Microsoft today surprised us with the Xbox Series S announcement. The Xbox Series S offers "next gen performance" and is the "smallest Xbox ever." The company promised to share more details, but when it goes on sale, it will cost just USD $299 (ERP). The announcement teaser had a pretty clear image of the finished product, revealing it to be barely more than two controllers in volume. A large fan intake makes up one of its side panels. It retains the general design of the larger Xbox Series X. Microsoft stated it will share more details about the new console.

This generation's launch has to be one of the stupidest ever, we sill haven't seen anything impressive running on these consoles, only trailers, at the very least they could've shown something like Forza at 4k120, at least we can feel there is a generational leap.

No, it obviously uses an Imp that has a bellow that he uses to blow on the chip when it gets too hot.

Ever heard of Passive Cooling?
How's your passively cooled PC working out for you?

So it's a gamepass machine. Good option for people on a budget but one step closer to killing physical copies.

Pricing for series x - $499 (this is based on windows central, which also dropped the $299 price tag before ms announcement).

Launches November 10th.

Xbox all access financing:
Series s - $25 a month
Series x - $35 a month

Looks like they will be pushing for large install base through the financing options.

They also revealed pricing for series x - $499.

Wow, so same price as the original Xbox One at launch. I expected them to be more expensive than the 2013 consoles, so that's good.
And XBox was the first to fire off, now we'll see what Sony responds with. If Sony can manage to undercut them here it would be huge. PS5 for $449 or even $399??? (speaking for the all-digital edition of course, the disk edition will be some amount more)
This is becoming a repeat of the 2013 launches..

How is $299 a stupid price? Seems like a nice price point for people on a low budget. Couple that with a Game Pass subscription and you have a ton of games available to you for not that much money.

Pricing for series x - $499
Is that official? Can't find anything about XSX pricing.

I can see why they ended the Xbox One X. The Series S most likely performs better than One X regardless of the GPU being 4TF and having less overall ram. If I get an Xbox this time around it'll be the Series S.

Not yet, but looks like windows central has a reliable source close to ms. I suppose official announcement will follow the series s.

Really looknig forward to some info on the SoC in this - should be a compact and efficient powerhouse if the rumored 4TF spec is correct. The value proposition of this console is also pretty darn fantastic. $300 for next-gen games at a likely 1080p render resolution (though it wouldn't surprise me if it had some sort of 4k upscaling), all in a tiny and sleek box? That definitely isn't bad at all. I'd still go for the whole-hog XSX, but I love the idea of tiered consoles on the same generation. And the 5nm (or 3, depending on how long they wait?) mid-generation refresh of this could get amazingly small - PS2 slim size?

$299 might take some potential sales away from the Switch or the rumored upgraded Switch next year(?) :pimp:

Have people already forgotten the mess global economy's in right now? And before you saw it'll get better, how about it'll get worse before it gets any better!

Can't wait for the specs. We've never had such a powerful console launch for $299. With game pass, pretty unbeatable. I really wish Nintendo would just copy it wholesale and release one of their own...

This generation is all about quality of life. I love it. High CPU speeds, high speed ram, high speed storage. It is good to not over focus on the GPU. Same thing Nintendo has been doing right.

Canadian government doubled spending in one year, that has never happened before anywhere. Now they need to cut spending in half in one year (the anti stimulus). It will get worse before it gets better. Can start by voting out the most irresponsible spender in 150 years, that is a start. Korea had the virus about as bad as Canada and yet increased spending by 1/6th as much.

I'll buy the Series S. Perfect for a game pass machine for the living room.

How much does that cost btw & do you get full "PC" games? If you're fixated just on the Switch or Nintendo games then it is for you, the rest of us can game pretty easily on a (decent) mobile phone ~ hey & you know what calling is a bonus feature :D

Yeah, Witcher, Skyrim, Doom and hundreds of other games aren't full pc games that made it to switch and can be played on the go in handheld mode.

Switch has its own target audience and it won't be undermined by a regular consol.
