It's hard to say for me.
I really enjoyed the gaming experience that NES brought - I was (and probably still am if I had the games) a huge fan of the Dragon Warrior games on NES. I never really got into the FF games on this system, but had a few friends that loved them. I enjoyed the countless other games....and some I thought were awful by gaming standards at the time, such as Rambo....that game was awful, but because I had it, I did beat it. What a stupid final boss; helicopter that you throw grenade after grenade while dodging bombs. This Rambo game makes Rambo III look good and Rambo III was awful.
On the other hand, I really liked the RPGs that came on the SNES, such as; Secret of Mana, Super Mario RPG, Breath of Fire 1 & 2, Lufia 1 & 2, Secret of Evermore, Chrono Trigger....the list goes on.
Then again, I did play the crap out of RPGs on the Sega Genesis; Shining Force, Phantasy Star series, Shining in the Darkness....but my favorite game was probably a RTS, Dune: Battle of Arrakis. I played through every campaign mission for each faction and I thought it was awesome, the scream the foot soldiers made when you ran them over.
Although, maybe it was the Gameboy. I had all the FF games for it and the Zelda games, I had the attachable Light Boy, got that light for playing in the dark with the screen magnifier....it was awesome!
I shouldn't forget the PSX, loved some of those RPGs: FFVII, The Legend of Dragoon, Breath of Fire III, Legend of Legaia, King's Field 1 & 2
I'd have to say I don't have a favorite console, but I really did enjoy the gaming boom of consoles from the mid 80s to the mid 90s.
