Ill answer your real(/hypothetical) question. If Im being honest, I would say Id have to see how I feel at the time, but I believe I would be leaning towards a no.So real question, anyone can answer. Next year( when 3080TI or whatever its name may be) is release, is $1500USD going to be an acceptable price because it is 38% faster than 2080TI?
The only reason I purchased a 2080ti is because I remember thinking the wait between the Titan and the 1080ti was painfully slow and I thought to myself I would have rather spent the money on the Titan than wait again. I wasnt expecting to be buying any card right now, I thought Turing would launch with 2070/2080, wth the 2080 only just edging the 1080ti and my hope was a non-silly-3k Titan would show up soon after and I would buy it.
But Nvidia seems to be pushing up the Titan brand, and to my luck (I use “luck” loosely here) the 2080ti is announced right out the gate for the old Titan price point.
It is pushing things to their tolerance point, but I am sure thats no mistake on Nvidias part. It may be more than Id have liked to spend, but I appreciate it is a physically huge chunk of silicon and that R&D cost is a thing (whether we like it or not).
For what its worth, (IMO!) I dont see the prices going up further, but I do think a grand for a flagship will be the new norm.
