, at least in EU.

The listed card carries the SKU EAH6990 3DI4S/4GD5. Specifications listed show that the card carries clocks of 830 MHz core, and 1250 MHz (5000 MHz effective) memory. It packs 4 GB of total memory. AMD's Radeon HD 6990 graphics card is expected to be launched tomorrow.

If it's equivalent to two 6970's, it should be priced around the price of two 6970's, give or take. £270 for cheapest 6970 = £540 for a 6990. What do folk expect it to retail at? It's the fastest card in the known universe.....

The 5970 was way more than two 5850's when it came out yet it was the same in performance....

I'm betting Nvidia sell their 590's at a loss to put the pressure on AMD.

1002$ dollars when you can get two 6970's some places for just under $700 and most places just over $700. Unless this card is an improvement over two 6970's (highly doubt it) then it will be way over priced if this is the true list price.

Unless AMD knows something we don't like.... the GTX 590 is not really going to happen or it won't be anyway near as powerful as this card. If that's the case I can see them trying to price gouge us for the worlds most powerful card.

But even if that is the case.... I sure won't pay $1002.00 USD for it at the current exchange rate!!!

Sure, AMD could price it at that IF they were the clear performance leaders. But nVidia is the performance leader right now on the single card market, and AMD is the bang for the buck leader. I believe GTX590 would be faster than a HD6990 unless nVidia are forced to lower the clocks. GTX580 alone is using up a lot of power, much more than a HD6970.

I believe a GTX590 with 1024 shaders and 650MHz on the core would match a HD6990.

Also remember, HD6990 would probably lose the advantage of single card eyefinity because GTX590 might bring it to a single card. (It should, because it has the power!) And nVidia has 3D Vision as well.

AMD should price this card around $650. It would hit nVidia really hard!

You're probably pretty close to what it's going to be. Given the all-too-common unfair conversion ratio of 1 € = 1 $, this card will probably be $699. Too expensive, but just wait a while until the GTX590 comes out, and it'll be cheaper.

Crossfire 6970 and SLI GTX 580 are about equal in performance. Chances these flagship dual cards are going to be very evenly matched.
As long as there is a decent supply and the price isn't absolutely retarded, when I upgrade I might go triple-monitor and get either one of these beasts. Just waiting on Bulldozer and SB. My little 5850 and Phenom II are still giving me decent gaming performance.
By the time I get around to upgrading, they will probably have Radeon 7990 and GTX 690 ready LOL.

Pretty pointless card, just AMD trying to claim the crown. Although with those clocks and the same amount of shaders as the 6970, it will perform like crazy. No point really in buying the card if your not running Eyefinity. Especially when (hopefully) both Kepler and Southern Islands with the die shrink will come in Q4. If TSMC doesn't mess up of course...
