This usually indicates that the hardware setup (GPUs & MoBo) isn't capable of running SLI (for various reasons, hard to pinpoint).
All that DifferentSLIauto does is enabling that button for you. Whatever happens after you select it, is at the mercy of the driver itself, so there are simply instances where SLIing fails (this happens sometimes even with textbook GPU/MoBo setups, which are supposed to work with SLI without using a patched driver).

I forgot to clarify, one video card is 2GB, and the other is 1GB, Palit and Gigabyte brands, both video cards have Samsung memory, and in the control panel, when the "Vertical Synchronization Pulse" parameter is changed, the panel freezes and the driver turns off, the second monitor stops working, and exclamation marks appear in the device manager opposite the video cards. If I understand you correctly, the motherboard can not properly merge the video cards, and this can not be solved in any way.

It means that as soon as you have the "Maximize 3D performance" button, the driver allows the use of SLI.
If the driver crashes after activating it, there must be some incompatibility in the hardware, which cannot be resolved in the software.

Sorry, I won't do that.
Depending on the hardware setup, using this patch has a significant chance of not working successfully and in that case all you can do is trying to repeat the installation using different drivers until you run out of ideas. That is very time consuming and in the end you might not even get a successful result. So this is a job where I can only lose... :(

So if you're technically savvy enough to understand the instructions and happen to be successful with this patch without much hassle then everything's fine, but there's no point in trying the hard way.
You're much better off by selling the two 980ti and buying a 1080ti or 2070S for that money anyways.

Remember this is an unofficial hack - there are no guarantees it can even work with your hardware

Hope this helps:

Below is a comprehensive list of what was needed to get SLI running on a non SLI mainboard. Nvidia has moved away from this technology but I still enjoy it and use it. Per the author of this software, Ember, it will enable different specification Nvidia cards run in SLI and even non SLI mainboards to support SLI.

This instruction is targeted at using differentsliauto to enable SLI on a non SLI motherboard but it captures the hardware id as part of the patch so it should enable SLI with two different specification cards. I make no reference to what cards will work together or what card spec is needed to enable that feature.

Notes: Tested on a Lenovo D30 Dual CPU mainboard rev.2.0 with 128gb ddr3 1866mhz registered ECC memory, two Nvidia GTX 690 GPU's and two Intel E5-2697v2 CPU's to enable multi CPU / GPU and quad SLI support without an Nvidia approved SLI motherboard. SLI did not work on this motherboard prior to this instruction without Quadro cards installed per Lenovo and Nvidia very vague specification. No further testing was done as this procedure must be totally redone to change video cards even when replacing a bad card for the same exact specific card, If you change to a different card it will have a different hardware id and you will need to undo step 11 and redo this instruction steps 3-11 as the patched driver will no longer load.

1. Go to the internet and search for NVidia driver (364.51) or previous for your version of windows. I use windows 10. I used NVidia version 364.51 driver because it works well with the latest build of windows 10 as of 7/25/21 and differentsliauto 1.4 Readme document spells out this driver. I have not seen a significant difference or major advantage to using newer Nvidia drivers for any of my cards.

2. Download differentsliauto 1.4 version. See: https://www.philscomputerlab.com/sli-on-chinese-x58-and-x79-motherboards.html . All original links to this software appear dead.

3. Use 7Zip or WinRAR or equivalent. Unpack differentsliauto 1.4 to a folder of your choice (c:\junk for example).

4. Make sure you have your video cards all installed the way you like and working properly with the SLI bridge present before installing the NVidia drivers as they cannot be changed again past this point.

5. Install NVidia drivers. Once the official drivers are installed with no errors and the installer has finished, reboot.

6. Find the nvlddmkm.sys driver c:/windows/system 32/ and copy/paste into the same folder you unpacked differentsliauto 1.4 to, disable user account control (UAC) and then patch the nvlddmkm.sys driver using differentsliauto.exe, elevated as an administrator.

7. Run the 'Install.cmd' file from an elevated administrator prompt and it should say 'success!' in green text at the bottom of the window if there were no errors and tell you to reboot. Windows test signing is turned on automatically, if not windows test signing must be turned on then reboot your computer in safe mode.

8. In safe mode, overwrite the patched nvlddmkm.sys file from the differentsliauto 1.4 folder into c:/windows/system 32/drivers

9. Reboot to windows normally, windows test mode signing should remain on and the patched driver will install. Test signing must always remain on as the patched driver is not part of the original NVidia software or drivers. This situation was not corrected during this instruction or testing but does not appear to pose a problem.

10. After reboot go to your NVidia control panel and activate SLI. It is necessary to end task on several apps in task manager before you can enable SLI in Nvidia control panel. Turn back on UAC if you wish and enjoy!

11. Recommendation to capture your hardware id's for each video card from device manager and enable Block Driver installations in Windows for that particular device installation for specific device id in computer configuration to stop unwanted windows 10 driver updates and overrides. See: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.gh...-installing-drivers-for-specific-devices/?amp . I also turn off windows updates. See: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-stop-updates-installing-automatically-windows-10?amp .

Recommendation to use a backup program such as Ghost or Macrium to make a backup of your hard drive after completing the SLI enable feature in this instruction. A backup could be useful throughout this instruction or at each step as well.

Thank you to the writer of this program Ember- differentsliauto 1.4. Thanks to all that made this possible and thanks to those that have kept this software alive on the web.

Different SLI [AUTO] - SLI for different cards.

What is it?

DifferentSLIAuto is a small, free tool that allows you to pair together different GPUs of similar generation/architecture to work together in SLI*
It can also enable SLI on some non SLI/Crossfire compatible motherboards, making it a replacement for the now discontinued HyperSLI program**

*
Mixing different VRAM sizes may cause some instability or stop SLI from functioning properly.
**The use of SLI on non multi-GPU motherboards is not guaranteed.

