Thanks as usual for the time invested in your testing man :respect:

I think there's going to be so much potential as DDR4 matures and the cpu cashe is nice to see how it speeds things up to vs the latter ddr3

Great review as always...I will finally start to enjoy my pc once i see at least one more @cadaveca review lol. I think I'm settling for 4.5 ghz w/ ram @ 2750mhz as a manual overclock...but as for my auto I will go with the 4.6ghz mem 2133(i think). I had a pair of these but returned em' due to aesthetics.

All in all I know it will take time but I am looking forward to your reviews, the spin you put on them is very refreshing. Reminds me of Oklahoma Wolf over @ Jonnyguru

I also saw that nearly none bother to increase cache speed to help the CPU feed the memory properly, so I've included numbers here which show the maximum performance I could attain with a reasonable voltage any user might want to run

Well there you go world ! THIS is why TPU is THE best for reviews. When the reviewer's go the extra time effort to truly find how a product can function.

These seem to be the low voltage Samsung babies from bygone days,[for which i'm STILL running 24/7] :respect:!

BTW Dave another awesome review :toast:

I think this @cadaveca reviewer should get a raise in pay, like really! and Im talking to you @W1zzard

I think his board, memory and other reviews here is better then anywhere else, and at the very least good enough for a raise, o_O

Yeah, I know this now, but it wasn't apparent to me when this review was actually written (note the date of the first post).

I have a 32 GB set from Crucial for review, but a recent hardware death means I'm going to have to test all over again. When I got the set from Crucial, I realized how noobish that comment really was, but at the same time, didn't mind saying that I didn't know any better. :p

LuLz. That's for the vote of confidence. That really means a lot to me.

Oh, man, I try to tweak EVERY TIMING. But I wrote this review some time ago, and have learned much since. I also did not tweak voltage a lot, since I didn't have a lot of info about what these ICs can handle. Apparently, it's quite a bit, so in a future memory review you can expect to see maxed out performance including clock and timings tweaks. And if I kill the kit trying, oh well. ROFL.

Even though bandwidth numbers are impressive, performance in real world is just not there. I'm a bit disappointed in general with X99/DDR4. In most real world applications a 4790K is faster than an expensive 6 core CPU., even clock for clock.

I'm kinda surprised to see my 4790K gets 1000 points more (1500 points more at jedec 2133 settings) in 3D mark and that is 4 core CPU/DDR3 vs 6core CPU/DDR4. Many of the other tests too my 4790K is faster. ...and thats even with an extra 2 cores, if you disabled 2 cores to match the difference would be greater. The only thing a DDR4 is faster at is memory benchmarks and bandwidth, and latency is worse too.

Am I asking too much to expect a 6 core X99 system with 3000Mhz memory to perform better than a 4 core Z97 with 1866Mhz memory??

I didn't find this to be the case. For me, I found the performance on-par, if not a bit faster in 3D. I've only played with a few vga configs, though, and all with NVidia cards (1x GTX780 and 1-3x GTX780Ti).

If you could explain the comment a bit more, maybe there's something I missed?

All Anandtech benchmarks point to the 5820k being on par or better than the 4970k, and the 5820k is actually cheaper than the 4970k right now at microcenter Vs amazon prices($7 WOO). You just get a "stock" cooler with the 4970k.

Thanks so much for your review Dave, and for showing some real world gains in performance from using high end memory, as opposed to just synthetic benchmarks, proving the real value on investing on these kits. Your excellent review will help me OC my proc and I might actually take your word and ask for your help maxing up my RAM performance ;) :p

I have this exact same kit and processor, I found this kit for $389 at Newegg, and it quickly sold out after I ordered it, at the moment, I don't think any other memory manufacturers offer so much performance for DDR4 kits at this price, unfortunately, this exact same kit is just back in stock at Newegg for $499, over a $100 markup to the MSRP, somewhat destroying the value/performance ratio G.Skill achieved with their excellent DDR4 kits, hopefully, like what happened with the 290X last year selling for $799 or more, the bubble will burst soon and prices will go back to the more reasonable MSRP or even lower, otherwise, the adoption of the X99 platform will be marred by etailers with very low standards that want to fool people and make a quick buck.

At $389 these RAM kits are the best deal you'll find when shopping for DDR4 RAM, so wait for the prices to go back to normal before you pay more than you should for a decent performing quad channel kit.

I honestly have no idea why you wouldn't include DDR3 for reference and comparison since its going to and is supposed to be a faster spec.

your benchmarks and product reviews are really lacking guys. especially lately. you have neglected to include the DDr here for reference.

and with the 285, and 970 benchmarks you omitted the products they were replacing as well. and didnt put the 280 for reference in the 285 review. and the same went for the 970 Nvidia review. you didnt put the 285 or the 290 in either!
