OFFICIAL Mass Effect: Andromeda (Discussion)

This just caught my eye, looks really good. It will no doubt soon be time for an Official thread on this game.

Yeah, it's looking very interesting. I think it's release is Spring 2017

Graphics definitely look good. Setting is one I love. Please, please let the content be worthwhile.

I just can't get hyped about this game.

I'm not really sure how to feel about the game at the moment.

  • The bonuses between Standard Pre-Order, Deluxe, and Super Delux are mindblowingly greed driven.
  • Class system removed - I like the sound of this. Yes, it makes it less of an RPG, but the balance between classes in ME3 was blindingly bad.
  • Skill tree replacing the class system. It worked a treat with PoE, I think it'll work well, especially rewarding players who focus with titles that provide bonuses.
  • Ability to respec. Seems good, the days of Diablo II's brutal lack of respeccing are over.
  • Melee weapons. In ME2 and 3 going into melee range was basically suicide - this is a cover based game. I'll be pleased if there's some form of skill tree direction that allows me to take a buttload of damage and rake some faces with lightning claws.
  • Dynamic cover system. They reckon they have jetpacks that allow you to boost in the air, but to me this still sounds like "no jump function" which annoys me. ME has always felt like a very narrow exploration experience, riddled with invisible walls. I loved most aspects and could forgive most areas it fell short, but exploring areas with dodgy rocks and ramps was infuriating without a jump button.
  • Renegade/Paragon system is gone. Great. You could never resolve conflicts how you wanted because you were too busy min-maxing one or the other to get the bonuses or unlock new conversation options. Heart, head, professional and casual sounds good in my head, but I'm curious if this is going to affect gameplay in clever ways, or just another blunt tool like Paragon/Renegade was.
  • More romance options, not just about sex. Some characters are looking for long term, others aren't. Not entirely sure how bothered I am. The romance options in ME1 and 2 were so blunt and juvenile I never really liked the system, it was shallow and didn't actually achieve anything. It added nothing to the narrative - if you romanced Tali and then she died in the suicide mission, nothing happened.
  • Squadmate dialogue increased. I don't want more dialogue. I want good dialogue. The issue with the later games is there were so many characters, some would get pushed to the sidelines because players had favourites and didn't give a crap about Muscles McGhee. Fewer squadmates and actual interesting dialogue would be great. I spent most of ME3 pressing the dialogue option that was in the right place on the wheel, not reading what it actually said.
  • Multiplayer now has a card system. I'd like to personally drown the guy in a sea of 12 inch dildos that thought this was a nice addition to any multiplayer game.
  • Main enemy is the Khett/Kett. I hope this isn't a big bad like the Reapers, whom despite being the biggest most baddest enemies in the universe, you could still wander around with no sense of emergency as worlds were seemingly decimated to chaff in the meantime. ME1's villain streak felt a little more thought out.
Overall mixed feelings.

Seems like they're trying to set a baseline for creating an MMO of the series.

Sorry, but you are wrong here. This was one of the BEST feature of ME universe, since you could actually play good/bad/neutral side, and get different bonuses for each aliment. Actually this was the MAIN reason ME1 and 2 had such a good reply-ability.

We don't need another COD type game that you enjoy it once then remove it for good.

Didn't care for the scene between the "Pathfinder" and "Kelly".

Right because being forced to virtually castrate the manhood of Kal'Reeger (who would survive either way in any of my playthroughs) or you lose so much paragon you can't balance the strife between the characters later was OH so AWESOME...

finally! gameplay :)
I've been anxiously awaiting this, thanks Bee. Looks like they went gung ho on the powers this time. Graphics look incredible. Can't wait to play it. There's going to be a ton of exploring in this one, which is a LOT better than the constant fetch quests in the last one if you ask me.

^Nice trailer, reminds me a bit of the recent Mars TV series that launched, which is pretty well done. Of course in the game universe, they pretty much have the tech end nailed so well that problems of that kind are almost a non issue. It's mainly the hostile species they encounter.

If there's one thing I'm not yet convinced by, it's the voice acting, which seems like it could be better. It sounds a bit too upbeat and young, which doesn't immerse you into the feeling that it's an adventure fraught with perils.

Except to get the best ending you had to be a Paragon(good). It's not the same think as being able to play as a complete a**hole and not get the ending that is complete shit.

Bioware commentary

finally! gameplay :)

Personally, as a first impression, I didn't like it that much. Looks like another mindless shooting and grinding game for resources. I enjoyed ME for the overall story, character development and different paths you could take. This game already confirmed it scraped a lot from those, so waiting for actual game reviews before going to purchase it.

It looks good, and probably fun, but.....it appear they have FIRMLY left any semblance of RPG behind and decided to stay entirely in the shooter category. Sad.

the screen is flashing take cover but the person playing isn't. maybe the difficulty is set to easy?

the big reveal here is that CHARACTER CLASSES are now PROFILES you load on the fly.
