No more DVI ports on gpus?

Considering a gpu upgrade and noticed that you don't see dvi ports anymore on the graphic cards. Want to use a monitor I own that has 144 hz through the dvi port but would it still work with a dvi to hdmi adapter cable?

Thanks

Not likely with HDMI. If you can find a Displayport to dual link DVI adapter that says it supports 144hz it may work.

my 1660 super has a dvi. I actually used it to see if it explained a glitch on the card and it did. I am not sure if its subjective, but it seems the quality is slightly better than hdmi

I wasn't even aware you could get a 144hz monitor with DVI only and no HDMI or DP, out of curiousity what model is it?

Keep in mind that most adapters provide single-link DVI. For dual you need special ones, often needing additional power (via usb for example).
Old monitor will work on single link, but with limited resolution and/or frequency. If that's the only input it can achieve high RR, it would be better to sell it.

Even having hdmi doesn't mean it's a fully usable input. For example XL2411Z gets fhd@144Hz only on DVI.

Sell that panel while it has value cuz trying to get it to work with a powered adapter which is what you'd need will run 100 bucks and tbt, they suck and will have issues.

Well aware of HDMI to DVI convertors.....never heard of DP to DVI. Quick google search says yes if its single link DVI it can be passive, but what products ever used that?...any DVI monitor I had was always dual link and apparently needs an active adapter instead of passive.

I'd think using a HDMI to DVI cable or adapter would be better suited for the OP no?

In fact, I am using one right now....HDMI out of on board video to my 2nd aux monitor which is using the dual link DVI port on it. My main TV screen is powered by my dGPU RX 5700 XT via HDMI to HDMI

So got to get a new monitor..
Not really. Get a DVI to HDMI cable. They're inexpensive and easy.
Its a Benq XL2411Z
Yup, that'll do 144hz over HDMI to DVI, in various lengths;

Or you can get this one which comes nylon braided in 3', 6' and 10' lengths:

However, most GPU's these days have DisplayPort as the primary output and such cable are easy to use as well. The following also comes in various lengths;

Or there's something like the following;

You know I tried using an hdmi to dvi cable on a 5700 XT on that monitor and couldnt get 144hz. Perhaps the cable wasnt dual link.

no you won't get 144hz over any of those, most of'em say max in 1080p@60 in the discription
you need an active adaptor, passthrough cables like those are all single link.

Problem is with HDMI spec could be limited to 60hz. You would need to look at gpu and monitor manuals to find out if it will do 144hz. You can do HDMI to DVI yes but the 144hz is part that likely not gonna happen.

I think would need cable to support bandwidth to do it along with hdmi ports on both monitor and gpu that can as well but you are asking a lot but depends on age of the hardware.

I dont know about these active adapters. Remember back in the day I experimented with dp to dvi for multimonitor gaming and got flickering. Rather just get a direct dvi to dvi connection. Thanks.

i wish you luck on you next gpu then.
but according to them it should work fine.
first customer question..
"Good day, see that will be supported, we have test for example with the BenQ ZOWIE XL2411P monitor at got 144Hz at 1920x1080 running with no problem.
best regards, Club 3D support "

Well I found an Evga 2070 gpu I like and it has a DVI port but the seller is some no name place online I never heard of. Don't really need the upgrade anyhow. Just a little bored and got that itch. Really should wait as the 3070 line is around the corner. Thanks.

That would be incorrect. Refresh rates of up to 240hz are supported by each of those cables and adapters linked. All but one can do 4k. I have personally tested this with all but the Benfei adapter.

Haha, yea right. You have to live with that adapter where they just plug it in for a quick spin.

I love the DVI connector due it powerful mechanical construction.
ASUS thinks identically too, so we ended as soul mates, my next VGA card will be ASUS.

Don't quote me, but it seems unlikely that the RTX30xx series cards from ASUS will have DVI ports..

It does appear so, but ASUS never makes a single VGA model from its one GPU.

Pretty sure you can use HDMI to dvi cable and work just fine.
