R9 290-290X owners thread

what card do you have and what driver are you using?

MSI R9 290 4G Gaming. I'm using the latest 14.3 Beta. I was playing the game itself earlier and it was crashing on its own. I lowered the clocks down, I've got it at 990/1250 right now and it was running without issue. F@H seems to run without issue, though I do get lock ups from time to time, it's hard to tell if it's the card OC or CPU OC. Going to let it run tonight with the GPU at those lower clocks.

Also I've had a problem tha't been annoying me lately. When I run GPU-z monitoring in on my seconds screen so I can watch temps and clocks I get frame rate drops at the smae rates as the sensor refresh rate in GPU-z. On the old version I had no such issues so any ideas on how I could fix this?
Its a gpu-z issue that is laggy as hell.
Just grabbing it and moving it around the screen causes it to stutter.

Just cleaned up and applied PK-3 to my 290. Average temps seem to be down a 3-5C. Better than nothing. Also, I'm curious, but I don't have VRM temps in GPU-Z. I thought I'd seen that MSI 290 Gaming's other people had displayed VRM temps.

Yeah i noticed ASUS don't don't on all their 290's too. XFX has VRM temps on their and a lot of other stuff. I will not even buy a card unless it has them..

I just wish W1z would make GPU-Z adjustable so you could see all the sensors.

You can scale the sensor window in the new version of GPU-z

YAY finally, been waiting for that update and just gave it waiting by v7.4 lol.

wow, impressive result

Way to make me feel like an idiot, haha.

What are everybody's average VRM temps? Under furmark VRM1 gets up to 102C~ while VRM2 stays at 62C~ and never goes up.

I've never seen any of my VRMS above 80C

OMG why you running that piece over the top software for ?..
if you can put up with 60fps just use vsync and you should see much better temps.

TPU uses it during GPU reviews. Was curious to see how it worked. I've never seen VRMs go over 70C while playing games.

Hi, guys. Got a question. Does Crysis 1 so CPU bound these days? In large open areas i got FPS drops to 45-50 and GPU load only 50-70 % when not overclocked. Full system specs in my profile

Don't make it a recommended program to use. I be surprised if W1z would actually recommend using it, If you want a better test program use 3Dmark and\or OCCT.

Yeah, I didn't run it long, nothing came out of it that I'm worried about. As long as my OC doesn't cause too much heat while playing a game, that's all that matters.

Hello I recently bought an MSI r9 290 Gaming. My idle temps are 41-43c and load temps reach 93c(after 10mins of furmark 1080p). I live in the Philippines so ambient temps are around 29-32c.. I have 7 case fans, 4 intake, 3 exhaust. Are my temps ok? Should I be worried? please advise.

No because no game will ever stress the GPU as much as furmark. Its a terrible software to use as a baseline

Yeah, my temps get crazy in Furmark, but never as high while actually playing a game or even running F@H

Planetside 2 now properly supports Crossfire X I'm getting 80 to 90% usage instead of 55% usage.
GPU-z no longer causes stutter but I have no idea why. Also the windforce cooler is really awesome it can keep my R9 290X at sub 80C° core while using 35-45C° air from the back of the R9 290.
Since the CFX update to PS2 I've been getting artifacts at 1100/1500 so I upped clocks to 1103/1500 which fixed all the artifacts. The reason for this seems to be that all cards have a 1.xx ratio between their core clock and memory clock that gives maximum stability. My ratio for both cards is 1.36 so 1500mhz/1103mhz = 1.3599. The closer to your ratio you get the higher your clocks can be so it is a good idea to spend an hour or 2 looking for it by setting a barely stable overclock(it starts artifact when the core hits 80C°) and pushing core clocks up and down by a few mhz until it stabilizes. Also memory clocks scale of core voltage so if you want more memory speed just increase the core voltage.

Hmm, I don't get artifacts in anything except Firefox. Everything else will just crash/blue screen if I go too high.
