Perhaps, although Ubisoft and some others are guilty of the same tactics even though it never bit them in the ass like it did CDPR.
Because CDPR effed up to a scale never before reached by the others. freaking fallout 76 never had as much of disastrous release as cyberpunk so bad that sony would pull the game from its store

I would consider Fallout 76 as having the same bad publicity, and reviews as Cyberpunk without the repercussions it should of deserved. Bethesda lucked out on not getting slapped like CDPR did.

Were you one of the 8 million gamers that pre-ordered Cyberpunk 2070? If you weren't then you waited until at least the game released and could know for sure what condition the game was in and could avoid buying it immediately.

I still haven't bought the game and I won't until the game is patched and polished. I do that with all games and since the Publishers make me wait anyway then I wait some more and catch the game on a really good sale.

I have been counseling gamers to stop pre-ordering for years and years now because it encourages Publishers to do what CDPR did. I doubt that I have ever made any difference though.

Is it too late to admit that I have been naughty, and pre-ordered some games? I know it sets a bad precedent for us consumers to the publishers.

Don't worry about it. I haven't seen you pre-order a game and complain about being cheated and then turn around and pre-order the next game. I have seen that behavior too many times over the years and it's bewildering. It's like sticking your hand in the fire and cursing the fire for burning you and then sticking your hand right back in the fire again.

I draw a line with pre-orders and day zero buys depending on my willingness to take the ride on a sucky game. And by that I mean, being on the ground to witness it. That can be its own experience. You get to see what people will only tell embellished and gleamed-over fables about. Buy the ticket, take the ride. And when you get the message, hang up the phone. Don't keep waiting for more, or yammering on. That's my attitude. Other people will just have different temperaments about it. I can be easy come, easy go. Or I can be going "Oohooohhhoooohooo... MURDER. DEATH. UNCOUNTABLE RETRIBUTION IS NEEDED FOR THIS GRIEVOUS INJUSTICE." Best part is.. it's always dumb shit that nobody cares about, but I can't ignore. So it's a nice, alienating feeling when everyone either ignores me or downplays it like it's irrelevant because it's not a big deal for them. Generalizing across the greater gamerspace here. Not callin anyone out, just sayin! It really be like that out here.

So I get it. Prefer the former over the latter when I can manage it, though lol

Cyberpunk was one where I knew it could be very good and/or very bad. I knew I wasn't getting anything I could imagine. So I tried not to imagine and let my curiosity be the main point of entry. And I had a greahhht fukken time, when both taking it seriously and not.

Still extremely dubious of CDPR. I'm sorry, man. Too much. Too much... I can't resonably keep remotely the same standard for them. They need to do it right first. And be fair and honest. Calling a lot of things 'mistakes' is being incredibly charitable. They're getting roasted because people expected better from them. Other studios don't get it as bad because the bar was already lower in their cases. Whereas here, CDPR boosted the signal to Jupiter, and the community surrounding them took it beyond Pluto.

Let this be a lesson in expectations. For players and marketers alike. I think that's the silver lining. This is impactful. I have zero doubts that the needle tipped... at least a little. You see it. You feel it inside of you as you look out at the landscape.

Since yall are mentioning 76... I have 3 bethesda titles in my list of absolute favorite game experiences... and I passed on 76 completely. Just didn't care to even know about it. I drew a line on the kind of crap I would put up with, and couldn't trust 76 to not cross it in a bunch of ways just on the premise and what I understand them to be capable of.

Fallout 76 was a bad idea in concept. It should have been scrapped before it was even began. Instead Bethesda kept pushing it and patching it. The modding community couldn't save Bethesda this time even if they wanted to because Fallout 76 was an online game and too difficult to mod. The game was basically soulless and boring. Hopefully Bethesda will learn something from this.

