I don't really care what Dying Light was originally meant to be called.

Yes, but Techland made both Dead Island and Dying Light, and both are zombie games, so it's natural to chronicle the evolution of that genre for them.

Personally I enjoyed Dead Island, and feel it's a huge travesty Deep Silver handed it off to devs that are completely ruining it, which are Yager Development, and now Sumo Digital.

Dead Island was great. Not perfect but a lot of fun. Riptide sucked. Dying Light is fantastic!

Anyone following Dying Light may already be aware of this, if not:

The next DLC coming out has been pushed back until around mid October. It appears they have some bug squashing to do and some adjustments they're including from user requests on the last DLC.

So, for those of us eagerly awaiting the next new DLC fix for Dying Light, you'll have to be patient for a couple more weeks.

I do have to say, I like the crafting process with this one MUCH better than Dead Island... I wouldn't mind if I had to hit a tool shop to make a flame striking katana or something, but simply to crap some more nails in a board for a spiked board? that's just stupid.

I love that 2 years later, minor content or not, they are still supporting this game, which is one of my top ten games of all time. It is so much fun for me!

The game didn't work for me. I did fuck all quests, and basically spent 173 hours hoarding stuff.

Yeah even though I beat both dying light and the following I still play this weekly with friends. It's so much fun. Currently playing through it on my friends game to help him and it just never gets old.

I think if they required you to track down a workbench just to craft things in Dying Light, it would really pull you from the immersion that the game puts you in. You're running for your life at times and to all of a sudden happen across a workbench you'd try to cobble something together - it just wouldn't fit. I like that in Dying Light you collect things, find your blueprint and craft away - just takes a few seconds and you continue on with the game.

Dead Island was a decent enough game, but it sucked when you finally found all the parts you needed to craft/upgrade a weapon and you had to try and track down a workbench. Instead of being focused on the gameplay (running, killing zombies, surviving), you now have that thought in the back of your mind that you really want to make this new weapon and you're frantically looking for a workbench and everything else going on is just kind of an annoyance until you finally make that new weapon.

I wanted to get into the Multiplayer, really the reason I took a chance a few weeks ago, and ignored my Dead Island experience. Glad I did, but I've been afraid to get into a Multi game, since I assume some people Multi to finish quests, and some multi just to kill stuff, or are farming an area.... It's not like L4D2, where it's just jump in, and kill all the zombies with what you have, trying to complement your teams' abilities...

We play the game, side quests and main story. Coop is really fun in this game and I like that even on someone elses game you keep anything you find and level up. Your character and gear travel between games which is cool.

So on that note, if you're looking to coop with someone questing, does the game know which quests you're tracking and just put you with someone at the same quests, or at the same level, or just random?

You have to join their game. If you guys are at the same level then you share quests and earn exp evenly but if one is a much higher level then it kinda changes up how you level. Every quest picked up while you are together is shared though. Even though I have beaten the game; now that I am playing with my friend who just started a game I am now getting all of his quests to complete...though I completed them on my play through.

I noticed leveling together is skewed if you are a higher level though. Its best to start a game fresh at the same time but any combo works.

Content Drop #1 is out!

3 new weapons to craft. Granted, it's not super exciting, but added weapons for a method to kill zombies is always a great addition!

At first, I was terrified of nightfall in this game.

Then, I welcomed it. Had a blast holding out in the power transfer station overnight with friends just because. Welcoming the abnormals and slicing through them with glee.

I still avoid night when I can but every once in awhile we do the same. Hold out at some key location and take on those crazy beasts. Good EXP at night!

There have been a couple of main DLC updates to Dying Light as folks have seen. There are also a handful of new weapons that are not part of the official DLCs. You can get them on gemly.com if you haven't done so already or if you just weren't aware of them. They cost nothing except for a few minutes to make an account and then to use the codes given on the dockets.dyinglight.com site. I also included the Karcass Buggy skin if you weren't aware of it.

I got SO PISSED last night. I got to the final boss in the main game, and managed to not pass thru the specific area in the tower to trigger the "save every 10 steps" function. this caused the game to glitch such that when (not "if") I died, I had to spawn back on the crane and jump onto the building again. Then, the game progressed into what I consider the two worst types of game archetypes. The platformer, and the typist. The typist is for the actual boss fight, where he lunges at you, and you have to hit a certain key that flashes up on the screen. The problem with this is that there's no warning, and no other fights prior to this in the game require this method. The worse part was that the platformer part of the game took me over an hour to finish due to stupid game physics. Once I finally managed to trigger the missing spot, and was "saved" closer to the end, I finished in less than 10 minutes. But that only happened after backing all the way to the opening screen, and clicking down to "The Following", and deciding to look to see how people were making it thru that section first....
*sigh*. driving thru the following now, 30 minutes in and playing with water pipes Much better. Even looted my first OJ weapon: a Scythe

That jump from the crane to the building - that's where you start if you die. My younger brother, for some reason had troubles making the jump. He, however, had some potions that make you run faster and after dying like 10 times, he used a potion and made the jump.

The QTE boss battle, yeah, it sucks. I hate it. It felt like a lazy way to end the game. The big build up to the boss guy and you're left with pressing a handful of buttons on the keyboard when you're prompted....eh, stupid. Oh well. The rest of the game is awesome.

If they make a Dying Light 2 (and I see no reason why they wouldn't), I hope they don't have some crappy QTE ending.

As for The Following - the water pipe mission.....yeah, the first time I did it I parked my buggy on the far side of the building you start at so when I saw the water pipes bursting I took off on foot and it is one long run on foot. I was on top of the pipes and running as fast as I can. I made it within about 100 yards of the spot you need to go before the time ran out.

How to get it:

• Your character needs to be at least level 12;
• Talk to the Quartermaster to get the blueprint;
• Find required parts;
• Craft one of the two pistols with the silencer attached;
• Unleash your rage… silently!

Psst! Don’t forget that silencer-equipped pistols need a special kind of bullets, called the subsonic ammo. You have the best chance to find them in abandoned police vans.
