I'm in the netherlands, and a lot of the coolers i've seen being suggested aren't available here. I'm on a budget, which i why i put the limit on €50. I want to overclock an 8350 on AM3+, and the cooler nees to be able to be oriented so it moves air to the back of the case. Currently in mind: HR-02 Macho PCGH, Scythe Ashura, Alpenföhn Brocken 2, Noctua NH-U9B SE2, or a CM Seidon 120V. I would appreciate any further input, maybe some coolers I've missed? Thanks in advance ^^

Edit: Added Scythe Ashura.

Edit2: Added Alpenföhn Brocken 2

Edit3: Added Noctua NH-U9B SE2

Edit4: Removed AF A30, CM H212E, ETS-T40-BK. Added CM Seidon 120V, and HR-02 Macho PCGH.

I have a Cooler Master Hyper 212+ on my FX8350 right now. I don't have it overclocked at all, but it's running at generally 37-40C at full load and is nearly silent. The Xigmatek Gaia is another solid choice :toast:

Best coolers in your neck of the wood would be Raijintek Themis EVO.

I reviewed the regular Themis awhile back and its performance for the price is far better than the Hyper 212. The EVO just makes sure to provide a second matching fan with all the needed hardware.

If you cant find one then the Hyper 212 EVO with a second fan is a solid option just remember the 8350 does get hot if your expecting a high overclock you will be dissapointed.

Another option is the Coolink Corator DS the regular non LGA2011 version should be around 40 euro

If you can increase your price range a bit you can get the Deepcool Gamer Storm Assassin / Alpenföhn K2 which tends to do fairly well in comparison to the much more expensive Noctua NH-D14 / be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 2 / Phanteks PH-TC14PE

I can't find these anywhere. Only the regular themis but they don't sell it anywhere here. I did see something that caught my eyes, a Scythe Mugen 4 PCGH Edition. Does anyone know if this is any good and can be mounted with front-to-back airflow on AM3+? I can find sellers but not that info.

Benchmark Scores bench...mark? i do leave mark on bench sometime, to remember which one is the most comfortable. :o
just go with the macho ... nothing can go wrong with the HR-02 ... multi socket, 13" screwdriver bundled, high performance and low price

45€ isnt high for a cooler like that ... hell i went from a Freezer Extreme Rev2.0 to the HR-02 i paid 39,90chf the 1st one and 63chf the 2nd one ... no comparison) unless you dont overclock, then go for a 212 or a 412S where i live the 412S is just 5chf more than a Arctic Freezer A30 (and im swiss ... but i dont recommend a swiss brand :D dahahaha shame on me ...

oh wait you said 16cm max? if i recall correctly ... then let down the macho (well it might eventualy pass ... ) and also the HR-02 should be easy to find no matter where you live (many french hardware mag recommend it, too bad i live in switzerland ... i dont use my HR-02 actually )

just took a look at your HR-02... aaaaaand it sticks out above the motherboard. Where i have exactly NO space. :/

Damn this case is making things difficult.

Does caseking.de ship to your area? if so they have the

Alpenfohn K2 for 60 euro
http://www.caseking.de/shop/catalog/Alpenfoehn-K2-CPU-Kuehler-120-140mm::17463.html

if that one fits then the macho will :D and will surely be less than 60€
oh another good one : Alpenfohn Brocken 2 nice price and good performances(i live in the alps and the Fohn is a typical wind where i am ... too bad its a german brand :D)

just took a look at your HR-02... aaaaaand it sticks out above the motherboard. Where i have exactly NO space. :/

oh boy ... on my mATX build the macho pass perfectly :D and in my other build too ... no luck then

For cheap air-cooling, I like the Xigmatek SD1283, but I'm not sure if it is available in your area or not.

Well I only suggest the K2 / Assassin do to the 8350 they can get hot especially if its a higher leakage chip its going to put out some heat. And well its a 60 euro cooler that competes with the 80-90 euro competition with relative ease.

Then again I see his motherboard the top slot is the primary PCIe x16 so it may be a close fit. I do not have an AMD system here to verify clearance sadly.

and the macho is a 45€ cooler that compete with 70€+ but sadly it will not fit in his case ... now i see why

hence the Brocken 2 recommendation, pretty efficient (on par with the macho) and a bit more compact

and for the 1st slot i had a Rampage III Extreme with 1st x16 near the socket the macho wasnt hanging near the edge or the slot at all but again ... intel 1366 so i dont know the clearance of a normal AM3+

exemple

and the macho is a 45€ cooler that compete with 70€+ but sadly it will not fit in his case ... (still i don't see how it couldn't fit since it doesn't get over the edge of a normal ATX or a µATX (if put in the "normal" direction aka : fan toward the ram :D

hence the Brocken 2 recommendation, pretty efficient (on par with the macho) and a bit more compact

Keep in mind i'm on AM3+, and I overestimated the Antec One case.

(I'd buy a Corsair Carbide 300R if i had more cash..)

i keep in mind you have a AM3+ .... all my previous sys where AM3 and AM3+ and i still have a AM2+ in µATX :D

still its pretty annoying when a case don't have enough clearance above the top of the mobo ... love my 90$ HAF XB or my Antec NSK3480 you should see it with the IFX in xD tight fit is tight

and i can close the door ... too

Damn that's close. After doing soem more research aout my mobo and everything i MIGHT be able to fit a K2. Question being if it can blow to the back of the case considering the cooler's width. (How's RAM clearance and all that? Currently I'm leaning towards the Scythe because of it's fit.)

Benchmark Scores bench...mark? i do leave mark on bench sometime, to remember which one is the most comfortable. :o
i don't know about the K2 but its pretty near the IFX, the Brocken 2 doesn't hinder the ram as a single tower + excentered base
the 2nd Ty-147 of that IFX hang right above the XMS2 i have in (lucky they are low profile) indeed the K2 should be like the IFX for the ram clearance the front fan would be right on top of it

Scyth Ashura is pretty neat also ...

Adding the Ashura to the list of WANT-coolers. Looked it up and it looks liek a goddamn perfect fit on AM3+.

Also, if the K2 hangs over the RAM it's out of the question, sorry :(

Edit: forgot to add i can't find any info on how the Brocken 2 can be oriented on AM3+.. that's my whole problem with AMD really :|

You realize almost ALL heatsinks over hang memory correct? it should not be an issue unless your memory is taller than Gskills Ripjaw Z etc sticks if their just plain ordinary ram its a non issue. Read the Gamer Storm review I posted above the K2 and Assassin are the same cooler just different colors.

They are low-profile kingstons but i'm going to replace them sometime in the future and who knows what i'll get, so i want plenty of RAM-clearance just in case xP

the brocken 2 doesn't the macho doesn't any single tower also, Scythe Ashura doesn't ofc they can touch the 1 slot but they pass without difficulty

Brocken 2 not on a AM3+ but the ram clearance should be near that (damn i had a sheet with all the ram clearance from socket to 1st slot)

You realize there is no point in memory with tall heatspreaders right?

unless your using 2400 mhz or more its worthless and the performance gain is also non existant unless you benchmark considering your CPU choice its rather moot.

A move to 1866 would be preferable but low profile sticks exist up to 2133 and sometimes higher.

And again I do not have an AMD system to test on what I can tell you is many typical tower coolers do block memory slots on Intel systems.

Looks good, but can it be oriented like on your Intel on an AM3+? That is one nice fit

basically the Brocken 2 is a Prolimatech Megahalems with a particular fins setup (3 per 3) and unless the cpu isnt centered the clearance should be same
