well...
i thought that i will never play with a consolle... but price of everything in the PC worl has skyrocketed.
i remember when i bought core2duo e6400 on day 1... 187€ with a almost top of the line ga-x38-ds5 (another 180€) and a flashy brand new OC MSI 8800GT 512MB (220€) with a pari of Team Dark ddr2 1066 for 80€.
well today none of the entire pc will be enough to buy only a VGA (gtx2060) and the ram.
i know that 8800GT slapped down prices a lot (8800gts 640MB cost a looooot and 4870 too) but now the games are so poorly optimized that you need 8GB ram and a GTX1660/rx580 to play F-HD not counting on the storage side (with game tat take 60GB of space and win 10 another 30GB... well 512GB ssd is not so big)

if I have to play in the next 3 year i will take a consolle for sure :-(

Cry me a river. The only significant extra cost is the vid card. 90% of everything else you'll already have...b/c you want the PC. Tell me, what are you gonna do with locked 30 fps and nothing else? Lol

Also, all of the PC hardware except vid card will outlast a console generation. Yeah, really bad value there. Tell it to some other idiot that's scared of K/B mouse.

Cya, don't come back.

If PC gamers are rich enough to throw around $1000+ every few years, is it unreasonable to theorize that they are also able to shell out for a console alongside, not instead of a PC?

PC was a never a primarily gaming platform. It was a work platform that thrown enough money at it, could game. And game it did with less compromise.

From feeble excuse PC elitists often cite like uncapped fps and maximum resolution imaginable to real instances like esports, streaming, mod support, mmo, VR and simulation, PC gaming is here to stay; even if 20 million casuals move to consoles.

Agreed, consoles are idiot proof so very easy to work with them, no fuss no bsod/gsod and all problems linked to PCs so in near future 10-20 years from now i predict death of classic PC like we know it today, "goodbye my friend we had a good raid&fun" <--my words when time comes(If a am alive!).

Tell that to all the guys with YLOD/RROD etc...

We haven't had a panic about PC gaming dying in years. I guess we are due for another round of it.

I do think the high prices of Turing GPUs is a concern for a lot of PC gamers. Even midrange Turings are too expensive for a lot of people. That might have an effect on some people deciding to give up PC gaming and just buy a console.

It certainly has. We've been stuck with high prices for a while. High prices on Turing is one thing, and that mining shortage didn't help either. That said, you can find a respectible graphics card today for not a whole lot of money (GTX 1660, RX580).

well...

That has less to do with games being poorly optimized and more to do with tech advancing. Games demand more VRAM because textures are larger etc, and the more VRAM you have, the more the game will use because it precaches as much as it can. By the same token, games increase in required storage space as well. Both these statements hold true on consoles as well as PC. That point aside, we have had some high prices for sure, but today you can once again build a respectable gaming rig for not a whole lot of money.

Cry me a river. You think everyone has already a desktop at home and that no one uses a weak laptop for daily workflow usage? Tell me how can you pair a GPU with a 400€ i3 dual core laptop running with an Intel HD or a MX110? Did you ever check how much laptops outsell PC components? Because most PC users are not gamers, a PC is needed for a lot of stuff, not everyone buy gaming capable machines, in fact most don´t. So your logic is flawed.

Why would anyone switch to consoles? Consoles suck.

Plug and play experience for 200€-400€, enough performance for most gamers, no hackers on multiplayer games (specifically fighting and sports games), bigger playerbase on those same titles compared to PC, exclusive games.

Stop being elitist in 2019.

I honestly can't get used to using a pad again these days. I got myself a PS4 Pro just before Xmas just to play Last of Us, God of War, Bloodborne, Spiderman and RDR2. I reckon the PS5 or whatever it's going to be called will be out before I get close to finishing them. In the meantime I've probably put hundreds of hours in on various titles on PC, plus Christ knows how many hours tweaking just to get a few extra % performance.

TLDR: For me a console is a side distraction to the Main Event.

