Welcome to TPU!

I know originally this system cost over $5000 but IMO it is now only worth between $500-600.

I wouldn't even give it that much value. $200 tops. It may have been the top shit in it's day, but now..........

CPU is fetching about $130 on eBay. Memory may be worth $50 if it's 2x2GB sticks. OS is XP? Hard drives may get you $20 each.

Dunno about the MB, case or PSU.

I say $250 retail. With a decent graphics card, and updated OS, could be a good rig for gaming.

Didn't realize the 6850 was a quad, was thinking it was a dual core, yeah, $250 is possible

Thanks guys for your help, its sad to know just the same how little this thing is worth,by the way it as 2 video cards(crossfire). I use it to edit video, but was wanting something better, something with good processor, and an all around good machine to edit HD video. This thing seems to work hard with HD footage. I was going to consider switching to a mac for editing, not really sure what to do or what to purchase, I really can't afford some 1000'ssss of dollars. Any suggestions?

he also has 3 raptors in it if it is the stock harddrives , at least I believe the Blackbird used raptors and they are 150GB which I estimated worth of $180 alone for the 3 drives.

How much are you looking to spend on a new system?

Don't get a MAC. MACs are made from the exact same hardware as a Windows based PC(except for the motherboard having a certain BIOs chip the MAC OS needs to run). You can build a custom Windows PC for ALOT less than you can buy a comparable MAC for.

I agree if you are buying a new system I would build a windows unit as they are better cost to performance. $1800 and you will have a awesome DIY system!

Thanks for your help BarbaricSoul, but I really have no clue what to say other than whatever it takes to make my editing more enjoyable without breaking my bank account. How good of a machine can I get for lets say..............1200.00?

I would part it out and use the case. :toast:
and put what inside of it? different mother board?,different processor? or simple different everything?

I'd argue that an upgrade to that system wouldn't be too shabby. New OS, more memory and upgrade video card.

My second/third systems are Core 2 Duos (E6600 and E8600), and they don't suck!

Wonder if the case has a bunch of proprietary connectors, etc. (like Dell)

You could do really well with that budget! Make sure you have a raid system in it too as the bandwidth increase on the harddrives will help a lot. I would also go with an i7 X79 and reuse case and harddrives if they are in good shape and maybe I say maybe the PSU too.

Prob get best price from some one who is interested in the case.... hardware wise....part it out. Does it still have original gfx cards?

...... you know... minus the stand and turned on its side... it looks like a bulk raven case.....the new z01 or something.

if your in the US, with $1200, you can build a modern very high end system similar to my 2600k system (minus the $750 video card).

IS your tower a full tower or a mid, I couldn't tell?

Does the software you use for Video use AMD or NVidia GPU processing power?

NVidia GPU processing power I do believe. Is there a way I can find out for sure?
What's the name of the software and version? Open the software and go to Help and about for the version of the software.

Yes, I would upgrade CPU, Motherboard, Ram, Video Cards. If it is using Crossfire now then it's very likely the power supply doesn't need to be upgrade at this point. I never said it would be a simple task, but I would make it happen. But if it's the pc below then I don't see you having any problems doing it.

Hi if your talking about video cards than yes it as 2 cross fire video cards in it

not sure if your into modding...but thats a cool retro case. I would definitely just up grade the internals. sell old parts to add to budget. Google or go to hp's web site to learn your exact specs.
