Couldn't believe what I had to read on reddit. But looks like there is something to it.

Surely, this can’t be a policy of the company can it? Unfortunately, it is. Looking through Ubisoft’s international terms of service agreement, it’s spelled out for all to see:
“We may suspend or close your Account and your ability to use one or more Services or part of the Services, at any time, automatically and at our sole discretion where…
upon notification, where your Account has been inactive for more than six months.”

Why exactly are you calling this a "scam game" ??

I don't do games, so please enlighten me.... do you absolutely HAVE to buy/download/play a game every time you log in or what ?? IF not, then what's the harm in just loggin on every so often, then loggin back out, in order to preserve your account standing....

If it is indeed included in the TOS (as shown above), which YOU failed to read before agreeing to it, then that's YOUR fault, not theirs, yes ????

I'm not saying they are either right or wrong for doing this, but they seem to have covered themselves (legally) on this point.

And I know for sure that most banks/financial institutions will do the same thing, although most of them will give you a year before closing your account, but ONLY after sending you a written notice(s) in the mail. And once again, if you ignore the notice(s), that's your problem, not theirs :)

But OTOH, what's the point of opening an account if you aren't gonna use it somewhat regularly ??

"Ubi officials, however, flatly insist whatever happened in Tor’s case isn’t normal and that it has never deleted any account that hasn’t been logged into in less than four years. The company also says any account that has a purchased game tied to it, would also not be up for closure at all."

In the article... so it is purely related to Ubi's interpretation of European law. Won't apply to those in the states. My "unknown" ubi account with FC5 on it was inactive for over a year as I had stopped playing that game but it worked when I logged into it just 2 weeks ago.

Not gonna lie I actually did buy a month of Uplay+ to try FC6 and I maybe played for 30min…I wasn’t hating it but it just didn’t grab me either. I enjoyed FC5 until one of the bosses glitched out I figure because I beat him playing coop with a friend but he was “beaten” but his “zone” didn’t clear so “game over” New Dawn was pretty fun too, the environment was very pretty but had “bullet sponge” mechanics so that turned me off…
My buddy and I are having some fun in GR. Breakpoint they’ve made a lot of improvements since release.
But it had been months since I had any reason to use Uplay. I would be pretty pissed if I lost my account tho I have alot of classic Tom Clancy games I’d hate to lose…

I have almost all the Tom Clancy going back to the Original Ghost Recon and sequels, Rainbow 6s all the Splinter Cells. I may never play them again but Ghost Recon and R6 were the games that got me into PC gaming. I still have my physical copies of GR and R6 but…

Blizzard deleted characters in Diablo 2 on a regular basis, same deal if you don't login every so often you lose your character. Probably to save the few kilobytes of server space.

I don't care if I don't use an account for 5 years... if I've paid into it, you are stealing my money.
That's not cool. Not everyone who games needs to access everything, every day.
Was this part of a signed contract? Is this legal? I can see some legal action coming up.
I'll be first in line.

But OTOH, what's the point of opening an account if you aren't gonna use it somewhat regularly ??

Please, who reads the TOS ??? I got no time for that.

Let's asume you have an Ubisoft account filled with games, and you spent tons of cash for it. You didn't play or login for some time "because" ... Ubisoft eMail's somehow end up in the spam folder ... then you come back to play a new Ubisoft game & realize that all is gone. In my eyes that's a pretty scammy move. Especially hiding it in somewhere burried in a drop down TOS.

And btw. if a bank closes your account they'll cash your balance out, and not keep it for themself. ;)

This is the problem with "Digital Rights Management" if a game has "DRM" then you're basically renting it and not owing it. That's how, and what the "Terms of Service" basically says. They can Delete remove and do what they want to from the game at any time.

I truly agree here. I haven't EVER read any EULA/TOS of any software I've used.

If it is indeed included in the TOS (as shown above), which YOU failed to read before agreeing to it, then that's YOUR fault, not theirs, yes ????

You do realize that just because it is written in the TOS it does mean it would stand scrutiny in a legal case, right ?

If I write in the TOS of a product you bought that I can come by knock on your door and shot you in the head at any moment, I doubt I can get away with saying it was in the TOS and you should have read it so it's all cool. Ridiculous example but you get the point, don't be daft, TOS isn't the impenetrable defense some of you seem to think it is.

Is this a recent change? There was a period of about a year, last year or year before, that I have not played any of their games or logged into their service.

Dangit you guys, I'd read the initial post and in a huff, opened my Ubisoft account and saw that I was okay....then, I saw that Far Cry 6 was going for about 30USD with a promo code, so I snagged it. Thanks a lot guys, bought another new game to add to my inventory of yet to play games! Downloading now with the HD Texture pack....about 100GB worth of download. Bought a couple of games from EGS (Aquanox Deep Descent, Werewolf The Apocalypse) and some recent purchases from Steam (The Outer Worlds, Chernobylite, Industria, Dying Light, Hired Gun). Man, I have bought others a while back in my inventory that I've yet to play!

This is crazy. I have thousands of dollars invested in my Uplay0Ubisoft Connect account. BUt then, I use it pretty much daily.

Exactly. The whole article instantly struck me as typical overinflated BS.

Full article @PCWorld: Could GDPR policy erase your games? It happened to an Ubisoft customer

Log in, or loose everything. The new Ubiscam game. :kookoo:
Yet another reason to love GOG! They'll never delete your account. And even if somehow your account was inaccessible, you still have all your games(presuming you wisely downloaded and backed them up), DRM free for you to play.
I'm pretty sure that this is more than illegal by EU law.
It's even unlawful in the US, though you'd have to fight for your rights.
