NVIDIA Influencing YouTube Tech Journalists' Product-Placements, Alleges Whistleblower

It's YouTube's policy to disclose it.

It was just an example of what the whistleblower was describing. GN didn't like being used as the example so, btarunr elected to give no example instead. It's easy enough to find on your own. Literally takes less than a minute. NVIDIA merchandise in the background is *everywhere* on YouTube reviews. The whistleblower explains why that is too: this practice started back with Vega.
yep, that's why you used GN as an example of such pratice. They're about the only guys on yt who said the super line was meh.

I haven't seen the original TPU post but from what I gather GN was never explicitly mentioned in the title or the post itself, there was just the screenshot used as an example and not a direct accusation. Quite the disproportional response from GN for a bloody screenshot to start threatening with lawyers and whatnot.

Essentially what you are saying is that you are prohibited to accuse anyone of anything ever because you'll be threaded with legal action, the truth always comes second. Cool, that's a really nice way of suppressing freedom of speech.
well smearing channels left and right for clicks isn't cool or free speech either.

This has to be a joke, right?
No.
Steve from Gamer Nexus is biased.
He never corrects his mistake. He never clarified his mistake about 110°C Junction temperature. And to him only good case, fan and coolers are NZXT and Corsair.
Edit: Why so many Gamers Nexus defense force here???

The only problem I see with this is just this being used as news without researching and using a real source or two for confirmation beforehand like you're supposed to.
Things like that (pure unsubstantiated speculation) belong to WCCftech.

But then again most (the influenced) here seem to be outraged about their favourite "insert influencer name here" being slandered via picture association rather than worry about the lack of actual journalism associated with the article.

The only reason why GN came up at all is that they put up a video on RX 5700 XT 6 days ago. That's it. There was no malicious intent by btarunr nor myself.

so that's a reason ?

IMO Steve got angry and rightfully so.It's so easy these days to ruin reputation he earned with hard work. This is really shameful.

TPU worked hard for their reputation, would be devastating if people started smearing them for the work btanrur only does.

Not sure what you're asking. There was an attempt to verify the whistleblower's claims but that attempt didn't extend to contacting YouTubers which was a mistake. They should be contacted, asked for comment, and a follow up posted.

what am I even reading ?
this is pathetic.

It was rushed but that doesn't make the claims any less important.

do whatever you believe, but I'd rather your motto was first do no harm.

yes, that's why silverstone wins every case comparison.
He recomended Silversrone once whene I used to see his case review. But dont not he still recomends Silverstone??

Honestly i will doubt about TPU integrity ( or Btarunr to be more precise ) x1000000 times before even considering doubting GNs integrity !!!

Out of all Youtube tech-channels GN is the one that puts the most importance in ETHICS BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE and is the one that is never afraid to call out BS FROM ALL SIDES .

Seriously you have to be out of your mind to even remotely think that those guys are paid to do/say something that doesn't follow jurnalistic ethics !

That being said, the actual subject was nicely ignored for the most part I am afraid.

Corporations influencing YouTube Influencers, that's the way that market segment had been evolving for years. Why the surprise here?

What mistake about 110°C Junction temperature?
When you compair Junction temperature of one GPU to egde temperature of another GPU, it is wrong. He never clarified his mistake about it.
And if you don't know what is the difference Junction temperature and egde/gpu temperature than it useless to talk about it.

This thread reminds of the adage "if there is smoke". Anyone who has been in tech for any length of time should not be surprised by the content but veracity of this report. The same things were put back and forth about Intel vs AMD on Dell systems until Intel paid AMD to settle the matter out of court. The same thing could be said about some tech sites that I am not going to name that admitted that they were being paid by Company X to make their product seem better. The best though is I have a friend who works at a computer store. I remember asking him one day who they don't sell as many AMD based PCs and he responded with "Intel gives us deep discounts as employees to get their products". "That makes us recommend Intel when new customers come in because we have them in our home systems".

For something to be ignored it needs to exist to begin with !
At TechPowerUp have never experienced this ourselves, not for RX 5700 Series coverage, not for any other content. While NVIDIA does provide information and materials, we've never been told what we must or can not do.