Agreed. I KNOW they have amazing, highly driven and creative people on their teams, who can execute on ideas that make their games like nothing else. Just, the details they put in that they know few will see... the way they layout environments. I know that a lot of thought goes into the actual building of the worlds... the conceiving of them. It's what I most appreciate them for. 76 even shows some of that, though there's a continued decline there as they go further into hitting beats repetitiously with their core assets. I'm looking at FO4 now... going back to 3 I saw the SAME branchy trees. THE SAME ASSETS. And then looked at the rest and so much was the same, exact textures and assets. I can't be convinced they aren't. Way too close for coincidence. They re-use so many with just color changes, maybe paint on some more detail. It's literally a fresh coat. 76 was also more of the same, with some more tweaks and maybe quality improvements.

But yes... the core game concept was an awful one that they had no clue what to do with and clearly little depth for improving on. And yes... you can't mod the shit. Give me 76, let me gut it and freak its mind. I'd play it for sure. They made some changes to the engine that make me think it could look worlds better than the best FO4 mod setup and you could do some fun things with a lot of the weapons and general mechanics. It has potential.

I don't know if they understood how important that is for them. I know not everybody mods, but it's still basically the lifeblood of their franchises. I get the impression from... just all of their decisions, going back, that they've never appreciated it. Or maybe they just don't want to be in that box. The problem is... a lot of growth would need to happen for them to exist without that umbilical. Technical growth. And also just pursuing more modern game design standards. The mechanics and visuals are still terribly dated, and it takes away more and more from each title. You neglect modding at the same time and you just don't have it anymore. Not for me, or a lot of people. It really is a self-inflicted pincer. Year by year, modding becomes harder and at the same time, they do not grow nearly enough to make up for that, especially for how long they spend not releasing anything new. I'm fine if it becomes more restricted... if only they'd pick up the slack with a game that really looks and plays well out of the box.

That was the other thing that got them. It had already been years since a new title, with major ones teased. Ending that streak with fucking 76 was HILARIOUSLY cruel and tone-deaf to everything fans have been begging and later, shouting for. They just really know how to tell their biggest supporters to kick rocks.

They deserve to be bashed, rightfully so, they over promised then under delivered, and lied about the state of the game, they put strict embargoes not to show other than their own gameplay on Review trying to gaslight consumers to maximizing launch sales, they rushed the game for holiday sales to please Investors and share holders instead of being honest to their audience , ect,ect....
And for such a narrow minded baseless attack, so do you.

CDPR works hard to stand up for things that are good and right, which is why certain people feel the need to attack them from every angle. Of course, that only makes the attackers look like clueless agenda seekers...

And before you claim that you're "only calling it as it really is", no you're not. You and others are twisting facts and information to suit your narrative.

Do us all a favor, take your whiny nonsense somewhere else. This thread is about "OFFICIAL Cyberpunk 2077 Game Discussion" NOT CDPR bashing.

If I remember right, Cyberpunk was pulled from the PS store because it runs like crap on the PS4, and not because it's a bad game.

They deserve to be bashed, rightfully so, they over promised then under delivered, and lied about the state of the game, they put strict embargoes not to show other than their own gameplay on Review trying to gaslight consumers to maximizing launch sales, they rushed the game for holiday sales to please Investors and share holders instead of being honest to their audience , ect,ect....

even when its fixed, its a shell of all the fake unrealistic goals that they kept promising and wouldn't shut Up about.
What gives you the right to decide who deserves what? I'm not defending CDPR, just asking.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but all this CDPR-bashing sounds like it's coming from people who bought into all the marketing crap that every game developer pulls before release, and pre-ordered the game. I honestly think pre-ordering is stupid, and I always take trailers with a huge grain of salt because they never look anything like the game. Most trailers aren't footages of the games in question, just rendered videos. Even gameplay trailers usually showcase (pre-)alpha versions that are not representative of the final product in any way. As for Cyberpunk, I bought the game way after launch and started playing version 1.2, and wasn't disappointed. Of course it's not a perfect game, but if you don't even expect it to be, you'll have fun playing it.

