This is stupid. Youre speaking as if the 970s performance went from 220% down to 10% - There is NOTHING wrong with recommending 970s, they still perform amazingly well and while there are 'technical' issues that were created by design and missold to the public as something that its not, the 970 still holds its own against the competition.

This issue here is situational at best - even though all the 970s have the same problem by design, It depends if we will push the card enough memory wise by running games that load up a tonne of texture packs and stuff.

I have had NO problems with my 970s so far apart from fps tanking a bit during a zerg in GW2 but thats when there are around 30 players spamming their AoE spells and shit is flying everywhere across the screen - I dont think my V-Ram was maxed out but i will check again later - All settings set to ultra of course.

I have no problem recommending a 970 but i will make it clear about what has come to light about it, Nvidia's shenanigans and leave the client or whoever to make the decision themselves.

the main advantages of a 970 is that it runs cooler than a 290X, is uber more power efficient than a 290X and performs faster in most scenarios than the 290X apart from when youre in a situation where you need to use more than 3.5GB V-Ram
The 290X still bests or matches at 1440p+ which is where cards like this are marketed for use not at the 1080p spectrum which just about any $200 dollar card can handle with all the eye candy turned up (except when DSR is put into play, though to be fair that might cause issues to arise).

that was actually with mantle but straws are just being grasped here

I don't think hes making a mistake, if the cards serve his purpose then he should keep them and be happy. No one should be forced to return a product they are happy with. However the people who are having problems are entitled to a refund and NVidia should have to do something about it since it is their fault for this problem/misrepresentation.

People are entitled to a refund if they want it and NVidia is the people who should have to fix this issue not the retailers whether or not this was an intentional part of the design. That is where the issue sits...

Like @Easy Rhino said in this thread or another one on the problem, just because you Google something for 5 minutes doesn't mean you know what is going on entirely.

Again, the 970s perform the same as they always have. Its not like now knowing about the vram configuration magically dropped the performance of the card.

My MSI 970 is neck and neck with the 290X:

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/MSI/GTX_970_Gaming/27.html

For me the 970 is the perfect fit right now, I game @ 1440P too. Throw in the superb efficiency it offers and it's kinda hard to be too bummed with it on a performance level frankly.

Most what ive said is wrong??

OK smart ass - Lets see the fruit of your so called research apart from the fact that you think that me as well as all the other 970 owners should send our cards back for a refund - Because thats not called research, its called an opinion. Lets see your performance graphs and charts about the 970 vs 290X.

If you think your level of understanding/knowledge is better than mine then throw it up so we all can see and prove all these other 'naysayers' Cuz im sure you have nothing to hide.

Have you been in contact with Nvidia's driver team? Have they given you a beta driver to test? What are your findings?

------

remember the days when you could softmod a ATi 9700 into a 9800 for extra performance? that worked out well!

the only way this can go pear shaped is if Nvidia's driver team is as incompetent as AMDs have been these last few years.

and your point? I'm not a noob that is a fresh pc gamer. I research shit all the time and understanding a gpu is nothing like understanding how the large hadron collider works. I'm a man thats works on a railroad at a plastics plant. I have to read manuals on huge ass vacuum systems and fix them.
5 minutes doesnt do shit or satisfy a man with a urge to learn.

read tom's hardware articles for a year and then go back and refresh what you have read...
there is no specific articles that could help us out here but I have seen a few mods here talking about vram similar to how they talk about it in toms articles..
gpu's need access to all the resources they have spontaneously and in parallel. really AMD said it plain and simple.. 4gb means 4gb

You make me sad talking about my cards with their measly 3gb of memory. Now I'll have to buy 2 kingpin 980's just to piss people off. Then I'm going to smoke some 20 quid notes, buy a unicorn and sponsor an African child in a burger eating contest.

Seriously, I might buy a kingpin...

Lol Tomshardware. They have a bit of a reputation for bad reviews/information. I dont think many people here trust Tomshardware.

Is that the full extent of your research? I was honestly expecting more than just fobbing off by telling me to read hardware articles for a year. You call me out yet bring nothing to the table to discredit what i have said.

Where are the links to these articles? Also Did you know that GPU architectures change every once in a while and some of them even handle V-Ram differently from the previous generations. Which makes any article that you have read in the last year probably a little less relevant.

I never claimed to be an expert, but I do know that i dont have any current issues with my 970s.

Keep on trolling :)

That reminds me of a while back when cadaveca said he had 3 GTX 780Ti just to piss people off that thought it was overkill and he didn't even game that much. :D

Those 980 Kingpins are nice but $750 each. Ouch.

