SLI with different cards

may i ask that the gtx 1060 3 or 6 gb can be SLI by now ?......... with better driver or support ?
i have 2 pairs of msi aero 3gb and 6gb and i'm very tempting or should i just wait a a few month even next year to make it happen ?

I don't understand what should have changed, since these cards always could be SLIed using DifferentSLIauto, as shown in that video.
He basically explains it all, including the hint that SLI is on its way out, that there's no guarantee of success and that cards without a SLI bridge sometimes don't scale well.
You'd have to use version 1.7.1 (Win 10 x64) together with 388.71, still the same combination as in the beginning of 2018.

may i ask that the latest version that i can only use is 388.71 right ?

@All
Happy 4th of July (belated) and thanks to everyone again for keeping this thread alive. It must be getting close to the longest active thread on TPU?

I have been far removed from this since getting involved with it years back.
It would be good if someone else would take over the publicist role.

If anyone has any interest or thoughts, please speak to Fourstaff whom moderates this forum/sub forum and he can swap you in for myself.

@P!nkpanther maybe you would be suitable?

everything works. the patch goes through and works.
but no SLI option in control panel after several restarts and re-tries of going through the whole process.
i have windows 10 64-bit pro

Why wont it work?? its acting as if its doing something but no option in control panel.
Also! the differentsli.exe when i click patch. it patches. but it closes itself. is that normal?

Actually I hang around here quite often trying to help and the main problem for me always has been not being able to bring the original post up to date.
If that publicist role would allow me that, I'd take it. If on the other hand it's only a different label but with the same restrictions as a regular user, then I'm not particularly interested.

No, that's not normal. You're supposed to see a green line which says 'Patching was successful!'.

This looks like you installed a driver which was not patched at all. Or a patched driver which was copied to the wrong location.
How do you know the patch worked?
Which instructions did you follow?

i cannot find the nvlddmkm.sys only the nvdimmn.sys....... in this location C:\Windows\System32\drivers

so far i can only find the nvlddmkm.sys in system32\ driverstore\filerepository\nv_dispi.inf_amd64_d37ca5c2cde53609 i can copy the nvlddmkm.sys and successfully patch it but i cannot copy and paste it back to the nv_dispi.inf_amd64_d37ca5c2cde53609 cause the explorere.exe is using it .......i'm using the officially 388.71 from nvidia and the different auto sli version is 1.71.
I'm trying to SLI my 2 gtx 1060 6gb

You cannot simply copy the files over. This has to be done by the correctly modified install script in safe mode with networking.
Make sure to follow the correct install instructions closely:
  1. Once you have a patched nvlddmkm.sys, install it using the install procedure, e.g. for Win 10 https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/sli-with-different-cards.158907/page-88#post-3644795
  2. To see where the active nvlddmkm.sys is located: Device Manager → Double click your main display adapter → Tab: Driver → Driver Details

it wont work AT ALL on windows 7 for me :(
Says it works. but nothing happens. No good. I used the driver version specified. but it just doesnt work. it says it patches correctly and whatnot (gives a green successful)
but when i restart my computer. my display drivers are not working and says problem with them when i go to properties of them
Does it only work on windows 10 now?
Also what am i doing wrong?

did I just simply do it wrong?
What could be the problem?

Nevermind!!!!! I got it to work!!!!
Weirdest SLI combination EVER!!!!!!!!! but it works!
GPU-Z also shows it works!
SLI option in nvidia control panel also works!

GT 1030 and GTX 1050 Ti 4GB both overclocked as high as i can push them

it works but I dont get much performance gain because the cards aren't identical and I cant put the 1050 ti as the "boot" card in my bios which causes some performance problems. i tried but doing that would just make them not work due to a driver reporting error and not function. really weird that its so picky like that. i tried just plugging my DVI cable into the GTX 1050 and guess what. no signal. and setting it as boot card in the bios makes SLI not work (driver error)
Another weird thing if I run anything "fullscreen exclusive" mode. my lights in my house flicker a tiny bit and my framerate is unusually low.

Even with perfect scaling, the max. framerate possible in 2-way SLI is twice that of the slower card.
Given that your 1050ti already is about twice as fast as your 1030, this setup makes no sense.

