Its like ridiculous what nvidia has done. My main system is 8.1 based. I have windows 10 on other drives as well as 7.

Usually anything/drivers that works on 7 can be used on 8.1, but they have blacklisted 8.1 in the drivers.

I got a nice 3070ti and its a hassle to enjoy it because everything/my games is on 1 drive which is 8.1 based.

Come on nvidia. your 472.12 driver support is a lie doesnt work on 8.1

Unfortunately W8.0-8.1 is a bit like Vista in being awkwardly trapped between two more popular OS versions with higher market shares. Although W8.1 shares the same Jan 10th 2023 Extended Support Update End-of-Life as W7 ESU, W7 simply seems to be more enduring for market share. nVidia have technically ended W7 support with 472.12, ie, RTX 3060 will work under W7 but newest RTX 3050 will not. If it comes to it and you really don't want to replace W8.1 with W10, your whole system (Ryzen 3600XT, RTX 3070Ti) should all work on W7 "slipstreamed" with relevant XHCI + NVMe drivers (minus DirectX12, DLSS / Ray-Tracing, Freesync support and optimisations for new games).

It is rather silly given as well 7 is EOL and 8 .1 isnt.

Although they did me a favour in the end, I got my 3080 FE and duly was then forced to get 10 finally installed.

Did you see that on writing ? Nvidia released PDF ..
You might need to simply step-up the .NET framework version.

Indeed NVIDIA forgot (?) to add this and other recent GPU's to the Windows 8.0 and 8.1 sections

Unpack driver with 7zip

Open nv_dispi.inf in a text editor

Inject your GPU like this:

[NVIDIA_Devices.NTamd64.6.3]
%NVIDIA_DEV.2482% = Section165, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_2482
%NVIDIA_DEV.0FC0% = Section006, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0FC0

Open NVCleanstall

select "use driver files from disk", navigate to the setup.exe of the unpacked driver
select components to install
select any expert tweak to trigger rebuilding driver signature

NB
you probably missed the latest driver 473.04
same issue and work-around there...

EDIT:
I took another look at 473.30 RTX 3090 Ti launch driver
It is almost empty, so it must be intentional, not forgetfulness.

Code:
[Manufacturer]
%NVIDIA_A% = NVIDIA_Devices,NTamd64.6.1,NTamd64.6.2,NTamd64.6.3,NTamd64.10.0

[NVIDIA_Devices.NTamd64.6.3]

I like that I can disable services/tweak and not break the OS like on 8.1. . I do have other drives with them 10/11 though.

This is what happens when stuff goes out of support. It becomes an increasing basket case. Why don't you just use W10 or W11 and these problems disappear?

Im slowly transitioning basically. Also 8.1 gives great performance is my reasoning. 10 has so much bloat running in the background.

Hi,
Most use shutup10 for easy access to the popular needs

I personally just use a bunch of reg files I've accumulated plus windows update minitool to disable win-10 updating.

When im ready to install after choosing the driver only when it says now ready to install custom driver.

It does the nvidia check system compatibility.

I'm not sure how well NVCleanstall works with Windows 8.1 drivers.

Another idea: disable driver signatures.

If secure boot is off like this:
bcdedit -set loadoptions DISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS
bcdedit -set testsigning ON

If secure boot is on like this:
bcdedit -set loadoptions DISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS
launch advanced startup and select disable signatures

Open device manager and install driver via "have disk method" where you point to the modded INF (not to be confused with manual installation where you select a folder)

These guys on guru3d tried and same situation as me. Nvidia hard blocked any install. Anything I can think of wont work.

I appreciate every ones help.

Its a bit disheartening. I can use the system with ms basic display driver in 1920x1080 and watch youtube. Not that bad.

It might be time to just go W10 and be done with it. It’s worked pretty well for years for me in pretty much its default configuration. You might be able to get this version of the driver to work for now, but later versions are gonna continue to be problematic. Too much hassle in my opinion.

We can see the evidence right here that it’s true. Upgrade the OS, problem solved.

My 2 cents? I hate to say this, but you kinda painted yourself into a corner with Windows 8.1. It's time to move away from it. Either go back to Windows 7(doable if you're willing to live without a few things) or go forward to a newer version of Windows. Windows 10 LTSB/LTSC is a much better option(over 8.1) anyway. And if you want to have access to the app store, then you just have to bite the bullet and go with Windows 10 Pro.

Your alternate option is to move on up to Windows 11. I like it and prefer it to 10 all day long, but that's just me.

I got a clean ltsc install and 7(kind of a challenge to get working with usb but did it) on another drive. Need to sort some programs and files though.

I like the minimal OS experience.

You might be able to manually mod the inf file to remove that requirement.

I'm sorry but 11 really needs the W7 GUI to not be fuggin clunky.