What I don't get is the number of arguments which say that in a couple years the 970 won't be able to handle games with it's 3.5GB VRAM. Yet, most people only keep their cards 2 years, upgrading every other generation. Yes, I know there are ultra-enthusiasts that buy top of the line every year, but then this would affect them even less. So, by then, over half the users will likely have moved on either to the next generation or the one after, when they will get cards made by either green or red team that will suit their needs.

So, if that is the basis for arguments against the 970, it's really not valid.

"Entire internet" is a veiled sarcasm, which is apparently lost on many. It's a commentary on how posters on tech forums assume they are the majority of consumer base, and are oblivious to the fact, that for every one of them, there are 10 000 other people that do not visit, read or care for such forums and their opinions. And before you say "we are not", do realize that the motivation behind many a forum post is ego boosting. The idea that any number of internet forum posters can meaningfully impact a multi-million company is either oblivious or arrogant. If this hate campaign has a purpose, it is to make people who bought the card feel bad. And of course, for the AMD zealots to have more weaponry and munitions for their holy fanboy war.

The "false advertisement" angle I leave to people knowledgeable of legal matters, because I for one do not pay attention to any form of advertisement, and as such I find it hard to feel outraged about it. For me, If the box said 1MB of ram with 1 ROP and 1 TMU and 1 Core, and provided the same performance, I would have bought it as well. Even so, I think there might be a lawsuit in the works, anyway? So yes, I will just continue not to pay attention to anything Intel, Nvidia, AMD, Apple etc. says.

Oh, yes, and I, personally, am here for the giggles. It's so entertaining to see how dismissive and denying people get when someone states they did things differently and are somehow satisfied with the results. Preposterous.

These thoughtful bits of me being an nVidia apologist, funny as they are, are far too predictable and I consider myself above such silly commentaries. Because ultimately, in every single pro-or-contra post, the motivation is to defend one's own decision, and validate the thought process leading to it. To do otherwise, would be to admit failure, and barely anyone is capable of doing that.

Hey, I have 2 posts now, does that make my twice as relevant now and twice as enlightening? Boy, is this post going to get censored to hell.

Nvidia lied period. Certain sarcasm gets you out the door too.

what are you 14 years old? most choices of your words would say so. toms hardware has a lot of experts and they do extensive research with hardware that most tech sites cant even afford to buy.
maxwell didnt change shit.. if anything they where trying to increase profit margins and the driver was designed to hide the flaw.
o and just to refresh your young 14 year old mind.. you trolled on me and called my point of view stupid.

what are you 14 years old? most choices of your words would say so. toms hardware has a lot of experts and they do extensive research with hardware that most tech sites cant even afford to buy.
maxwell didnt change shit.. if anything they where trying to increase profit margins and the driver was designed to hide the flaw.
o and just to refresh your young 14 year old mind.. you trolled on me and called my point of view stupid.

Yeah, and you called me out by saying most of the stuff i said was wrong, and when i asked you to prove your 'research' the best thing you can do is reference tomshardware and you have yet to provide anything substantial

Way to make yourself look like an idiot more. I called your POV stupid because it is, Why should people send their cards back if its working perfectly for them? I allowed you to have your opinion and i rebutted it with my own, and since you didnt agree with my opinion you've resorted to calling me a kid?

You cant always have things your way, thats just not how life works.

There are so many forums out there just like TPU and the best you can do is reference Tomshardware for all your research.

I dont know who's the bigger idiot here - me for responding to your posts or you for thinking you actually might know something. Your mind is dangerous bro.

yup most of what you said was wrong and your a serious troll.
I didnt need to reference anything at all or be further insulted by a adult with a teenagers brain.. ya know why? because its a damn flaw and 4gb means 4gb.
you talk bad about toms hardware but I dont most tech sites doing the research they do and I have got to talk several representatives and engineers from intel, arm, amd, wd, msi.. probably more and didnt even know it.

And here again you call me out as being wrong but provide no anecdotal evidence to prove your findings :) - for the record, you didnt reference shit apart from throwing up the name of a website which is known to be questionable when it comes to reliable information and reviews. Who's insulting you? Im not insulting you! youre making yourself look like an idiot enough without me having to get involved.

Who's the one thats throwing their toys out of the pram because 4GB didnt turn out to be 4GB? Its not like Im trying to defend Nvidia or anything. They done goofed, but you my friend need to turn off the PC and go out for a bit because you are just so wound up about something so simple that im afraid for your health.

But do carry on with the personal attacks - Im sure other members here and the admins/mods who have known me for much longer, some which have even met me in person for drinks would love to see you make an arse of yourself. :toast:

good day to you sir :toast:

Back on topic. No throwing names around. It also seems as if the discussion is way past its expiration date for some of you. Move on, I won't ask again.
