Its the fookN mining craze that is part of the problem with availability... ![Wink ;) ;)](https://tpucdn.com/forums/data/assets/smilies/wink-v1.gif)

Yes the 780ti on its own defeats the 290 card with its limited 3 gb of memory,
But you crossfire 2 290 cards with 4 gig of memory that costs less than a single 780ti card it will have it for breakfast and be 60% to 70% faster maybe even more when mantel is up and running.

max mem used on both these 2560x1600 vids was 8150 in msi thats little over 4 gig per card.
This is why i passed on the 780 ti and the fact they cost me 600 for both and thats the same as a single custom 780ti.
So if you own a 290 feel good about yourself and laugh at those with 3gb![]()

Can you post up with and afterburner grab (or similar) showing that being used? I thought it was impossible for a Vram demand to actually exceed the video memory of your gfx card?

Finally got my card in, ordered on Black Friday. Glad I ordered that early, when I logged into the retailer product page for instructions to claim my BF4 key, I saw that the price has gone up $90 on the XFX model.
At first I didn't see what all the fuss was about regarding thew stock cooler, it was running nice and quiet during install. Then I cranked it up via Afterburner, and HOLY HELL was it loud. Definately getting a waterblock for this bad boy.
Been drinking all day so no benches or anything yet. Haven't even overclocked it yet.
EDIT Played some games and have some mad coil whine going on. Is this something that will go away with time, or do I need to think about getting an RMA?

Just change your voltage settings for the vcore that should fix it. It might be that XFX switched to cheaper coils than the reference and they might all whine or your PSU puts a load voltage that causes the resonance so even an RMA won't change it.
I finally put in my order for a pair of R9 290 Tri-X cards and they cost just under the price of a custom GTX 780 Ti because here in the CZ price inflation has been 0% since the LTC craze the only problem is that there are almost no cards in stock so I waited until the custom ones got listed. Once I get them I plan to add more caps to one of them because the stock VRM is capable of some serious current but the voltage ripple must be in the 20+mv area because the card only has 5 phases(less phases = more ripple) and 15nH inductors(less inductance = more ripple) with an average sized capacitor bank. So I'm guessing that OCing is limited by the amount of ripple these cards have and doubling the amount of caps could make major improvements in lowering ripple and increasing OCability.

No coil hiss from my 2x 290x. I would not think any AIB would replace a lower grade reference part from an entire PCB when all they do is degrade said capabilty from the flag ship to generate the lesser more affordable reference GPU in the same line of product.

Think I killed My card.
Plugged in my HUE light string.
End of string, with open pin holes, touched the back of video card and screen went blank.
Tried resetting, reseating, nothing is Working so far. To be expected really. Things been going this way lately.
Anyone have a miracle solution?
know I'm really stupid, but thing is I would have got a back plate When I got water block, but not in stock.
