OFFICIAL Elder Scrolls V : Skyrim (Discussion)

Yeah there is a console command to bring up the Race menu but changing it can screw with some things like abilities and bonuses though that has to be just if you change your race itself. Google for it you will find.

Did you know there's Life after Death in Skyrim?

I took this picture right after I got off my invisible horse.

I also didn't realize you could go with either person right at the beginning. I went with the guard first, then the other guy on my new character. However, I haven't even touched the main quest really; I've just been exploring and collecting books

edit: This would've been an awesome desktop if I remembered to turn off the UI

How to enable Crossfire for Skyrim:

N.B. This is to improve performance only for crossfire AMD.

I've been getting really crappy fps in the town-centres. Worst of all at Whiterun where it even dips to 20 fps (which is hideous!).

This fix increased my lowest ever fps in the game (i.e. Whiterun using the same save) to 33 fps. Which while not blowing-mindedly high, is still a good 13 fps improvement over minimum and for me makes the difference between a playable game and an unplayable one.

[btw I'm not expecting miracles because although I've got a 5970, I've got only 4GB RAM, an old E8400 and am gaming at 2560x1440 ]

Here's what to do:

-- Download Radeon Pro.
-- "Add new profile", by clicking the '+' button on top
-- Go C:\Program Files (x86)Steam\steamapps\common\skyrim) and select TESV.exe
-- Click on the "Launcher" tab on the right, and select the "Steam/Impulse" option.
-- Select the "Tweaks" tab and choose the "Bioshock" option for the "Force Crossfire X Profile"
-- Make sure you set the CF mode (MVPU Mode) to AFR (alternate frame rendering).
-- Right click on the Skyrim application to the left and click on "Apply Now"
-- Right click it again and select "Play"

I get the worst performance when I leave everything at default and not use Radeon Pro.

Doing the above steps increases my minimum fps by 13....

and.....

here comes the funny...

If I disable CF altogether (which is not possible for a dual gpu card unless you use some type of program like this one) I gain yet another 5 fps :wtf:

Yeah, I've disabled my XFire, and gotten a bit of improvement... Still waiting for ATI to get on the ball, and get me a better profile, or drivers, or both. Considering many people (myself included) were hoping for Eyefinity support quickly with Skyrim, I'm a good bit disappointed with ATI :(

If it's the part I think it is, it's not a bug;
You don't physically touch the crystal even though it says you can. If you talk to the mage in the room with you, he tells you what you need to do to focus the crystal.

To clarify what the dude said, iirc(you don't need this one, only if you're stuck);
You use fire and ice spells(the novice ones, flames and frostbite) to heat up/cool down the crystals, which changes how they reflect the light. Then you use the three switches on top of the large staircase to move around the crystal's on the ceiling so they reflect the light coming from the crystals in the middle. Then everything should happen on it's own.

nope.
I tried using flames and frost, I tried using fireball. no reaction at all. tried reloading, tried leaving and coming back later, still nada.

For anybody else who thinks it's a tad too difficult to spot ore veins, check out Glowing Ore Veins.

Could ATI be waiting for Bethesda to release the next patch (which is imminent) before releasing the CAP?

I hope this does not detract them from working on the patch:

BP, for the love of God, put the quad in.

No, I've been hearing all over the net that the game performs much better on higher-clocked duals than on quad's..

Edit: I'll wait till the next patch is out, hopefully within a couple of days... then we'll see ;)

Skyrim has sold 3.5 million copies globally in the first 48 hours. Bethesda shipped 7 million copies for launch and 50% sold in two days. As was posted above, they expect to make over $450 million at launch.

Looks like a good sign there will be an Elder Scrolls VI ;)

And unless I'm mistaken they're only counting the hard copies there, not including games bought off Steam, D2D, etc...

Considering the period between Elder Scrolls releases, hopefully perhaps we won't have to wait till 2016 for TES VI... :)

Runs awesome on High w/ 8xAA and 8xAF for me. 1680x1050 may have something to do with that

That is the way it reads, but I am not sure about that.

We probably will. Fewer, better games is a good strategy for them and it allows for a long period of hype build-up and anticipation.

Skyrim also set a Steam record with 280,000 people playing concurrently on launch day.

Pretty impressive all around, for an RPG.

I love this game... I can't wait for bugs to be patched... My only two complaints is that you can't change keys (or I can't figure out how) and two: you can't co op or multi play this game... I've always avoided magic type rpg games and this is my first one but man it's good... i put 30+ hours on this game in 2.5 days lol

and then...

you can't change keys (or I can't figure out how)

I only needed to change one key so far but I managed. The 'shout' key was defaulted to 'z' which was really awkward to press under the wsad keys, so I changed it to 'c'.

My main complaints till now are:

- no crossfire utilization
- textures too low even though I put them on high both on catalyst and in-game... and
- my avatar... I wouldn't have minded piercings, but two arrows going through my brain are a tad too extreme :)

Edit: Nvrmind found it.

Battlemage and Jack of all Trades...Smithing, Enchanting, Archery and Close Combat...and most highly skilled... pickpocketing! :D some of everything!

It is a console port, but it has mod support and plays better than Oblivion, FO3, or F:NV. Fine tuned and any of those games doesn't fit together, single core processor support, issues with performance with great videocards, and general buggyness. Yes they have had years for mods, but even then, those still don't feel fined tuned to me, piling on mods to fix them helps, but after a bit they get crash happy.

In the end it's a console port vs a decade old engine. And the console port is running on a more capable engine, Gamebryo is just too old.

well this new engine is still gamebryo i tested it earlier same commands same settings same tweaks as all the older titles, this is gamebryo all over again nothings really changed, except for better multi core support, and a few tweaks this game engine is essentially just as old as the CoD game engine lolz.

*spoiled to keep the pics down*

Eh, potentially, but honestly, I'd rather see some forward momentum at an angle towards the right direction, than waiting longer.... And from the notes I've seen about the patch, yeah it's incoming, altho I wouldn't call it "imminent", and there's absolutely NO statement about what it will address, and iirc, a pretty direct statement of "No comment" about what's in it.

If anyone wants some codes to make it hardcore look in spoiler. It's not really a spoiler but I put it in there to take less space.:D

If you want to lower your players rates of regeneration for Health, Magicka and Stamina follow these codes.

Health normal rate= 0.70 to lower use " player.modav healrate -0.7 " That's for no regeneration

Stamina normal rate= 5.00 to lower use " player.modav staminarate -5.00 " Thats for no regeneration

Magicka normal rate= 3.00 to lower use " player.modav magickarate -3.00 " That's for no regeneration

For example if you want some regeneration but slowly then use " player.modav magickarate -2.00 " Now your regen is 1.00. You can use anywhere from -3.00 to x.xx So if you want you can make your regeneration higher so type in " player.modav magickarate 3.00 " your rate of regeneration is now 6 because you start at 3.

If at some point you want to bring your regeneration back to normal than type in " player.getav magickarate " this will tell you what it is currently set at. So lets say you where at that 6 regen to get back to 3 just type in " player.modav magickarate -3.00 " :rockout:

If you have any questions just ask.

Yeah as far as this game specifically and that may very well be true however I am thinking you may benefit still just due to two more cores to deal with all that bandwidth i.e. you are running a crossfire card and high res. Unless it's a big pain it's really worth a shot I think (and I'm curious too).

This mod should fix the key issue and is worth installing anyway unless you pretty much use all default.

Hear you re. the textures. Some definitely worse than others. Snowy rocks are particularly bad at least for me. Looking forward to a rock and terrain retexture but they are gonna have to take ore deposits and such into account.

Wow dude I have researched and tweaked my shadows and I don't see anything that smooth and nice yet. A 4870X2 as well. can you PM me your SkyrimPrefs.ini?

If this the case they better design the game for the PC platform, then they can port it over to consoles if they choose. This was a big mistake with Elder Scrolls V, creating it for the XBOX 360 and then porting it over to the PC. Not good at all.

No, this game was made for the PC first. It was called Oblivion. The only thing console port about it is the UI.
