A Christmas Miracle: 500,000 NVIDIA RTX 3080 Cards Found in Lost Shipping Container

This fools' joke is just capitalising on the fact that 3080 are highly desirable and unobtainable.

Realistically though, what is it that mandates a new GPU? CP2077 may be the hottest shit to slide off a shovel this year but it will run on an old RX480, GTX1060, entry-level 1650, and plenty of other common GPUs from the last five years.

The 3000-series is fast but if y'all stop getting sucked up in the hype for one hot damn minute you'll realise that there's no killer app. I'm lucky enough to have decent GPUs at home but a game is only as good as its level design, story, and mechanics. Whether you play it at 720p low or 4K ultra is of little consequence; The bugs are still bugs, the story is still the story, and the graphics are still going to get the art style across as long as there are enough pixels to see what you're doing.

If an ancient RX480 can manage 1080p60 low/medium and 1080p30 ultra even during action scenes, it's not exactly a disaster. 4K120 with raytracing is nice if you can dump $3000 on GPUs but those extra pixels really don't make the game itself any better.
Cbp2077 runs like shit on the cards you mentioned even on mid-low settings. That’s the problem. Although cbp looks quite ugly in my opinion to justify such terrible performance. Freaking 5 year old pc port of GTA V looks miles better than the crap CDPR managed to roll out after 7 years of development.

Doesn't look too bad to me. high settings at 35fps, Ultra at 30 on an RX580:

Runs better on Nvidia, in general - 1650S doing a fine job given that it's a budget card:

IMO the sweet spot for CP2077 on old or underpowered hardware is mostly low settings but shadows turned up to medium. The shadows make a big difference in this game so IMO 90% of the visual quality on medium comes from the improved shadows. Obviously quality is subjective and everyone will have their own preferences and limits but I don't think CP2077 looks bad on a sensible low/medium 1080p mix. 30fps without dropping frames at those settings should be available on everything I listed and more.

My brother-in-law's GTX970 is running about 35-50fps on low/medium custom settings at 1080p. That's a six-year-old card with 3.5GB VRAM and he can get 1080p60 on all-low (with a few dropped frames) or much higher settings. He has a 75Hz monitor so he's locked it to 38fps with vsync and honestly it feels great like that given the ancient card.

YMMV but I disagree that it "runs like shit". This isn't CS:GO, nobody is getting 700fps, not even with a pair of 3090s.

It really depends on what you consider acceptable. If 1080p/low/30fps does it for you than great. For me personally, and I stress the "personally" part, 1080p is a barely usable resolution even for working in spreadsheets, let alone playing games, and 30fps is just a bad experience. I played Cyberpunk on a 1080ti and, since I have a 3840x2160 screen, I could either play a blurry mess upscaled from 2560x1440, play in a window or 2160p/low/35fps, none of which is an optimal experience, and I actually consider it "running like shit". Today I got the 3080 and it's a day and night difference in the level of enjoyment.
Oh, the first world problems. Also, it's a nice throwback to the time I first saw Duke Nukem 3d running in 640x480 on a Trident card after playing it in 320x240 for months.

You must be great at parties.

When a front page news article has to be corrected by other publications, you know the joke went sideways somewhere down the line...

There's a difference between being corrected (which has no problem per se), and posting the "fool's joke" with an associated disclaimer.

what disclaimer? where?

She is the container, silly English people call things with human subject pronouns.
Really, no. It mainly applies to machinery, like major modes of transportation, such as ships always, planes sometimes, but not normally. In this case it is plain weird, because it is way outside of normal. If the container had still been onboard a ship, this “she” might make sense.

just google : spanish 28 december

and you will understand this post
"Geeknetic.es made this as a part of the Spanish Fool's Day, which is December 28th. However, considering the current state of the RTX (and AMD RX) market, this is a nice satirical gotcha which I'll keep on TPU. Let's laugh at our misery instead of wallowing in it."
It even says it under the post

Someone say it's not real photo. I ask myself: how many video card can they put in a box ? 10 ? So, haw many box are in this image ? Surely not 50.000

Full cards, more like 5. Boards, 10 is about right. This article is bs though. Pure fantasy.

Am I really supposed to believe that a company who suffers worse leaks than the Titanic was some how able to keep it quiet that 2/3 of their production went MIA in transit? Hard data on their 40xx series is already leaking. Yet they kept quiet on more than a quarter billion dollars in product vanishing?

