How To: Enable SLI on pre-i7/i5 hardware

Now Nvidia's nforce chipset business has gone I was hoping they would just remove all SLI limitations and allow SLI on any chipset, but maybe they can't do this for legal reasons because of their deal with intel? So it seems there will still be checks and counter-measures in their new drivers but hopefully it will be easier to "fake" an FX990 chipset on older AMD boards? We will just have to wait and see...

Damn, i Hope the sli hack will still work with the upcoming drivers... honnestly don't understand nVIDIA, what's their point? thanks to the SLi kack they sell cards, they should be thankfull.

Well, hail to the dev team, hope they will find the solution.

they also sell the rights to use SLI to boardpartners...but until now just Intel bought them... i guess they hope for more "Customers"

dont fear, until now the Dev Team had no Problems to kill off Nvidias protection routines... in fact they are much faster and more flexible than Nvidia all in all, and what they can remove in a few days, takes months for Nvidia to implement again.

Yeah sure they sell license.. but I really think there is more benefits to get from selling card to the customers than selling license to mobo partners... eg. without the sli hack I would not bought my second GTX460 and would probably have gone to ATi.

Well, In dev we trust :D

think about it: Nvidia is a VERY greedy company... they want the money from the sales AND the license fees... if they could, they would sell their cards for even higher prices...
but luckily, monopolism is forbidden:laugh:

I tried GTX590 Quad SLI with SLI patch version 1.2b and driver version 267.91. I could enable Quad SLI, but there were severe problems on games and benchmarks. Extreme slowness, flicker, crashing and such.

I didn't try other other driver/patch versions as I'm hoping this will get fixed at some point. I read in some forum that even EVGA has some sort of SLI patch for the latest drivers. Anyone know something about this?

My systen is mainly a CUDA workhorse, so SLI would only be an added bonus for me.

Any news yet if compatibility with the 270.51 driver is fixed? Tried them with slipatch 1.0 but as mentioned by others, got insane flickering in every game. Still using the 267.24's with nvidia's sli profile update and slipatch 1.0, works smooth, great IQ and nice fps.

Only game that doesn't work correct on 267.24 (or any other driver) is crysis2, and not sure if it's crytek (ingame error), nvidia driver or the slipatch that's causing it.

With sli disabled all is well, no flickering, AA & motionblur works fine but ofc low fps.

With sli enabled (even after trying all kind of drivers, nvidia profile adjustments, autoexec etc..) the game gets good fps, but causes insane flickering (only on water, when dead on whole screen,..), and AA + motionblur do not work at all.

267.24 + slipatch 1.2b + evga sli ehancement patch 38 = perfect sli in crysis 2 for me. Continuous 80-90% usage on both cards. Try this combo and see if it works for you.

thnx, will try and post update :) btw, 267.24 beta or the recently april release 267.24 whql?
Also, like mentioned before, sli works, +-90% usage, it's just the flickering and messed up gfx which are a pain in the.., but I guess you knew that ;)

Just looked, can't find a whql ver of 267.24? But shouldn't matter anyways. Don't forget to apply the evga sli enhancement patch to add sli support for crysis 2.

here's the whql, but not as good as the beta :) http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=341862

anyway, did a clean install, didn't fix any issue :(
Only problem i had during install, is that I had to do the evga sli enhancement patch manually since the installer didn't enable sli:
http://www.evga.com/forums/fb.ashx?m=884085

But it's the same as the 267.24 beta slipatch from nvidia which I used before this, so no change there.

Guess it has to be an issue with my G80 cards, perhaps they're not supported yet in the current drivers/profiles for crysis 2 sli :shadedshu

Yeah, I've seen reports of the flickering issue with sli all over. Must be specific cards. Make sure to let the game update to 1.2 as well, not sure if that will help you either.

So I tried this too but it wont work so well :(

Setup:
ASUS P7P55D (does not support SLI, just Crossfire)
Core i5 750
4 GB DDR3
2x ASUS ENGTX 260 mit SLI Bridge
@Windows 7 64bit

Driver I have installed
266.58_desktop_win7_winvista_64bit_international_whql

SLIPatch 0.9 AND 1.0 delivers a bluescreen at windows startup
Just the 1.2 beta is working and I can select SLI in Nvidia Control Panel...

But a lot of games have graphic bugs...
3dmark06, COH, HL2 have flickering and mixing colors and shit
Crysis 2 and L4D2 work as normal but absolutley no performance increase :(

Is it not working because the second PCI Express Slot on the Board hast just 4 Lanes?

this can be a bug, i guess you should contact anatolymik... some boards with pcie x4 might act up with the hack in use;)

Here is a “NVIDIA Official .txt” with all the SLI profiles to date even crisis 2 v1.2 and AC Brotherhood, all you need is the “Geforce SLI Profile Tool”, hit the import button and select the file, then you’re good to go.

NOTE: I use 267.24 + SLIPatch 1.2b and no flickering on Crysis 2

Okay I tried 267.24 + SLIPatch 1.2b with Profile Tool

It works and I think Crysis 2 has increased framerate but there are huge graphicbugs in every game (Crysis 2 too) and the graphiccards make weird noises :P

I think I will try another driver...

edit:
okay I tried:
266.35_desktop_win7_winvista_64bit_international_beta
266.58_desktop_win7_winvista_64bit_international_whql
270.51_desktop_win7_winvista_64bit_international_beta

all with SLIPatch 1.2b, SLI works but all games have graphic issues...flickering etc

SLIPatch 1.0 causes a bluescreen at windows boot with every driver!

Nvidia SLI Profiles doesnt change anything :(

How do I get rid of those flickering ??

edit2: DID IT!

It finally works well!
267.24 + SLIPatch 1.2b

First I tried without SLI Bridge, This stopped the bugs but also the performance increasement.
So I tried the OTHER SLI Bridge Port? or whatever this is called:
gtx260_04a2f.jpg

You see behind the Bridge is a connector which is the same, this is where I placed my bridge and now finally it works fine without bugs!

Without SLI:

With SLI:

But more Important:
Crysis 2
1920x1680 @ Hardcore Details
1x Geforce GTX260 ~25 FPS
2x Geforce GTX260 ~40 FPS :D:D

I am trying to enable SLI on Asus P5q pro turbo with 2 BFG Gtx 260 .... I don't know if any of you ran into this before but whenever i plug in the pcie power plugs to the 2nd card, windows freezes at startup.
I have the latest bios, win 7 x64 ultimate (no SP1) ....
my psu is ultra X4 600W (which is SLI)
I googled and found some have issues when they use 2 cards and they solved by enabling ACPI in bios (mine is enabled .... if i disable i get an error at startup)

any ideas???

Thanks.

Hey juanchacin, can I ask where you got that list of nvidia profiles?

Actually I think I know. Did you just export them with the tool from the newest driver?

The newest Driver don’t have support for AC Brotherhood, so I manage to look for a few games profiles and added myself to the .txt, even the Crysis 2 Final and demo, I keep looking and looking and finally find others profiles that were a little different from the export profile result, so I use “WinMerge” to build a complete .txt with all the profiles (Always respecting that the profiles are officials from NVIDIA and keeping the newest parameters), the only SLI profile that I still don’t find is for “Test Drive Unlimit 2”

“Have a nice day”

Wow, there was a lot more involved than I thought.
