Heres a tip I read on reddit for improving FPS. Mainly in dense city areas with lots of building around. I was getting FPS spikes down to 35-45 FPS.

Set your shadow distance to Low or Medium - when its set to high the value is like 3 or 4x the amount that Medium sets it to. Fixed my FPS issues right away.

Asking how many hours a game provides when the game is an open world RPG is pointless, me feels. It will differ from person to person.

let it go or take it in private. no one cares about sales figures or engines. we just want to play the game and enjoy it.

Not so. It's all part of the game. And the sales figures were important because one of our members felt PC sales numbers of Bethesda's games were small and that mod use was an irrelevant number.

Both thought processes have been debunked now...the mod numbers earlier along with PC sales for Skyrim, and now definitive sales numbers for Fallout 4.

Why important? Because it's all related to the sheer amount of money Bethesda makes from its beta testers (customers), while relying on a HUGE modding community to fix.

And this is straight honesty from a huge Bethesda fan!

If each workshop is it's own storage, then can you not put all your junk in a more universal type location/hold and it still applies as materials for the workshop?

dunno if anyone answered yet (catching up on thread) but you can assign settlers to supply lines (not sure if right wording) instead of to a task in the settlement, and that allows items to be universal between those locations.

I really need to get this game and start tweaking... I have already seen what Ugrids to load does for visual fidelity and I am sad I cannot take epic screenshots.

Granted Better off going from 5 to 7 or maxing out at 9 since going further = unstable in most situations but still... I miss the fun I had tweaking Skyrim to the limit.

What's up? Every game thread has been a place to talk about EVERYthing related to that game. Why change the rules? You act personally insulted if anything negative is pointed out about the game...which is after all, JUST A GAME. :)

No. I could go on all day about how Jenky the crafting system is or the story or the companion mechanics because I don't love Fallout 4 but i'm still enjoying the game. these guys keep arguing about something they know nothing about is the problem and regardless this is not the right place for that type of discussion. lilhasselhoffer doesn't deserve your defense.

listen to Reggie

You seem to want to say something, but then you link to an idiotic video about the one company that can't figure out how to sell ice water in the desert.

My point was Bethesda has sold a massive amount of product. They've thus got a gigantic user base, which should justify adequate patching, and high quality ongoing DLC, for quite some time. This isn't an instance where after the second DLC pack we'll get something meh (read: the home expansion from Skyrim). In my book, that's a win for the community, though you're welcome to quote somebody else irrelevant to deny that.

Nintendo - We'll never do DLC, because selling our customers part of a game is inexcusable. The Same company that released Amiibos, which are plastic crack (or maybe heroine).
Overkill - You're just ignorant if you ever think we'll make our game about the DLC. A year later the paid DLC, and "random" drops in the game requiring a monetary investment (or extremely rare drop) are added.
MS - Games for Windows Live will unite console and PC gamers. Yeah, that service is basically a joke now.

My point is that you can sell anything. The big rub is that if you say thing A, deliver thing B, and you've got a lot of people expecting A you get anger. Bethesda has demonstrated a big enough user base that if A isn't delivered there'll be torches and pitchforks. I don't think they're stupid, so we'll likely have A before they stop supporting the game. That's as close to a QC win as Bethesda is possible of delivering.

No. I could go on all day about how terrible the crafting system is or the story or the companion mechanics because I don't love Fallout 4 but i'm still enjoying the game. these guys keep arguing about something they know nothing about is the problem and regardless this is not the right place for that type of discussion. lilhasselhoffer doesn't deserve your defense.

Well, TBH, if you feel the crafting or companion system is terrible, you definately should post that! This is the Fallout 4 discussion thread, not the Fallout 4 cheerleading thread. Your insight would be invaluable for new players.

I'm not necessarily defending @lilhasselhoffer (he and I have had our differences before), but the concept of discussing things positive AND negative. We can't really let personalities get in the way of good discussions, don't you think?

Hopefully, just hopefully, (doubtful) Bethesda will patch the game like The Witcher 3 was patched... Each patch from that game had 100, if not 1000s of tweaks.... Which shows a dedicated commitment, they didn't just release the game and forget about it - I believe there is still even more content coming out here in the near future.

All I have to say, is hopefully Bethesda learns a good lesson from the makers of Witcher 3. That game was eye popping when it was released, but the nonstop support with patches just made it that much better.

Pretty sweet so far. 18 hours logged total though I did re-start after a few hours when I had a better handle on the crafting and settlement rebuilding.

More fun new everyone.

