Was expecting a bunch of jokes about exploding power supplies, wasn't disappointed :D

I sure hope we won't have to deal with 500W rated cards again. My undervolted 180W 3070 is nice and cool, and runs faster than stock.

They don't need to exist. We should be striving for efficiency not wattage for the sake of wattage just because it's a desktop and ohh it can take it.

Blowout soon, fellow STALKER.

Seriously, Gigabyte solidified their reputation for exploding PSUs with their and NewEgg's handling of the situation.
Even if they change, a decade later people like me will remember.

Man, the P750GM situation has really soiled Gigabyte's reputation in the PSU market.
I feel the issue destroyed Gigabyte's reputation as a whole. It is not about the product but the way they handled or mishandled the issue. The product was known to be bad for no less than 6 to 9 months since the reviews went out. Gigabyte did nothing, but they doubled down on bundling these explosive/ defective PSUs with GPUs in order to move them. When they got called out by GN, they blame it on everyone but did not really bother to stop and examine the product. Personally, I've stopped using their products. Again, not that other brands are perfect, but I've not seen such poor handling of critical issue so far.

To be honest, I've never thought too highly of Gigabyte products in the first place. A decade later, I'm still wondering how brands like Abit went down the toilet when Gigabyte didn't.

Oh gigabyte, when will you learn?

Hey MSI lover, Gigabyte this is the No2 at high performance motherboard and reliability charts.

MSI this is last as No3 and it will never become No2.
Few PSU of a specific model them turn to fireworks, this is not an International event.

Gigabyte it should stop trying to become a Super Market store, and to focus selling of their own production only, at which they have maximum quality control.

Hey MSI lover, Gigabyte this is the No2 at high performance motherboard and reliability charts.
Their B550 Aorus Pro died on me three times and a replacement was DOA, what a quality motherboard manufacturer. Meanwhile my ROG Strix board is still going strong despite the abuse I put it through.

Yeah I'm not buying Gigabyte again either after the fiasco I described above.

It is standardised though, all 12VHPWR PSUs so far has the same connector.
Damn, seems like you're right. I guess that means these connector housings will be available at least, but you'll still need two different types of crimp pins + a crimper that handles both sizes well, which isn't necessarily easy to find if those sense/signal pins are as thin gauge as they look. I get that using a full 16-pin on the PSU side is wasteful in terms of space, but this seems like a poor solution.

The tiny ones are horrible to work with. Had to make some custom debug cables and it was no fun at all.

I never said I abused the three Gigabyte boards. The first time, I changed a DRAM timing and it just died, CPU wasn't being detected. The second time, the BIOS just corrupted itself out of nowhere. I came to that conclusion after not being able to revive the board at all and researching about a known BIOS corruption bug on Aorus boards. The third replacement was DOA.

At that point I said, screw it, and bought a ROG Strix B550-F which was not only cheaper but continues to be better in every way. The 'abuse' in question was overclocking RAM, which, a sane board would fail to POST and reset to default, or can be fixed through a CMOS reset, which I have done 30 times and the board is still going strong. Absolutely inexcusable for Gigabyte's board to die on me after changing a SINGLE DRAM timing, and it wasn't even a huge change.

Yeah, I've tried crimping some fan cables with my (cheap, but otherwise very functional) crimper, and they just end up loose and weak no matter what. At some point I'm either going to have to buy new jaws for it or just a new crimper that is rated to handle stupidly small wiring. I would imagine most custom cabling would leave these pins disconnected, though that would limit their output to "just" 450W IIRC. It'll be fun to see people with OC'd next-gen flagship GPUs complaining that their PC refuses to boot after installing their fancy custom-sleeved cables, or shuts down under heavy load ...

It won't prevent the PC from booting, it'll prevent the GPU from boosting though.

I guess GPUs with these pins might be smart enough to tell if they're disconnected? That would certainly be a nice safety feature.

My understanding is that the extra four pins are designed so the GPU can request additional power from the PSU "on the fly" and the PSU can then respond with how much available power it can deliver. As such, there shouldn't be a problem booting, as long as the GPU is plugged in, with or without the extra four pins, but the card wouldn't be able to reach max boost speeds, if it would require more than the 450 + 75 W possible, without the extra pins.

But in 2010 i spent about 14 cents/kW in 2022 ill spend about 26 cents/kW.
Nah have fun to every one wth the new nvidia with about 850w TGP im out of that bullshit bingo i dont pay nearly 30 euro cents to play 1 hour.

Even that stupid GPU prices, if they come some days to normal i get a x60

Few PSU of a specific model them turn to fireworks, this is not an International event.
That's a generous assessment. More like "every PSU of a specific range of models has a severe design flaw that causes them to blow up due to misconfigured OPP". The flaw is one thing though, it's their response to it that has cemented people's opinions of them: rather than going "oh, crap, our bad, have a refund, we'll be recycling all of these" (i.e. recalling the entire product line) they started bundling them with (extremely hard-to-find) GPUs and essentially forcing them down people's throats, despite knowing full well they were intrinsically capable of destroying both themselves and other hardware.
And yet it will never be forgotten. Hence, they should just give up on PSUs, no one is going to trust them again.
Exactly this. They responded to that situation in the worst possible way, showing themselves as not giving two shits about their customers. This is hardly rare, but it's rare to see it this clearly in circumstances this extreme, and people responded accordingly. What could have been a relatively minor PR blip is now a permanent mark on their reputation.

Actually, no.
Many had one-offs.
Not so many had entire faulty series like that. Not to mention the way they responded to it.