Not so sure about this doomsaying. The consoles are not serving a decade anymore, MS and Sony both have started to push out new consoles every few years (oh, almost like with buying new PC... xD), because they cant keep up with PC. The difference is getting blured in my opinion and consumers might start to dislike this, when the next XBox One X v.3.0 x comes out and they will feel like they have to upgrade, again.

Peddie is forgetting the fact that the PC gaming market is open (lots of indies) and tends to be cheaper (no guaranteed Nintendo/Sony/Microsoft tax).

Those market forces keep PC gamers on PC. For me to consider abandoning PC gaming would mean running out of games I want to play on Windows. Fat chance.

Imagine a world where the only options were Sony and Microsoft, and they both used AMD hardware.

One of the Earliest "Cloud Based Gaming services" was the Sega Channel.

A PC is a PC because of the storage drive and have, faster access to programs locally than remotely, this reminds me of the time before HDDs were being put in and computers were dummy nodes, seems we are not advancing but going retard.

well, not me... that's for sure ... i might get a console for some exclusives but not more ... (although not a single exclusive till today made me keep the previous consoles i owned ) :D

the lack of modding ... keep me away... well it's only for Skyrim mostly (and For fox sake ... 8 years... 8!) and World of Warships/Tanks (what? ... i love my custom skins ... )

Console makers would love to turn all gaming into the phone market. Want to play latest greatest game buy this years latest greatest console.

Pc gamers in general are the ones that spend what they can when they can and upgrade their gaming platform on their own. Like me I spend money when I can see a big improvement over what i have and the price is worth the upgrade. So one year upgrade gpu next upgrade cpu / mother board and than only add little things for a few years and than upgrade cycle again.
PCs also allow you to do what you want when you wantt based on what you are willing to learn.
Console is the corporate telling us what our gui should look like, What inputs we have to use when they allow us to use inputs they want us to use, How we should use our console (even when not gaming) and what CPU/GPU should be.
As Long as PC gamers have access to new computer software and hardware PC gaming will not die.

I don't know man, but I played several console games the past months and every time I get this sense of 'help! I'm stuck here'... no control over what you're really doing. Just insert disc and press play. I'm sure that is fine for many, but I like to be in control of my gaming. I even had that feeling when I played Sekiro: SDT on PC, literally felt like time had stood still since the PS2 in terms of how it felt and played. That goes for the audiovisual quality of it but also for its gameplay. Being able to use mods, adjust settings and make the experience 'mine' is a pretty big part of PC gaming. I made the switch back and forth between consoles and PC many times, but going back today really feels horrible. The PC is leaps and bounds ahead if you have a half-decent spec. A lot of that comes down to speed and responsiveness. I nearly fall asleep having to aim with a console controller's analog sticks. So annoying... and that is from someone who spent a good 300 hours in Oblivion and equally as much in Fallout 3 on PS3...

Its the part that all these new ventures to kill it fail to see: cloud, console, and even that failing UWP-game attempt all directly impact the control you have over content. When you play, what you play, and how you play. The funny thing is that console is actively trying to eliminate some of these problems too; by allowing indie developers on it, opening up the store/certification processes, being more like a PC in upgradability (we have 2 quality versions for current gen consoles already - and games that look/play horribly on the older version) and attempts at crossplatform and enabling more input devices. Doesn't really go places, yet.

At least on PC, if a game has shitty online requirements or DRM we can hack or avoid it. If the in-game voip is shit, we launch a discord server. If we dislike a bit of gameplay, we mod it away.

I think its clear why the larger powers in the industry want us on service models. Its more than just money. Its about controlling a revenue stream and audience. In that 'new' world we are not customers, we are slaves to a predetermined release schedule.

Hard pass.

the first console which has a web browser keyboard and mouse as standard a bit like the old amiga will be a huge seller
they also need to not be as strict with developers allow easy development for the console
can you imagine being able to do work on a console and then play games browse the web with the ease of a pc

and yes i know that you can buy these as 3rd party items but they need to bundle them with the console when they sell it