Earlier there was a debate as to how many units of previous games had been sold. This time, Bethesda themselves are weighing in:
http://bethsoft.com/en-us/news

That's right, over 12 million (12,000,000) units sold world wide, with a sales figure in excess of $750,000,000. If anyone thought that Bethesda was just scraping by, or perhaps they were so small as to be allowed errors due to monetary restrictions, it's time to readjust thinking. Even if Bethesda is only getting 10% of the sales (an admittedly low estimate), you're looking at a game that has earned $75 million. Eat your heart out Hollywood!
How would they get only 10% of the sales from their own game they published themselves?

I'm tired of this crap. I try for positivity, including the fact that the game has a huge user base, and you act like I'm still slamming the game. If I wanted to do that, without ever having to play the game, I'd ask google.

Bethesda's own website lists off common bugs in the section about how to report them: http://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/1543742-fallout-4-pc-support-please-read/
A quick google search for "fallout 4 bugs" results in 23,000,000 results (0.31 seconds). Assuming only 1% of the bugs are unique, that's 2.3 million issues from a user base of 12 million. 19% experiencing bugs.
Bethesda is so incompetent as to require their forums be closed at 200 posts. We wouldn't have gotten to actual game feedback here if the same rules were applied.

Instead, I focus on the eventual resolution to problems being likely from Bethesda. I focus on what people want to see from the DLC. Heck, I even said that the opening was reasonable, given the ending that Bethesda chose. If you'd like me to say something genuinely dismissive, I'll oblige. To this point, an hour of play on a console is my experience. I can't say that I need anything more to see that Bethesda has left a lot of rough patches in the game. Seven years of development, and what we get is this? At least it's infinitely better than Duke Nukem Forever.

I admitted the number was low.

My logic works as such:
Gross Sales - Overhead - input material cost - manufacturing costs - transportation costs = profit

I don't take out the publisher's fees, the overhead is large (coders, marketers, managements, etc...), manufacturing and input materials covers Steam fees and production costs, and the transportation is our brick and mortar delivery.

90% loss is....honestly unrealistic. It's probably more like 25-40% profits. At the same time, you estimate low so that your conclusions can't be dismissed as based on overly optimistic figures.

player.forceav is all you need :p

Beware of forceav! It is the best way to destroy your save games should you ever want to stop cheating. Once you use a forceav command, you cannot go back and all the normal scaling rules go out the window, basically you're breaking the game's character progression that way.

I always use player.modav instead, this allows you to go back to previous values and it ties nicely into the regular game mechanics.

Expecting a game scale of Fallout 4 to be relatively bug-free is asking a lot, especially when the game has been out for less than a week.

Besides, because of the Internet, it makes feel like there are a lot more bugs than there are in reality. Remember that dissatisfied people's voice tend to be a lot louder than those satisfied.

As for me, I have not purchased the game. Me is in Canada and the game costs f-king 79.99 CAD. I am waiting for a sale and I am expecting to buy it a year later. It should be relatively bug free then.

P.S.
I am still waiting to purchase GTA V. It's still priced at 59.99 CAD. :D

Have you ever played any Bethesda game?

Actually

No shit. Bethesda has been fucking up since at least 1996 (Daggerfall).

Loved Jborg's idea of a high rise building :)

Here's mine which I built in Sanctuary.
I tried to go higher but higher means getting out of the workshop so right now it's impossible.
Have yet to figure out how to pass the wire for the wall bulbs on the top floor though:

Look through the Connectors and Switches tab in Power. It has several power conduit types, also wall - and floor/ceiling mounted conduits. Those are the ones you want :) There are also big power pylons, much more useful than the shitty little poles. I actually discovered those too late too after using little poles all over the place and wasting hours of time trying to attach wires through floors and stuff :D

Nice house :)

Aye, ser, since Daggerfall. Games of such nature is hard to be bug free.
There is huge difference between not bug free and absolutely ridiculously messy. The unofficial Skyrim patches are STILL being updated to this day. What does that tell you?

In a positive light, It tells me that the game is still being supported even after years of its inception. (How unofficial it may be)

In a negative light, it tells me that the game is bug-ridden piece of shita.

For the sake of my mind and sanity, I shall take the positive light view.

Edit: Personally, I did not experience any game breaking bugs when I played it. I recall finding some minor bugs but that was it.

Bugged open-world Bethesda games are like cars and wheels. It's just connected, you can't imagine them without.

The other side of the coin, is that there is no other game on the market that offers what Fallout and Skyrim have to offer. Along with the great deal of bugs, comes a great amount of freedom tinkering with the game and the engine. No other game has such open console support that works so well to manipulate the game. Not even GTA V comes close. Even those two games don't compare. The amount of assets in Gamebryo engine that you can actually interact with, is massive, and all these changes are also permanent in the game world.

I hate to sound like an apologist, but the bug fest is inherent to the game and engine.