So what subject are you talking about exactly ?

1. I can quit TPU and have no livelihood left. 2. I can kill myself (nobody has lulz over a dead person), or 3. Try to put my 12 years of experience and some 10,000 newsposts on the line, apologize to everyone (including you), and hope that life gives me a second chance to be better.
You're only real option is 1 at this point... your credibility is shot. You live and learn and sometime make mistakes, but the internet is a cruel mistress and very unforgiving.

GN was the only person who actually clarified what Junction Temperature is while most sites were putting out Clickbait articles like "AMD Says 110 Degrees C is fine for the GPU" implying it's the edge temperature.

Why do you assume that I don't know what junction temperature is? What boggles my mind is that none of TPU's reviews have any mentions of junction temperatures in them, only edge temperature. Ever looked into it?
He didnt clarified nothing. AMD did say junction/hotspot temperature when mentioning 110°C is fine.
Here is a written article : https://www.techpowerup.com/258228/...nd-within-spec-amd-on-rx-5700-series-thermals
And don't forget GN did singed Nvidia NDA.

come on its not fawking hard use your brain

if your primary source for something is an unverified Reddit post you probably should not post the story, and you sure as shit should not go around looking for evidence of a conspiracy by
searching though videos until something that lined up with his story was found that's not journalism (which is exactly what he did )

@FordGT90Concept come on man you would have a point if this was a one-off mistake but it's not he's been regurgitating unverified unvetted crap from Reddit for the last year or so

I don't know if bta is out of ideas, or if its because of the falling site traffic, smoking too much weed, I do know is its insanity to continue allowing it

Steve would have been well within his rights to sue tpu into the fking ground ya dodged a bullet and steve could still decide to sue, he has also irreparably damaged what little good name tpu has left

and yes I want his head on a bloody platter stuffed with an apple at this point this was complete and utter bullshit

and for the rest of the people jumping on the Nvidia hate train I am not discussing if this hearsay is true or not

Remember...this has naught to do with GN. It has to do with NVIDIA allegedly influencing YouTubers to have preferential product placements. As the whistleblower says, this isn't necessarily illegal but it is something people should be mindful of.

Okay, I have to ask. How do you know the whistleblower is a GN hater?
Maybe because he/she is a paid GN defender.

I don't think you've actually watched the video. And I have yet to see where he compared junction temperature to edge temperature.

I have yet to see a single TPU review that mentions junction temperature. Each and every review of AMD GPU GN has done since Radeon VII mentions both junction and edge temperature. I too have signed nvidia's NDA, like TPU has done. So, what's your point?
See what kind of people is hating this article and @btarunr , those who singed Nvidia NDA.

"To err is human, to forgive, divine." --Alexander Pope
Admitting errors and fixing is also important, and no famous quote can make things better. This is not the first clickbait on TPU, and some of the outright bullshit was never retracted.
I still remember straight lies that appeared in DRAM pricing news, where a misquoted post of a mis-translated article with untrustworthy retailer as a price source ended up in the news section (and as a result, blindly quoted by other resources worldwide). My in-depth global investigation that took nearly 5 minutres of my precious time wasn't enough to do any clarification or retraction - it's still listed in news... I don't think I even got a reply that time.

Regarding GN: Steve also has Radeon VII, some Ryzen boxes and AMD souvenirs on the backdrop, but it doesn't mean AMD is paying him to have a more noticeable viewing spot. And if they do - it's all balanced out. Thinking that reviewers don't profit from tech companies is naive, but jumping on a hate train for a couple of boxes on a back shelf is immature, to put it softly.

He ran a stupid Reddit post on tpu's front page, then only retracted it when he read how stupid tpy users think he was.
Real mature.
He's dragging the site down with his agenda.Prolly gets paid on a regular

That just doesnt make sense. This was bound to explode, I dont see how anyone woukd agree to reap these 'benefits'.

There are no winners here.

The only problem I see with this is just this being used as news without researching and using a real source or two for confirmation beforehand like you're supposed to.
