RAM Issue

This is the cpu socket, photo taken with phone, and not a very good one.

As far as i can tell all pins are good, there is no dirt in it.

I just reseated the cpu and ram and heatsink. And hopefully it will get better.

Damn, problem got back again.
Note, i got a broken ram clip on the second slot for dual channel.
Could that make this issue, since i did put the ram correctly, and it is not lose?
Im now starting to be very stressful.
Cant a broken ram clip be replaced or something?
Bios again detects all 8GB, Aida and CPUZ detect both sticks, but Windows shows 4GB usable.

You'd have to replace the entire slot bud...

...that could very well be it, though, they do fit in there snug. Is your motherboard vertical or laYing flat?

It is in a tower case.
But if it is not put in properly, bios would show only 1 stick instead of both.
Also Windows does detect the full 8GB, but shows 4GB usable.

Can bad set ram timings cause this issue, since my timings are set manually?

Set back to Optimised Defaults and nothing, still 4GB usable.
Did that as well still no change.

I guess I have to change that broken clip, or change the whole slot.

Agreed...but also finding a good, affordable P55 board may be a challenge. Last time I looked everyone wanted WAY too much for em in the states. Hopefully his luck is better. Was a short-lived socket and platform.

It's going to be easier than trying to replace a dimm socket. I'm certain he doesn't have the machine to do that. You can't just replace the clip either AFAIK..

Really, it's his only choice...

Depends on the quality of the board IMHO...I built several (one for me, and several for customers) and the one that was my personal rig is still running with the original Asus 55i Saberthooth board like a champ, pushing an i5 760 to 4GHz.

Agreed. But it doesn't change the fact that good P55 boards are getting harder to find. Frankly I'd say sell that shit and try to get into an Sandy or Ivy setup.

Those P7P55D's might be an option...but I've also seen A LOT of those ones fail too...so for under or close to $100 I wouldn't take the risk IMHO. Really anything on that list that's going to be decent is $100 or well over. Looking for a 55i Sabertooth is over $200. Definitely platform upgrade time.

But seeing as that's our market and not the OP's, he might have better luck over that way.

There's a few in that link I'd overclock on.. I was quite intimate with that platform. $100 or less he's fine.

But yeah, he's just at that tipping point of upgrading.

Well i guess im gonna put the ram stick on the other channel, and be done with it.
I wont run dual channel, but ill have full 8GB ram, which will still be better than messing around with the slot with broken clip, just to get dual channel which isnt a big benefit anyway.

42GB, lol.. wow.. and a ton of its used?!!! Read what it says 733MB avaialable of 42000.....

Anyway, manually shrink it to like 8GB.

I'm only seeing what looks like 4249MB, or 4.2GB.

Most I see are closer to 2GB, but 4GB wouldn't have me worried...the utilization seems pretty high. Could be a bug...did you close and re-open DXDIAG?

Interesting to see so much of it in-use, what do you do on that system?

What does Task Manager and Resource Monitor have to show?

How about event viewer logs?

Shrank itself when I set it to Auto, and I got 4,5GB Page file size.
Still all 8GB RAM detected, and I get 4GB as hardware reserve.
Tomorrow ill try booting up with both sticks individualy at slot with broken retention pin, and if I get 4GB on both tests, I think a fresh Win 10 install is in order.

I wonder if you have some bent pins or something else going on with the board... Shouldn't have that hardware reserved memory at that allocated size....but that would explain why your page file is so large...you can only use half your RAM at this point...This likely isn't the OS causing these issues in my experience. With this platform I've only seen it with bent pins in the CPU socket.
