Anyone else experiencing strange lag when playing a 1080p video on youtube in chrome?

oh i forgot this was the 9X0 clubhouse :p Mines still out there in the wild.

Wasn't this a known issue with flash or something? I remember having this issue a few years ago. Something with hardware acceleration, or I might just be going senile.

BTW, anybody uses the included companion software of the cards? Gigabyte has its OC Guru program, and Asus has its GPU Boost. Both are market leaders, but these programs look horrible. I use Afterburner.

I used afterburner for my brief time OC'ing, but my card operates at stock so I don't use a program.

I remember oc guru on my 280x, I still have nightmares. Thundermaster for my 780 isn't too bright either but it's really straightforward at least.

It was more recently an Nvidia issue as well a few months back. Running Chrome on an Nvidia GPU would cause this black flickering or black shadows when it came to flash player. Flash player has had its fair share of problems with hardware acceleration to say the least

That cake looks too dericious.
Also, I didn't have this issue on Kepler 780's (three of them), not sure why it's come back on Maxwell. Do I just disable hardware acceleration?

You could try, see if it helps. Unfortunately I can't remember what I did a few years ago when I was sporting a 4830. Used to be an amd/ati issue for a long time if I remember correctly

I did that and i think that had minimal effect on the black flickering. I just had to wait for Nvidia to release a new driver

Come on you bastard! Both my cards are chillin in this dudes van

Will be joining the club as soon as I fix my car and sell my 280X :) I never understood people who upgrade very often, but now I'm one of them.

its not about upgrading very often - its about getting value for money for your upgrades. If imy 680s had 4GBs of ram then i wouldnt of even thought about upgrading.

970 provided the best option for an upgrade - Lower power consumption, faster in general, 4GB buffer & extremely competitive price.

Part of me still says i shouldnt of bought 2 at the same time but sometimes you need to crawl in the dirt before you can enjoy what your money has bought you.

'Crossfire' you mean. Also going 280X crossfire on a 550w PSU isnt recommended. You will need at least a 750w PSU

Nope...

If you think about it even a single GTX970 can pull upto 300w from mains. No way your 550w is gonna run 2 of these cards with the rest of your system. These cards are extremely power efficient, but they dont run on air. you could dial the power consumption right down in afterburner or downclock the cards, but then again what would be the point of SLi if youre just gonna castrate them and stop them from running at their full potential???

The cooling solution is realy unique
meh? nope.... it's like that since the 780, looks like the plain ref used since long (yep even the AMD blower one) but with more noble mats, but surely not unique.
as for my 9X0 i hum i'd say will not have them until my etailer stock them so wait and see

pfeh ... i will not change my 650w psu if i take a 970 SLI (specially with the Strix from asus and their 8pin bahahah no need for 4*6pin when you can use 2*8pin...)

IE: a CFX of 290 in my actual rig would ask a 850w as recommended (not minimum) so 970 ... meh

Not for any kind of OC no, stock would be OK.

I wouldnt even risk it for a mormon biscuit. Youre pushing it too close to the limits and its gonna have some serious wear on the caps & other gutsy shit inside your PSU.... A good PSU from a decent brand might be able to handle the pressure but still. I wouldnt do it so i dont expect anyone else to. Its always better to have some horsepower in reserve then leave it teetering on the edge of a precipice

To the guy that says nVidia cooling is not unique, well it is not NEW, but pretty unique in the sense of nice, cool, efficient, beautiful, high quality, robust, etc. You get it? I know same solution has been used since 690! The fan alone is nothing close to older fans used in similar coolings. It is heavy and with a metal core, like antivibration countershafts in engines!

POWER BILL:
My system, same from one day to the other, except the exchange of a 670 for a 980, went FROM 85 WATTS TO 51 WATTS WHILE IDLING POSTING HERE. That is amazing! ( I use a digital UPS with LCD information screen)

For a moment there i almost thought you were describing some posh kitchen silverware or appliance

Its just the basic reference design. It looks nice but theres nothing unique about it - they have used the same design for about a year now on older cards.

Ok it is a club, not a FAQ thread, so open to all kind of arguments, but I hope it does not go the BF4 club way... IMHO these forward/backward discussions won't help many people.
I know the idea of this stock blower is a year old, does it make it outphased or obsolete? My last stock card was a 470 and that was a mere plastic cheapo black box with a shitty sticker on top! THIS IS ONE OR TWO STEPS BETTER, so custom designs may be not as necessary /useful! The holes in the rear part where the connectors go are also major, maximized, so much more airflow compared to past little slits there...
OMG...
