Dead Space is available, once again, for free at Origin as part of their On The House promotion. The title first made its appearance back in 2014 and lasted 42 days before EA removed it. Coincidentally, Dead Space hits its 10 year anniversary this year. Kudos to EA for giving gamers a second opportunity to get this great space-horror classic. To get your free copy, head over to Origin's On the House website, log in and add Dead Space to your "My Games" library. Enjoy!

Mass Effect 2, now Dead Space. This is really nice how I got those two for free. They're a bit dated for sure, but still great games.

Sometimes the retroness of a game can actually add to its appeal, too. I know lots of people that are into 80s games on the Amiga, BBC, Spectrum etc. They've got the original hardware, too.

its worth having it. my daughter plays the sims, and that alone was worth the $6/month. i figured F@ck it. plus i get a bunch of other games too....Battlefield 1 was on the list, but its not my cup o tea. some of the games are trash, like Battlefield star wars edition, and several other titles id never pay for, but ive found a few worth the $6

What's wrong with Origin?? Is just another client like Steam, etc. You can run it only when need it...

It's monumentally redarded by design. It has perpetual problems by stalling Windows on shutdown and what's even more nerve wrecking, the damn thing doesn't survive system formats. Steam and GOG Galaxy, after system partition format, games on other data partition remain there. You just install the client in the same place and all games remain there. If you do the same with Origin, EVERYTHING is gone and you have to redownload several 10 gigabytes of games every frigging time. Not even backing up USERS profiles helps. This is so monumentally idiotic I just can't comprehend how EA can't do it right. Then again seeing how broken their games are lately, I'm not really surprised...

Client as such is alright, but is based on such weak and broken foundations it's bad because of that alone.

on the house appeared slightly before ea access, both are over three years old, access is still cheaper even if you were going to be buying 50% sales each year, not everything EA does is a scam out to get you even though you are free to not buy anything :shadedshu:

which year are you talking about? i cant run in-place updates after adding an AV with high level settings (also switching to high UAC settings), so for now i uninstall, my game files are there, i reinstall, my game files are still there (burnout paradise + titanfall)... i dont remember if \origin games\ the default or if i wrote that, meaning my uninstalling of origin only removes the \origin\ folder

i have never tried this with steam while using \steam\steamapps\ as the library path to know if it removes everything except that, havent tried with uplay either

user profiles what? nothing is stored there except for specific game saves/configs like bfbc2

you can copy game data for years, i copied bf3 onto a second computer a few years ago, i may have even done this to bf2142 in the EADM days before origin (for sure i've cloned an EADM account set to autologin, but anyway that's the past)

now that i think about it, maybe when i copied bf3, the trick was to remove a few SMALL game files, start dload on second computer, close origin, paste my copy, resume origin, problem solved... i guess a reformat is technically a different computer

edit2: if you think you were coping origin stuff from your user profile, you're supposed to go to \program data\ not user (not program files either, although maybe there's something in common files)

Well, neither Steam, GOG Galaxy or even UPlay require such f**kery with files. You just roll the app over old location and you're done in 2 minutes without any redownloading. Origin however, oh my god...

That sounds quite problematic with all those problems.

I've got 1.4TB of Steam games, so I wouldn't appreciate re-downloading all that if I just needed to fix the client. btw, I did have to re-download them a little while back when my HDD gave errors and corrupted everything. On my 20mb connection, it took about 9 days working 24/7. :)

That is what I do. It really isn't a big deal. I don't even think I have the client installed anymore, but I'll reinstall it when I need to.

that's ONE problem of copying to another OS that still has a workaround to not have to redownload so it doesnt even matter

Since it needs a workaround I'd say it does matter. Steam actually has it in their FAQ how to transfer the games.

a tantrum about the entirety of origin based on one issue that not everyone will utilize, that at least is capable of working around, is quite different from something affecting everyone that cannot be worked around

Sure, they're different and I'm not commenting on the temper tantrum either. It only takes one big issue for it to be significant though. I gave you the example of my 1.4TB of games. Now, I can get them all back in 9 days (still a fairly long time) but what if someone's got a really slow and/or intermittent internet connection, doing this would become an ordeal and perhaps not completely workaroundable due to thsi. And all because Origin can't do the same as Steam. So yeah, it matters.