Before you get started, you will want to check compatibility based on architecture.
In your Windows device manager. Right click on your display adapter and go to properties. Switch to the "Details" tab, and in the combo box select "Hardware Ids."
The first three numbers following "DEV" must match for the cards to work together.

As an example :

NVIDIA_DEV.1185.098A.10DE = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660"
NVIDIA_DEV.1185.106F.10DE = "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760

The following is a list of current and some past Nvidia cards.

Windows 10 note provided by TPU member:
(Please understand that currently we haven't any one to test this to confirm their findings. If you use Windows 10 and these types of cards with success, report in and we can take away this notification).

"NVIDIA cards have two separate (and incompatible) classes/model versions. Although they may have worked together in previous versions of windows, they will not work in Windows 10. Fermi class cards, which means all 500 and below and some 600 series cards cannot be used in Windows 10 with Maxwell class cards - some 600 and all 700 series cards and up. Windows 10 will not load Fermi and Maxwell drivers at the same time.

Please see this page for details: http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answ...dia-display-driver-for-my-older-graphics-card

This is not an issue with Different SLI. This is not necessarily an issue with NVIDIA drivers. This is an issue with Windows 10 not being able to load WDDM 1.3 mode drivers and WDDM 2.0 mode drivers simultaneously. It won't even work with Microsoft's native drivers. I was really disappointed when I followed all instructions and everything seemed to be working until I looked at device manager and saw the driver for my second card wouldn't load. Sadly, I'll have to forgo using different sli until my husband upgrades his GPU again. Good luck to all."

See: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.ghacks.net/2017/06/03/stop-windows-from-installing-drivers-for-specific-devices/?amp .

These instructions you were using from Lord_Hades are for a very old install (DifferentSLIauto 1.4 which is a match only for a very old nVidia driver).
Go back one page in this forum and you'll find a summary I wrote about the current options regarding DifferentSLIauto.

Currently have 2x 2070s and 2x 2080s. I am trying to enable the SLI option since I want to be able to use NVLink but the motherboard I am using does not have SLI support. I'm trying to do this in order to be able to use the increased memory feature of NVLink for rendering 3D projects that require more VRAM than a single card can handle. I have tried to set this up but my version of Windows 10 does not support the old drivers needed for DifferentSLIAuto. Is my only option to revert to an older version of Windows and then try again? I was hoping to keep the drivers I am currently using as it's needed for NVIDIA Omniverse. Would anyone know if there is a simpler workaround if I was to use Linux (Ubuntu)?

Edit: Currently using 472.12 and Omniverse requires at least 471.41. So any driver between those would work. I saw somewhere that FreeSLI could be used to generate a patched version of the latest drivers. Is there a way to implement that in order to get this working?

Can't help you regarding your quite specific problem; I only know so much that even a patched 4xx driver will not SLI different cards, not even those from the same microarchitecture. They need to be absolutely identical (as per nVidia's SLI specs).
Also IDK whether FreeSLI still works with more recent drivers; it hasn't been updated for more than a year.

Hi,

i have tested it:
Only the variant with patching Hex Editor works for me. With DifferentSLIAuto1.7.1-win10 goes unfortunately not to patch in Win10 LTSC(error message: "Could not find patch #4"!).
At least not with me. I had the following driver 446.14

This Steps:

1. Install original Nvidia Driver.
2. Download DifferentSLIAutoLoader from Github and extract it.
3. Copy nvlddmkm.sys from System32 to DifferentSLIAuto patch folder.
4. Patch nvlddmkm.sys with DifferentSLIAuto.exe!!(that works not!!! At least not with me). or

HexEditor(It works!!! Hexeditor open nvlddmkm.sys load / Search String in nvlddmkm.sys "84 C0 75 05 0F BA 6B" replace with "C7 43 24 00 00 00 00")

5. Boot into safe mode.
6. Change the driver in System32 to the modified one.
7. Reboot computer.
8. Go to DifferetnSLIAutoLoader folder and run DifferentSLIAutoTools.exe.
9. Click "Load driver" button.
10. Go to Nvidia Control Panel and turn on SLI.
11. Go back to DifferentSLIAutoTools and click "Re-enable DSE" button.
12. Find Install script in DifferentSLIAutoLoader folder and run it as Admin.
13. Success!

DifferentSLIAutoLoader will start on every boot and load unsigned driver.

It works for me and thanks Statelo for his Job!!!
Hello,

I tried to use this method, but when I go to step 8, DifferentSLIAutoLoader gets a BSOD
in Windows 10 Pro. (screenshot adjunted)
If I install nvlddmkm.sys with DifferentSLIAuto no errors but no SLI option does not
appear in Nvidia Control Panel.

Could you help me?

Best Regards,

Usually, a BSOD in conjunction with DifferentSLIauto points to GPUs incompatible for SLIing.
Strange that the error you got occurs within the driver of Virtual Box.

Hello,

These are 2 x NVIDIA Geforce Titan Black 6 GB edition in SLI, I think they are compatible, or not?

They should, yes.
You can test whether the BSOD occurs also with only one of the cards installed.
If there's no BSOD, then it's probably incompatible cards.
If there's a BSOD too, then there's something wrong with the way DifferentSLIAuto has been patched/installed.

I can't help you with the DifferentSLIAutoLoader method; my knowledge is with the classical method, of which I wrote a summary on the previous page of this thread.

Hello,

These are 2 x NVIDIA Geforce Titan Black 6 GB edition in SLI, I think they are compatible, or not?

Best Regards,
They should be as they're practically identical. Does your motherboard support SLI?
