OFFICIAL Elite: Dangerous

ooh those tut's are terrible lol, use the default key to do this but never tells you what key so you end up looking in the key config again again and again lol.

As for a controller i got a Thrustmaster HOTAS for $47, i been wanting a HOTAS for many years but being left handed never got one but for 47$ like why the hell not right. It's not perfect by any means but it's all so no $160+ either.

If\when i can i will invest in a CH setup as i have got very used to it a lot faster than i thought i would do. Why CH ?, well they maybe plastic on the outside but they are metal on the inside unlike every ? other brand. Was thinking of the the more expensive thrustmaster HOTAS ( $450$ ) but found that it's totally plastic inside.

I use a CH Fighter Stick and Logitech G13 gaming keypad on my main gaming rig. Works amazingly well.

I also use Mouse + KB on my laptop...also works pretty damn well. You might adjust the sensitivity in the control section. I prefer pitch and roll for my X and Y axis which iirc Elite defaults to. A and D for yaw is perfect in this game.

Practice is what many new pilots really need in this game. I haven't tried the tuts since beta so I have no idea how the current ones are.

The physics in this game is what many struggle to handle...again practice is what is really needed.

One big factor of control in this game is the lateral and vertical thrusters (horizontal and vertical strafing). Learning to use and mix those with my flying made everything from combat to landing much much easier.

Hope that helps! :toast:

Gotta love, doing a 180 and flying backwards shooting the shit out of some thing. Flight assist makes so many things possible just gotta be careful or you may go side ways in to a asteroid lol.

Still getting used to it hear but thanks for gamballed weapons allow me to get used to other things other than targeting.

If only i could afford some CH gear then afford to have it made left handed haha.

Hoping that 1.3 and PowerPlay offer the major changes that FD claims with benefits for all. Looking forward to trying the beta in a few days. I'm resisting on some of these CG's because I am trying to keep away from trading for a bit and keep on combat. Working to save up for a spec'd out Viper to play with, the Cobra's been great, and I plan on keeping my ships at this point so that's adding to the slowness of upgrading lol.
Like asrock said, the CGs are now combat based. I'm not sure what the percentages are now but top 40% was at 600k 12+ hours ago.
So I jumped on it and decided to grab Elite: Dangerous and I'm going through the tutorials only to find it really hard to control movement with a mouse and keyboard.

How is everyone else playing it? Are you using a joystick or a 360 controller? I'm just curious how everyone else is aiming where is seems like the slightest motion on the mouse will make the ship move way more than I want. Maybe I just need more practice or need to adjust sensitivities but I'm having a really hard time with the second fighting tutorial because aiming feels really hard.

Edit: Less mouse sensitivity and swapping A and D for rolls and switching X-axis on the mouse to yaw seemed to help a little bit. I may still want to get a wired 360 controller or something.
I did the same thing with roll to a and d and yaw on mouse. I use kb/m and am pretty good at combat. (If I may say so)

It's probably because I'm used to "up, down, left, and right" on my mouse controls. I couldn't get used to the roll. Fortunately I can control rolling better with keys, but it's no substitute for a game pad. I'm going to do a little bit of research to see what my options are. That X52 of @INSTG8R 's made me google it and it looks like a lovely setup. 130 USD seems to be a bit much but I could be convinced if the price was right.

Now only if my wife and daughter could stop bothering me so I could play for a bit without distraction. :)

Side note: I'm amazed at how smooth this runs on my 6870s despite their age.

Some might find this video a good watch, hope ya enjoy it as much as i did.

Believe it or not, I can't find a better controller for this game than the standard X360 wired... but that may just be a preference thing and the fact I'm a fatass who spends his gaming sessions in an armchair. :P

i cannot stand them even more so with this game, i have nightmare's if i use a XBox controller to much ( J/K ).

I've tried the game with the 360 controller and the xbox one controller and they can't compete with a proper stick and throttle. Just so much easier.

Too be honest when Is tarted playing I was 100% PC elitest and attempted it with KB/Mouse combo.

That was a huge mistake. i went out and bought a 360 controller (not a fan of xbox stuff but my logitech PS2 was having a hard time being mapped correctly.) now flying is way more intuitive and I enjoy it alot more.

I'd agree, but try using a stick and throttle in an armchair. ;)

Dunno whats so hard about doing that umm.

Anyways Powerplay beta was released today, with a bunch of welcomed changes.
Powerplay Beta Released

It actually plays pretty well with Mouse + KB imho. I didn't like the 360, but I'm also not a console gamer much anymore so the 360 and PS3 controllers don't work for me anymore. All My CH Fighter Stick and G13 combo has really been amazing for me.

I may borrow a friend's Throttle Pro USB, but I'm in no hurry to do so. I will say that the stick + gaming keyboard w/analogue thumbstick is an excellent combo for me. I know plenty of folks beyond this forum that prefer gamepads as well. I feel Frontier did a great job with their control schemes and configurations, for all that you can do and adjust I don't have to waste much time reconfiguring if something goes awry.

I'm debating getting into this Beta to see how it plays out, especially with the mission system and drones. :D

To me they gone beyond good when it comes to controllers in fact if some one has a issue they should post on their forum as it does seem like they care. Like come on i use a keyboard mouse joystick throttle and pedals which are connected to a steering wheel lol.

I wish i could get in to the beta o well, does sound like some cool changes are happening and might even check out mining with a Type 9 get those busy drones at work lol.

Armchair you say eh? Well that is easy, throttle on one arm and stick on the other

I pretty much exclusively use an xbox 360 controller for this game and I do very well with it. Just played the beta for an hour and it's pretty cool. The power grab and factions keeps things interesting.

I've found more than one convoy carrying alien artifacts. If anyone has a lot of powerful ships and a few buddies we could grab one.

Found a bubble in my game

To make up for that horrid, low-res picture, has some shiny ring system stuff. Taken while hunting with Asrock. Spoilers because large images.

Thought i would take a couple of pics before selling it. Great ship i will miss that plasma, patch i believe is bringing fuel modules so that will help this ship for sure.

So, I managed to get some good trade routes down and I managed to afford my first ship (no more loaner,) an Adder and I like it a lot over the starting ship. Having 16 tons of cargo space instead of 6 makes for much more profitable runs and I made back almost the entire cost of the ship after trading for an hour and a half this morning and having to earn back enough credits to do more advantageous trades. :)

So I tried getting a 360 controller (which also was worn, left joystick leans left. Grrr... but I could still get an idea for how it played,) and I honestly really didn't like ED with it. I felt that the controller didn't offer enough individual buttons and controls to do important things, like fully control the ship (key combos on controllers suck IMHO.) I couldn't find an easy way to map all movement directions without making it weird. So in the end, I decided that unless I were to go with a joystick setup, it probably isn't worth it to ditch the keyboard and mouse. I do after-all have a lot of keys on a keyboard and plenty of bindable buttons on my mouse and I've gotten better at using them.

Although at this point, if I consider any upgrade, a new GPU might be in order. Even though CFX works fine, I would like to have better performance in windowed modes (CFX doesn't run in windowed mode IIRC unless you have some FireGL cards). With that said, one 6870 almost handles the game as full graphics, sans AA, smoothly, so it's not like I'm in a rush either (unless I wanted to do E:D in eyefinity, which is a completely different matter.)

Also, if I am correct doesn't the adder haul 32 cargo?
