Tell me one thing folks, should I bite the bullet and get a custom R9 290 like Gigabyte's Windforce/Sapphire's Tri-X OC/ASUS Direct CU OC? Which one is the best? Or should I just get a reference R9 290 with an Accelero Xtreme 3? Temps are my main concern here, with noise coming in at a close second. Can you guys post some temps and performance numbers with BF4?

I just got a Seasonic 760w PSU so I could test it just for this and I have to send out the rebate postmarked by 2/4/13. What do you guys think?

I wish I could order from there. Does Dabs ship internationally to the US?

Also, could you post some performance numbers? Mainly BF4 if you have/play it. Posting core and VRM temps would also be helpful also. Thanks.

edit: Nevermind, the pound conversion to US dollars is even more expensive, it comes out to ~$650

I have the Windforce card and all I can say is that I'm very pleased at 100% fan speed it can keep the core under 90C° even with 200mv overvoltage. The gigabyte cards also use 1500Mhz Elpida ICs instead of 1250Mhz so the memory clocks higher.

Nice videos, but I was looking more for some temp numbers.

1) On default settings/clocks, what is the average/max temperatures on the core and VRM you get after a BF4 session?
2) Does the card throttle down?
3) Can you overclock it and if so, how far?

The Mac said:
the reference cooler does not throttle if you set up a custom fan curve. It MAY throttle on auto settings, depending on the airflow in your case.

I have my 290 pro up to 1100 with zero throttling with the reference cooler.

I have a powercolor 290 oc 4gb (975/1250)@1040/1350 with (now)the stock cooler
but going liquid cooling next week,anyway I run oc'd always at ~65C with 0 throttling
with a custom curve .It's a blow dryer but that's what the liquid cooler is for

Ive replaced the fans for 4 scythe fans on them rads now my max temps @ 1150 gpu core clock is 55 c max temps using furmark half hour.

But you may want to wait for your warranty to run out before you do this.
But my warranty was gone the day I got my cards lol

Them 2 cards above will easly hit 1300/1400 on core if you fit water to them due to there power vrm being much better than the stock.

My temps seem a bit too high IMO, especially on the VRM. This is after an hour of playing some BF4 with ALL maxed out settings at 1080p/120hz (55-90FPS). Weird thing is that I can't manually adjust the fan speed on this thing using the CCC override. Changing the fan speed from 20|% to 100% did not yield any noise increase in my case. Anyone have this problem?

How about trying Afterburner to OC or for fan control? I think Guru3D doesn't bother with CCC.

CCC overdrive should be avoided like the plague. Use sapphire Trixx it has more options than AB.

Hi all. Had my Gigabyte R9 290X WindForce OC for about a week now and it kicks some ass. I get 13853 in 3DMark 11 with no overclock on the card except Gigabytes factory OC. Have not had any games yet that trouble it. Runs cool at 70c and very quiet with the performance bios enabled (fans get to about 53%) Im chuffed I grabbed one while I did as the price went up the following day or 2 so yeah overall I am very impressed

Have you noticed a drop in DirectX performance since 14.1 driver? I have, a tad in BF4 and by a fair amount in Ugine Valley. I unplugged one gpu (underwater so just left it hanging) and retested to see if it was just xfire suffering but it is not, single card performance is down too. It seems to be throttling that is the problem. I have rolled back to catalyst 13.12 and scores are back to normal.
(Edit) There has been a change to the way you unlock more than +100mv in AfterBurner. Inbox me if you want to know more.

I haven't benched yet, but I will later on tonight.

However, I tested BF4 before and after 14.1 last night, and it ran well on both; 14.1 gave good performance.

Yup, Valley is performing worse for me than it did when I had only one card, I went back to rel. 13.25 after troubleshooting for most of my Sunday to no avail.
