Well, the card is a 5700 in performance while costing a small fortune ($660 CAD after taxes at a retailer). I paid same price for a RTX 3060.

I guess if it was about $400 CAD then it would be a better buy for sure.
Doesn't it perform the same as the 3060 (except for RT)?

I completely agree that current prices are garbage, but that's universal. IMO, both the 6600 and 3060 are $300 or below GPUs.

FTFY :)
I don't see a way out of this mess. Not even in 2022. Maybe in 2023 and only if Etherum 2.0 or whatever it will be called rolls out. And Intel, AMD and Nvidia pump up their GPU yield. Then maybe we will see a price drop to MSRP + 25-50%. Because ATM the prices are MSRP +100-125% where i live.

I live where you live, and holy hell, yeah, even in normal times there is price gouging here, when I think back at getting my 6800xt at basically MSRP, I suddenly realize the amount of good will the universe bestowed upon me

What happened to your 6800? :)

i sold my desktop pc awhile ago. at the time i didn't care really, cause i thought my life was going to go in a different trajectory of new friends, going out more, etc. turned out not to be the case as most humans on this planet are bs.

i guess gaming is all there is, game, read, then die of old age. neat times we live in.

It's a tad bit slower than 3060 but also doesn't have same features as you said. While RT is pointless for most part on 3060, mixed with DLSS, it can be playable.
Plus if one likes video editing, it's better too.

Yes, both are poor value. Im curious what 3050's will be.

Nah, I was commenting on what they actually are, not what Nvidia and AMD want them to be and are forcing people to consider them as. They are $300-or-below GPUs, but they are sold and marketed as something more than that (and scalpers and unscrupulous distributors and retailers make them something like 2x that, of course).

If the mobile 3050 series is anything to go by, unimpressive, sadly. At least the 6600 has efficiency going for it, which might make the 6500 a 75W card and open the door for slot powered and even low profile versions. (Of course they could make the 3050 that low power as well, but it would be very slow.)

I just picked one up.

It isn't a good card by any measure. It isn't worth the price and I actually regret the purchase.
Can you not just return it and get your money back? What make model you get?

I have undervolted further my 6700xt with 2200mhz core clock no vram frequency touched and -1 on power slider

the card is drawing between 75 and 100W max as reported in HWinfo

this is amazing as I am using this on a 720p plasma TV with VSR ON in Radeon drivers to achieve 1440p resolution
I play sim racing titles with all graphics maxed out and SOL plus CSP mod in Assetto Corsa so I can’t be happier

remember I come from 1080ti and Vega64. and in similar condition I was drawing between 150 and 200w so it’s really great

yes I paid $700 for the card but it was only $100 added to what I got from my 1080ti sale so I would not complain here

I did something similar with my 6800xt since after playing along with overclocking the card, I decided I don't need it in anything I play, so went also to 2200mhz (lower wont work for some reason), and now it barely goes over 100w if I keep it locked at 60hz, and around 150w if I stick to the 100hz of my monitor. Its amazing how these cards can be so super energy efficient if you downclock them a little bit.

My whole PC now uses somewhere around 240w, that's basically console power usage, for a much more powerful system. It would use even less if not for the water pump and the 6 fans

exactly my thoughts and drivers here. The only scenario where the GPU is at default, not even a slight overclock, is when I switch Gaming to my triples 1080p 75Hz rig that is driven by the same PC in the room

but for whatever reasons it happens less and less these days

I even push the envelop to undervolt my Ryzen CPU and most of time even gaming with Windows Power saver mode on while managing to maintain the 60fps locked I need in my Games

I am sure my whole PC would draw much less than 200W overall doing so, and its mega mega quiet even with 5Fans in it (I am using a CPU AIO) despite my case being flagged as a bad airflow/noisy one (MasterCooler Q300L) which is absolutely not true at all by the way
GPU barely reach 50degC (which is maybe 2-3degC more than with my Hybrids 1080Ti and VEGA LC) and CPU around 45degC at its highest

Just Amazing!
So Amazing that I am still at the PS3 Console Generation sitting in the living room and its taking dust lol)

Totally agree, there is a mental thing going on in most of us hardware enthusiasts to push thing to their absolute max, but with some small exceptions, that is just a waste of electrical energy
I pushed my whole system to the absolute limit, it was lots of fun, especially the 6800XT, I was and am still amazed of how much this card can push, but realistically for 95% of games I play, I barely need half of its power, hence the low power tuning. Good to know that if games come in the future that need to use it fully, there is a reserve there, and with how the GPU market is going, my card will live a long life in my system.

And yeah, one major change with this low power setup is the absolute quiet that it brings, I tuned all my fans down, pump down, simply because at ~200w (CPU+GPU) the heat produced is so low that even with fans at 25% and lower it still stays super cool, CPU barely reaches 55c, and for a 5800x that is notoriously hot, that's very cool, and the 6800xt almost never touches 40c.

Just out of curiosity what core voltage did you set your 2.2ghz clock at?
1020mv, any lower, as with the 2200mhz core clock, and it would crash the driver. I know it could go lower, I suspect its a driver limitation or bug, since it can run 2700mhz at 1040mv 24/7.

thanks, that's helpful

this is where mine sits and I also believe it could go a bit lower. will do some more testing soon when time permits

This is mine, one difference vs yours is that I set a 1800mhz min frequency because I noticed that in some less graphically intensive games, mainly older ones, a 500mhz frequency can cause very erratic framerates, as in the GPU tends to fluctuate a lot between 500 and 2200mhz in some old games where load is very low, and power draw does not differ much anyway if set at 1800 vs 500mhz for min limit.

Fair point here
I play modern titles with GPU load always above 80%!so I didn’t feel the need to set min core

but I will definitely revisit the core voltage

curious how you ended up with -6% on power slider?
Any real life impact from your experience?

thanks a lot

-6% on power slider because the normal PPT (package power) limit is 255w, so with -6% its 239w max, it its still double that what the GPU uses mostly with these settings, and it is the lowest I can go.
As for real life impact for the -6%, no, as said, its just the upper wattage limit the GPU can use, but with 2200mhz max and 1020mv it uses between 80w and 180w, still under the PPT limit.
I just got into Skyrim, and that will everything turned up, mods and such, uses 80-100w. In Cyberpunk 2077 it goes to 150-180w, all at 3440x1440 resolution and 60hz locked.
I would put it lower, but -6% is the lowest the drivers allows.

Not quite. I use my 6800xt for other stuff in my NAS/workstation/server etc.

Now that is a good card. I love it. I also let my kids use the rig to play games. I don't play a lot of games anymore, I mostly play retro games (emulation) because most modern games are just copies of each other and boring as all heck. Hopefully that changes. The 6600 was actually a purchase for my main rig as a cheap light gamer and to run Linux. But the price of the card was the part that bothered me the most.

Got my self a 6900xt LC edition and found out that the original bios with 2310mhz memory clock has horrible timings so my points on 3dm were awful
i flashed with asus LC edition and go these results
i limite the card to 355A and 402w
it stays arround 2750mhz during the test
if i increse the power draw i can go beyond but i dont really wanna break do card