Other sites have already reported this is false. Just like the Amazon Dist worker claiming inside knowledge, its a nice little fantasy. If you compare Nvidias production to AMD's, Nvidia is massively ahead in weekly and monthly units shipped. It seems very likely that we've actually seen them running at no less than full capacity for about 2 months.

Re read the Op, pay attention to the bit after the picture saying it's a joke.

Pity it's neither "nice" nor "satirical".
It's pathetic and should be removed.

It’s really the TARDIS. ;)
Oh just realized it's The Master's TARDIS...since his/her chameleon circuit works...nice joke master!
On another note I learned I need to be on guard Dec 28...and now I've got ideas for next year... evil laugh.

It runs like shit for a game that looks uglier than GTA V, which said 970 can run at very high at 60 fps.

That's a subjective opinion so I won't argue against it but I think a lot of people have nostalgia for GTA V.

I was very late to the party and played it at 4K only a year ago. For a 2015 port of a 2013 game I was impressed but it was starting to look dated compared to modern engines.

Yes, it's true that some areas of Night City aren't particularly detailed but you have to remember that parts of Los Santos look like phoned-in efforts too. It's all too easy to compare random uninmportant parts of Night City with your fondest memories of the prettiest, most carefully handcrafted scenes in GTAV, because those are the bits that stick in your mind, but go back and drive around Los Santos after playing CP2077 and you'll see that it really doesn't have the detail, the lighting, the poly count, or the textures to match it.

That's an interesting opinion. GTA5 has a lot of love from people. However, it should be said that a GTX 970 is not going to grant anything close to a good experience for CP2077 unless you run the game at 720p on mostly low settings. Your experience is less than stellar because you are running a brand new, high bar setting game on a mid-tier GPU that is 6 years old. That's not the fault of the game. You're in need of an upgrade, BIG TIME! Even an upgrade to a GTX1070 would dramatically improve your experience, though it would be best for you to come up to the RTX 2000 or 3000 series GPU's or RX 5000 or RX 6000 if you want to go AMD.

So it looks like we found the reason why gpus are so expensive, middle January 2021 prices back to normal I guess.
Nope!! Still over MSRP.... Scalpers bought em all. cuz site dont care they get their money they sell to whoever, scalpers, bots minners they dont care.. they just wan ttheir cash...

i just paid $1040 :( (+ shipping and tax) ($1100 USD) :( , for RX 6800 XT (coming today (YAY :) ) but mining farm just found in California USA, 73 GPUs Mining FARM, RTX 3080's (and AMD) ETH Mining farm, SAY GOOD BYE TO ALL THOSE 500,000 RXT 30 cards... to SCAL{PERS & MINNERS!!!!!! ANOTHER FUCKED UP YEAR!!!

Crytocoins market will crash very soon then you can buy gpus for less than msrp, just like 2018, need to be patient.

I have no idea why you think I run 970 (though I had one before 1080 in 2016 lol). I was stating that GTA V looks better than CB2077 being a much older game and running great on hardware (the guy mentioned 970) contemporary to its release unlike CB2077 yet again. Read again before responding to posts next time.

What is this Bull**it here, who is so dumb to fall for this nonsense??!!
LOST CONTEINER FOR SEVERAL MONTHS??!! FROM FU***G SUMSUNG THEMSELF AND I AM LITERALLY SCREAMING RIGHT NOW!
FROM SAAAMSUUUNG? They would say, "what is that? Our container is nowhere to be found? You find it today and tomorrow call us to say the shipping is in his destination master"
Are you falling for this idiocy?
We complaint for just a box of hardware in middle of Covi-sh*t times and max 2 months is at our door and Samsung + Nvidia lost their container well go f***k yourselves both Nvidia + Samsung + all the idiots falling for this

The fact that it was a joke was literally there.

Gotta look in the mirror on who you just insulted, dude. You're the one who fell for it.  :slap:

Heh, you weren't wrong, the crash seems to have started a couple of days after you posted this.

ETH and BTC both suffering their biggest drops in ages in a sudden snap reversal of their ridiculous growth rates. ETH in particular has lost 25% of its value in a week.
It's almost as if cryptocurrency is made up out of thin air and there are no countries, governments, legislation, or regulators to back up its value!