If you don't like the game, don't play it. There's no need to try to convince others that it's an objectively bad game, because it's not. Everybody can try it out, and decide for themselves, don't you think? If you fail to look through its weak spots, that's your problem, and you have every right to ask for a refund.

Do us all a favor, take your whiny nonsense somewhere else. This thread is about "OFFICIAL Cyberpunk 2077 Game Discussion" NOT CDPR bashing.
This!
Can we actually talk about the game, and not CDPR? Its disastrous release happened half a year ago, yet some people just can't get over it.

I guess gamers demanding for the DLC which CDPR promised is being too greedy at this point  .
Future prospect of CP2077 is looking very bleek atm, shame that PC gamers can't enjoy this game more than they already did because CDPR just couldn't let the console cash grab go.
Well let hope CDPR won't bite off more than they can chew with their next game, I'm perfectly fine if they just release their next game on console then PC a few years later, just make the game as good as they posibly can.

Whilst you're perfectly within your rights to critique a game you've never played, I know for a fact that you'll find Cyberpunk to be both patched and polished as of today's date.
I know this because I bought the game, so once you've made that move, you should be able to critique the game from a position of strength.

But I haven't critiqued the game. You might be thinking about my comments on Fallout 76. I didn't buy that game and didn't need to to know it was a turd.

Patch 1.2 did a lot to fix the bugs in Cyberpunk. Almost 500 fixes. I will still wait a while longer though. I'm busy reducing my enormous backlog and I'm having a hell of a lot of fun with old games. I would like to have a better GPU when I play Cyberpunk anyway.

Reviewers saying that it's a turd, gamers saying that it's a turd, and you judging for yourself whether it's a turd or not are completely different things.

If you have a 2070 Super like it's indicated in your profile, you're fully set to play the latest version (maybe with low ray tracing, but still). Old games can be a lot of fun too, though. :)

I disagree that I have to buy the game and play it to know whether or not Fallout 76 was a turd but that's just my opinion.

As far as GPUs go for Cyberpunk I'm just going by the review done here:

On a game like this I want highest settings and 60 FPS average. I'm not really concerned with RT for now.

With DLSS Quality mode you would easily get +70FPS at 1440p Ultra with a 2070Super, at 1440p High Settings + RT Reflections you would still get 60FPS, totally worthy playing on a 2070 Super.

That opinion has no merit. CP2077 is still selling well and is CDPR's best selling game to date. They have made a mountain of money from it, despite the less than stellar launch.

Keep in mind, the game still looks great even on a mix of Medium and High at 1080p which will make for very acceptable framerates on older machines/GPUs.

1080P all high settings with a RX6800 and I get ~137fps avg , RT on though makes a big difference in fps it blows its ass down to ~55fps looks ok but I'm not really standing round often enough to notice it

On this point we disagree.

I tried playing skyrim the other day at 60 fps. made me want to gag. i need NEED 165 fps 165hz in all my games now... the smoothness is just so immersive to me. and ray tracing hinders that for me. luckily we game on PC. so you can turn on RT and I can turn it off. so everyone wins

ye ray tracing is overrated. always has been

It's only implemented in small ways right now. What we have is a mixture of rasterization and RT. That's why I don't have a lot of interest in RT right now but I do think it will be the future of gaming eventually.

all well and good. if they manage to make it so i can game at 165hz 165 fps, i'll be more than happy to enable it or its future iterations, otherwise its an automatic no for me.

And that's your real problem, framerates. RTRT is an excellent effect. When you get a card that can actually do RTRT it will not be an issue. A GTX1070 simply does not qualify in that area.

As someone who still remembers growing up with a 300 MHz Celeron MMX and an S3 ViRGE GX/DX 3D accelerator decelerator (I used that system for 6 years which was a very long time back then), comments like yours puzzle me. Or maybe I'm just too slow to notice the difference even between 40 and 60 fps. :ohwell:
