Microsoft Clears Way for Windows 11: Windows 10 Support to End October 14th, 2025

Not a single other launcher has to be maximized to launch a game. I know this because I don’t like them maximized.

Odd, Epic games and Origin open to the library every time I launch something.

MJD did a review of Windows 11;

IMO, it looks a lot better than anything 8/8.1/10 has to offer. Dark mode is built-in and not an afterthought. Looks like the Control Panel is not going anywhere as it is present.

So far, really liking what I'm seeing and might just go all in if the telemetry and privacy are manageable and the crap I don't want can be removed...

I like Windows (I jumped ship from the Mac when they glued things shut), but what I see so far seems just eye candy.

Now I'm all for looks, but when it comes to form over function, I pick function.

Right there with you. MJD did show that the control panel is still present, which might mean that Microsoft has pulled their from their backsides, have listened to us power-users/enthusiasts about the continued need for fine-grains controls and configurations and have decided to restore them and even expand upon them.

However, to me, the looks count too. That is part of what made 7 so excellent. Windows 7 had excellent functionality AND a very stylish, beautiful UI experience. If Microsoft has restored fine-grained functionality and controls and have made the UI refined and beautiful, Windows 11 will be a winner. We have been given a promising glimpse of what's to come. Full reviews will tell the more complete tale.

System requirement are janky.
4GB RAM, which is easily met, but also TPM 2.0 and SecureBoot. Microsoft can go eff themselves with those two requirements.

If it BSOD on my this time I think I know another way

Yeah I hope cloning will work. Says 49min <that's coming off a class 10 Micro SD CARD Transend Adapter plugged in a USB 2.0 port> eh the things I do for technology :slap:

Me going to Bed guy's. I'll keep it going it's half way through

Ok I'm in but I don't see anything about "Rounded Edges" [I see them now]

OK so even watching a current Linus video he too was having issues like I but But all I had to do was reboot "yes I had an error after it finished" but as soon as I select the drive it automatically repaired and yes I'm in now

Linus went the route of virtual machine BS

Stay on topic and the topic is... "Microsoft Clears Way for Windows 11: Windows 10 Support to End October 14th, 2025"

Not a discussion on the installation of Windows and the problems.
Make your own thread on that topic.

Thank You and Have a Good Day.

idc, the SAME os lol.

That's an opinion.

Love it! Wonderful! Now tell us all how you achieved this?

YES, THIS! Microsoft has their heads up their bum too far to do something intelligent like this, but we can wish...
I have a script I run after OS install, it copies the applets to the location I want (inside program files) and a registry file that imports the entries necessary to add to control panel, I dont mind posting both of these as an attachment to help others, they can then edit these files as they see fit to put what they want in the control panel.

Actually i just attached the Reg file as that what adds the icons, but you will need to put programs in place at locations you specify in the reg file, a few applets have an icon override set as well as they dont come with one on the executable.

I also hid some icons as well which are there by default which you can do inside group policy.

Not as bad as I thought would be, I am too ok with rounded corners, I like the maximise snap feature, and am ok with new start menu.

The new terminal app is very nice.

I hope the icons on taskbar can be made smaller though and I hope I will still be able to use quick launch.

Why announce an end-of-support date for W10 before W11 is even out? It just seems so pushy, like saying "move along, we don't want you using our old product, please buy our new one as soon as it comes out". :shadedshu:
huh? i bet you replace your phone every 1-3 years lot of bad money ppl every 1-2 how is a 4 year notice on a old os bad???? 9 years is a long time fyi so 4-9 phones timeline for millions of ppl and im super condfused "as soon as it comes out" how is over 1200 days as soon as it comes out???

Ugh, Win10 is still a mess yet they try to release another one... My home PC still works on Win7, however I know that with new hardware, new OS will also come in.

(un)luckily can't get a GPU, so "new PC-shopping" is moved to the unspecified future. :p:D
how is it? ive had 0 issues maybe im a rare case but 10 has been amazing and efficient for me... what hot mess issues are you referring to but not referring to anything yet you commented but didnt list anything.

First of all, my disappointment in Microsoft stems from their action of announcing a support end date for W10 before releasing W11. It's not like I expect them to keep W10 going forever. I just found it weird for them to state W10's end of support date when W10 is the only OS lineup that they currently offer.

Second, nice try with the phone example for assuming that I replace my phone every 1-3 years... My current phone is an HTC Desire 510, and I've been using it since 2014. Now tell me, how old is your phone?

Will there be anymore feature updates to Windows 10? Has there been any word about that?