I know. it was just for testing purposes only.
and even the best SLI setup with two GPU's would only go from 100% performance. to 150% to 200% at best. no higher than 200% possible unless you overclock your SLI setup.
I saw someone do a dual GT 1030 SLI setup. but they never tested it while overclocked (they should of tested that. would be awesome to see how it compares to GTX 1050 Ti! when both GT 1030's are overclocked in SLI) lol

Hey do you have a discord? is there a discord server for this? I'd like to join!. if not, can someone create a discord server?
Scrap mechanic seems to get SUPER INCREDIBLY good SLI scaling (my FPS is slightly better with my "wonky" SLI setup than just using the GTX 1050 by itself about 5 to 10FPS more generally stays over 100FPS before it'd only be around 70 to 100FPS)

I have successfully SLI'ed with two 560ti 448 and tested using Furmark.

However, when I am loading this game (Gears of War 4) it displayed an error: GW410 A grafhics card with 2GB of VRAM or above is recommended. 0GB was detected.

Any recommendations that I could get around this 0GB VRAM error? (If I disabled the SLI the game loads fine)

Thanks!

@P!nkpanther thanks for the timely reply!

A bit more info, I am using two similar 560ti both with 1GB VRAM.
However, I also needed the DifferentSLIAuto due to the mainboard is not SLI certified (only supports CrossFire).

The game (GOW4) loads fine with SLI disabled. It will still show the GW410 warning as a result of having only 1GB VRAM but it loads fine (limited to 720p only so no 1080p gameplay).
With SLI enabled, it shows the error and the game either exists or crashed I am not sure. I am using the 388.71 driver.

The other thing I've noticed is GPU-Z shows PCIE 16x and 1x where it's supposed to have 4x on the second lane. Trying to figure that out also... do you think it might be related?

Cheers!

According to the MoBo's manual, the speed of the second PCIE slot depends on whether there is a card in PCIE x1 slot.
Concerning the GOW4 problem, that's too hard to tell why the game slips through the warning on a single card but crashes in the SLI case.
It's an unsupported use case that is left to chance.

is that work with quadro k4200?
If the card runs with the 388.71 driver there's a good chance it will work, yes.

Thanks for pointing it out. I got that sorted, the second lane is now x4.

I double checked and it seems like the patched driver is detected as 0GB, even with SLI disabled.
This would seem like an issue with the patched driver...? Should I try the old manual patch, what do you think?

Cheers!

I don't think it has anything to do with the patch, since it only bypasses SLI requirements detection within nVidia drivers.
As I said, from the game developers side, SLI with less than 2 GB is an unsupported, untested scenario, so things might go right or as well go wrong.

That makes sense, much appreciated.

What's involved in getting the patch to work against the more recent drivers? (for example I know 391 will work for sure).
Obviously I did not go through the whole 110 threads so if this had been discussed before please point me towards the right direction.

Thanks again.

Cheers!

The original creator of the DifferentSLIauto patch has left the building long ago and the project is at the mercy of other volunteers, like @JamesZzzz
Sometimes they find the time to update, other times the project stands still for quite some time.

I have a problem with this mod. I want to do SLI of 9500GT and GF210 (NVIDIA Driver 342.01) and I can't get that to work properly. I used 1.3.1 version because it enables SLI in NVIDIA Control Panel, but If I enable it, the driver is crashing :c I also tried the newer versions, but they're not working too (not even in panel)! My OS is Windows 10, maybe change to Windows 7? Both GPUs are 512MB.

This is a clear sign that these two cards cannot be SLIed. All this patch does is enabling the SLI option, which nVidia hides from you if the cards do not exactly match.
BTW, you wouldn't gain anything by SLIing these two cards, because the theoretical maximum framerate is twice that of the slower card.
The GF 210 being about half as fast as the 9500GT would slow down the SLI configuration below the framerate of the 9500GT alone.

Hi there. Quick question. I can't launch any Battleye games using Windows Test Mode. Is there anyway to temporarily disable that to play Battleye games? I understand I won't be able to use Different SLI under that scenario, but is there a way to quickly undo/redo the process? Let me know if you have any ideas. Thanks!

You can try to do only advanced (re)boots and every time select 'Disable Driver Signature Enforcement' to get rid of test mode.
Other than that there's no quick way of switching driver DLLs from patched to unpatched.
