I love the look of them, im interested to know how far amd have come. I hope the card is more powerful than we suspect... I think this release Is a good thing.:toast:

No its about adoption rate and that one is closely tied with price. You can want a lot, if you can't afford it, its dead in the water. And the outlook right now is that its going to be a pretty costly endeavour. Look at what mining does to this market. So yes, its entirely about you not having upgraded your 1080ti as well. Its not an insult, but an observation. You say you like the real time effect, but haven't deemed it worthwhile to invest in it and even now you dodge the question. I'm looking for a bit of reflection on that ;)

See why I'm saying 'money never lies'?

Yes, you are absolutely right. I drive Ford C-Max and absolutely adore Mustang but because I do not have it my money still lies? I dont care about adoption rate and you too should not be burdened with that, time will tell. Its about progress and it costs. Mos def graphic cards are only burden for my wallet but I do not matter, progress does.

Purecain, Lisa said suspect 2080-ish performance.

@Anymal - Would you please stop double/triple/quadruple posting (against the forum rules)? Edit to add...or take a moment and get your head together before posting.

So where is my 300€ 1440p 60+Hz full raytracing GPU? NOWHERE! sad. :(
Why ask AMD?? Ask Nvidia, the savior of gamers to do that.

AMD has something that's doing the "Ray tracing". I haven't yet confirm this but heard about it. Although it's more on the soft level I think.
Honestly not sure as I said maybe anyone here heard something as well about this?

Honestly. I'm thinking of buying one for myself. Replacement of my V64 if the performance for the RVII is right I will not hesitate.

I'm predicting in between 2070 and 2080 in 1080p, few percent behind 2080 in 1440p and a couple percent faster in 4K.

I'd be surpriesed if it scales like that. Since gddr5x and gddr6 we havent seen amd cards 'catch up' at higher res..

My guess is win some, lose some with 2080 being overall a couple percent slower across all res.

High end is about marketing, muscle show, parade.
And yet there are more GTX 1080 Tis in Steam's hardware survey than RX 580 and RX 480 combined, which are AMD's top sellers…

Top sellers because of mining. Without mining their market share would be below 20%.

I don't think Steam is a good indicator of cards sales. This number is applicable only to steam and what 5%-10% of total card owners?

Steam might not be an indicator of total card sales, but it certainly is the best indicator and a good representative selection of cards used for PC gaming.
There are certainly cards sold which are not used for gaming, but most of these are low-end OEM cards, so who cares about those?

Those surveys are pointless as quite a lot of AMD owners don't even get the option to participate on the Survey (Me for example). Plus most of the Polaris sales were on the Mining market and most of the Pascal sales were down to the GTX 1060 and GTX 1070 were the money is made, those halo products don't help a lot on the bottom line of those companies, that is why nVidia failed to capitalize with the RTX and had to write off $500 millions due to stale sales of the RTX and stagnant old mainstream GPUs excess inventory.

And why not?
Good question, when you even click directly on the link to participate, it does not work. Yet i tried the same thing on my previous nVidia powered laptop and worked right away. It seems that it is very selective on who participates on it.

Odd, my kids rigs (all amd) had no problems doing so.

I find this to be a one off rather than a systemic issue of bias.

Considering that I sold that nVIdia powered laptop, purchased two more systems, assembled a new one, we are talking about three systems here that still does not show or validate the participation of it. So in the end, there are more reliable ways out there to find out validation and reliable info regarding sales and market share.

Those surveys are pointless as quite a lot of AMD owners don't even get the option to participate on the Survey (Me for example).
First of all, the Steam hardware survey is automatic, it's anyone who has logged into steam (the native client) in the past month.

Plus most of the Polaris sales were on the Mining market
Firstly, I've seen no real evidence of mining dominating sales. Sure, tens of thousands of GPUs were sold for mining purposes, and it did cause a strain on the supply from time to time, but dedicated mining were never a majority of sales. Secondly, there were no substantial "recovery" of AMD market share after the mining collapse ~1 year ago.

and most of the Pascal sales were down to the GTX 1060 and GTX 1070 were the money is made, those halo products don't help a lot on the bottom line of those companies, that is why nVidia failed to capitalize with the RTX and had to write off $500 millions due to stale sales of the RTX and stagnant old mainstream GPUs excess inventory.
In fact, the mid range/upper mid range is where most of the total profit is made.
And slow sales of Turing doesn't help your argument, the proportions of Polaris vs. Pascal in the steam hardware survey is pretty much the same as 1 year ago, and Vega market share is so small that it keeps falling off and on the list at the very end.

Nope, it would ask you to scan your system and upload your data, it haven't done it on mine for a long time, I went to two hardware refreshes and nothing yet. Im not the only one with those issues.

Wrong, it had been known that AMD benefit from mining sales, even nVIdia did, of course not meaning that it was the majority of the profits but according to volume sales, they dropped considerably right after the mining crash.

Wrong again, the last reports of October and January, showed a big decline on Ryzen CPUs, so does it mean that people thrown their CPUs away and purchased Intel or does it mean that they disapeared onto another dimension? Unfortunately Steam Hardware Survey is not the best tool for market share and it had been proven several times already, end of story.

AMD benefited from mining sales because the total demand was surpassing supply for a good while, and that is usually good for any maker of a product.

When sales of a product drop just a few percent, oversupply can happen pretty quickly, especially when the moved volume is very high to begin with.

Wrong again, the last reports of October and January, showed a big decline on Ryzen CPUs, so does it mean that people thrown their CPUs away and purchased Intel or does it mean that they disapeared onto another dimension? No, the survey is done per month. Fluctuations are normal, as some people don't game every month, especially in "back to school season" in August and January. Sometimes we even see old Windows versions regain market share, but that doesn't mean people are buying old Windows versions. Unfortunately Steam only shows the detailed data for the previous month vs. the one before that, I wish they showed the last month and the average over the past year or so.

Steam is still the largest PC gaming market, and its data is the most representative of real gamers out there, provided that we don't count people playing solitaire and Farmville as gamers.
