Until they replace LCD with better tech such as color filtered OLED or PLED, or at least make a generic or competing version of Light Boost for AMD, I can't see getting too excited about this. Then you have the fact that a lot of us prefer to economize and use our TVs for a gaming display, and you have to wonder if any 4k TVs will be affordable within the next 5-10 yrs, not to mention that it was hard enough just to get to 1080i broadcast level in the US.
Everyone has their own idea of what display nirvana is, but some of the setups I've seen, given the cost and visual tradeoffs, have me wondering what's the sense of it. For instance there's a guy on another forum whom spent at least $8000 USD on a setup that uses 3 Dell U3011 monitors placed vertically @ 5160x2560. When most responded that they couldn't stand the look of the huge, tall vertical bezels, he took offense to it.
Where did the rest of the expense go? Well, it has 4 EVGA Classified 4GB 680s in Quad SLI, and 8 OCZ Vertex 128GB SSDs in RAID 0. To each their own, but to me it looks like you're playing from behind prison bars. Personally I have a hard time adjusting to 16:9 still. On my 22" CRT I could use 4:3, 16:10, and often times 16:9. A 16:9 AR often makes the vertical view feel cramped. I can see why a lot of people were sad to see 16:10 go.
