Pulling trigger for PS4, but one lingering quesion

I am about to pull trigger for PS4 since there are now 3 games I am wanting to play.

I am a guy who brought Wii U just to play Xenoblade Chronicles X, so 3 wanted games warrant the console purchase.

The only difference is enthusiasm.

I was dying to play Xenoblade Chronicles X. But I am not so hot on Final Fantasy 15, Star Ocean, and SAO Hollow Realization. I could go without playing those two but Xmas / New year sale adds free FF 15 to PS4 bundle which is 45 CAD savings for me in addition to a small sale to the bundle.

As some of you may know, PS4 has 2 versions. Slim and Pro. Pro has improved hardware for 4k but my screen is 21.5inch FHD. I have no plan to purchase 4K TV or monitor.

So, here comes the question.

For FHD, I suppose the difference between PS4 slim and pro is minimal? The price differnece is pretty big. It's 150ish CAD. Slim goes for 330 CAD. Pro goes for 500CAD.

I googled around and got conflicting results, so I am asking those who actually own PS4. I am leaning toward PS4 slim though.

If you don't have VR, a Pro isn't worth it IMO. The fact that it can't do 4k Blu-Ray kills it. This is coming from someone with a 4k TV and the Pro, but I also have VR.

I haven't listed it yet but still have my old PS4 to sell..too bad you're in Canada.

Well, having played all Final Fantasy, I kinda feel I need to play 15. I even played FF online games for years, both of them, on PC.

Threre are 3 games that I kind of want to play on PS4. I've waited years on PS4 until there were just enough games for me to go for them.

I don't get too well with VR. Gets me dizzy. So, I guess Slim, it is. It's not like I will be playing Shooter and Mainstream AAA tiles on it. I've got PC for that.

Dude the Pro IMO is a let down. No 4K native play AND no 4K bluray player! I mean really WTF! I'm looking at an XboxoneS now.

FYI I have a PS3 but man that Pro was a let down. If your just going to buy it for 3 games just get a used PS4 and call it a day.

The Pro has a faster GPU so will run your games more smoothly at 1080p, it's not just for 4K. The catch is that the game has to be coded to take advantage of this, or the performance is the same as a bog standard PS4. New games should take advantage of it, but older ones you need to check as it's only a few at the moment that will get patched.

A friend of mine has recently got a Pro along with a 49" 4K TV and I can tell you the graphics look fabulous at 4K. If you didn't know, most people couldn't say if it was a console or PC. The biggest difference is that a high end PC will show some more detail and at much faster framerates in 1080p and 4K modes. That difference is worth spending the money on, of course.

By the way, I've just bought the Pro myself to play with my console friends online, plus the exclusives. It's just been delivered and is still sitting in its sealed box all delicious and tempting! :D It came as an Amazon deal with Fallout 4 for an extra 99p so getting this option was a no-brainer.

tsk, not garbage! I wanna play online with my console friends. This was the primary reason for getting it, especially as one of them has the pester power of a 5 year old! :) The exclusives like The Last of Us are icing on the cake.

btw, I'm taking out a new Sky sub too and that came with a free Xbox One S + FIFA 17, so I'm gonna have the best of all worlds - access to all three main gaming platforms. :D I can then sell that console and get the Scorpio when the time comes. Now, that's smart.

Meh. I guess. I'm just super disappointed in the PS4 Pro. I have a feeling when Scorpio drops Sony is gonna pull something like PS4 Pro "Ultra" and people will end up buying it.

I think you're right there. I mean, it was intended as a ".5" upgrade so that's what we've got and hence it's a bit underwhelming. If I still had the PS4 which got stolen a while back I wouldn't have upgraded to this. We might just see the mythical PS5 when Scorpio drops.

See I'm in the market for a console but I just cant bring myself to spend the money when I know Scorpio is right around the corner. I mean why would I buy anything this holiday season? IMO people who buy it right now are kinda dense (present company excluded)

And no, you're right, I'm dense. :p

Its not that long to wait to get a huge improvement in graphics and capability. MS shot themselves in the foot by announcing Scorpio before the holiday season IMO.

^^ Yeah what he said. Again, sellingt the old Xbox just makes for an effective upgrade price on the new one and the whole thing isn't that expensive to start with anyway.

Ah...
Scorpio is going to be around 500 bones. 600 with markups. You'll get maybe 100 bucks for the one by then.

Here is all you guys really need until Scorpio.....

Xbox is out of the question because of selection of games.

Xbox games, I can play those on my PC, no problem.

But Star Ocean, SAO Hollow realization, Gravity Rush 2 (upcoming), and probably few more before PS4 lifespan runs out won't come to PC or Xbox. The thing is that Sony exclusives are far better for my taste in games which is JRPG oriented.

Why do you think I am buying consoles? I have PS2, PS3, PS Vita, PS TV, Wii, Wii U, and Nintendo 3DS.
It's not because I like concept of buying additional hardware with limited usage. It's because I want to play games that don't come to PC.

As a gamer, I care not which medium I get to choose as long as I get to play the ones I want.

Edit: I also have a Xbox 360 due to a single Xbox360 exclusive: Magna carta 2.

A year is a long time to wait if you are 12 and never had a console before.

Benchmark Scores Benching is for bitches.
A year is a long time to wait if you are 12 and never had a console before.
You're right! I just bought a XboxOne S!

tsk, not garbage!

Just out of interest where did you manage to get that sky deal?

You create one thread about consoles ... and people start buying them ... I'm gonna start believing that PC gaming is dying for real
