HBM is very expensive. From what I could find 8Gb is/was around $150-$175. They are probably just barely breaking even on these cards (probably any cards with HBM on it). At least half the cost of the card is just in the HBM, interposer and packaging

Can't wait for performance results! Unfortunately I'm not expecting miracles from this card but, hey, i can hope. :3

I would also like to see results from this card set back to around 1500MHz, it is no doubt pushed far out of its optimum voltage out of the box, honestly I think it may be as efficient (or perhaps more so) than Turing when tamed a bit.

Well it's 7nm+hbm2+16Gb so i can't be sold for 400$, at least amd is making efforts on 2 battlefronts ie Intel>Amd<Nvidia so take a break and stop whinning.

Well they could have drop two HBM2:s and released it as very competitive 8GB 512GB/s 1440p card for $500. Which would be still fine for 4k gaming.

Will the card be tested in its original state or with a paste replacement? That seemed like a weird thing to do.

Everyone is unboxing, no tests yet. Assume AMD has some driver issues to workout before numbers can be released.
Drivers are excellent. Having different NDA dates for unboxing and review is done so that the deluge of Vega headlines is spread through a longer period of time.

LOL. This is just a rebranded card. No real R&D.

There where some fixes before taping it into 7nm. But it's a different card with basicly 60 CU's and not 64 or 56 as the previous models where. A slight change here and there.

Kinda curious how it will test after you put it together again. :D Especially temp wise.

Looks nice tho..

HBM2 should be sorta guarantee that we wont see much artifacts. :D

That thermal stuff is pretty interesting. Wonder if it could be used for CPU?

Well, 3 days to go.

I hate this unboxing and review in separate parts strategy, but I can understand it from a coverage and marketing point. More headlines for AMD, more visitors for review outlets. Win-win.
Regarding the card, it will probably be 10-15% slower than rtx2080, with some minor exceptions where it will tie it or even outperform it.
The price, even if high, is justified since we talking here about 7nm. nvidia didn't have the guts to go to 7nm, they went with 12nm which is cheaper and they still have to ask absurd amounts of money for their big rtx gpus. Also, HBM memory is stupidly expensive. AMD should have user gddr6 in consumer cards and hbm in hpc.
All in all, I don't expect this to be a success for AMD.

A GPU isn't a JPEG that can be resized in MS paint. This isn't a rebrand.

Nothing is resized Mr. Genius.
This is just an unplanned last minute product.

This card shares a heat dissipation flaw with the reference Nvidias.
The RADEON red letters and the two 8 pin power connectors block most of the exposed fins. On the opposite side the fins practically touch the motherboard and air exhaust is chocked.
A solution would have been to perforate the shroud around the fans.

@Jism @Vya Domus I think @M2B meant it's a rebranded MI50/MI60 .... which it is.

This is the comment which he first replied to about it being a rebrand:

Vega is not 7nm
Vega does not have 16GB of HBM2

This cost a lot of R&D dollars.

He was clearly referring to the original Vega, not the 7nm MI50/MI60. Unless of course, he didn't even knew exactly what he was talking about himself.

I was talking about R&D cost which he menthioned. Improve your reading skills instead of downvoting.

So I was right, you didn't even knew what you were talking about. I don't need to improve on anything. He was referring to the original Vega, and you said this was a rebrand, which is wrong.

I for one can't call you "mr genius", not even ironically. Also I downvote who I want.

I'll give you my last try. Read my comment 3 times, please:
He said Vega VII cost them a lot of R&D money, and I said no it's not the case because it's just a rebrand, I didn't say anything about originial vega nor my comment was related to original vega.

Which is also wrong. This is the same damn silicon, the R&D went into bringing this GPU to all segments, not just one.

Just how there was first a Quadro RTX 8000 using the same GPU that the 2080ti would later be based on. The R&D goes in everything, nothing is brought to a market for free.

This should have been your first comment, seems like you finally did understand.
Your argument is technically true, designing any new GPU costs money, but in my opinion it's not the same story as nvidia's RTX lineup.
I believe VII is a last minute product and Vega 20 silicon wasn't supposed to be a gaming focused silicon, I might be wrong though.

I like that there's a (probably defective) GPU bundled as something to show, but a fking battery case for those, really..? In fact I would like to have a small rechargeable battery what could charge with micro-usb like a phone.. but nope, it wants my Duracells.

The card looks cool tho (probably not literally), Nvidia has nice looks with their FE cards, mut this looks even better.
