am trying to follow this list as well: https://cultists.network/140/psu-tier-list/ -
tier lists are often pointless and have been knocked around on forums like jonnyguru (rip) forever. They often come down to popularity contests. Get a well reviewed unit that offer the performance and connection you need for your PC. The Corsair RMx and Focus GX are both excellent.

Because you know its new and you will have some headroom for a possible next hardware upgrade.
Yes, a future proof PSU definitely helps.

Fair enough. At least now i know more about PSU's than i did y'day!

I am awaiting a reply from the fella with the RM850x, so let's see what he has to say. I'll keep you lot updated on what i end up with. :)

Thanks for the pointers. Much appreciated!

Hmm, i did a search at the available stores, and so far, i found these candidates:
- Seasonic Focus GX 750w
- EVGA SuperNova GT 750w

And yeah, no Amazon here makes things unnecessary "problematic" from time to time, i must admit....

Seasonic TX850 = too much above my price, unfortunately. :/
would reco focus gx straight away. best one. no need to overpay for the primes. or get prime plat, titanium is overpriced and not needed.

Ahh, thanks for clearing that up.

Thanks for commenting in this thread as well!

Yea, i do want to be on the safe and more quiet side, so an upgrade is on my agenda.

I have now found these alternatives that are well within my budget:
- Asus ROG Strix 750W (€80, used for 1 week)
- Seasonic Focus GX 750W (€90, new)
- Corsair RM850x (€80, new)
- Corsair RM1000x (€90, used for 1 month)
- Corsair RM750x (€90, used for 1 month)

Surely one of them is a good enough option? I am considering either the RM850x or the Seasonic Focus GX 750w.

I am trying to follow this list as well: https://cultists.network/140/psu-tier-list/ - and all of the above are mentioned there.

Any thoughts on that?
don't get used any, and asus strix looks like very "gaming" device, so i doubt there is some actually good stuff inside lol

Seasonic focus gx750w, would be my pick. As solid as you'll find for the money. Seasonic stands behind their products and wont jerk you around if you ever have a problem. Speaking of which. My biggest question with a used unit would be, what kind of warranty service can you expect to receive?

I have two Corsair RM750x, never had a problem with them. I never hear the fans or any coil wine out of them.
I've seen recommendations for that model being particularly good but I don't recall why.
Not sure about getting one used vs new but if it's from a trustworthy source why not?
In terms of wattage per prices you listed, I would consider the RM1000x (assuming trustworthy source) for the most bang for the money.
Their may be other differences per model so I am a bit skeptical about the RM850x having a new value cheaper than the others, not sure if you loose quality for the 10 cheaper price.

The RM750x and RM850x have the same project, the 750x is just built a bit leaner due to its lower designated capacity. If you are happy with the 750, the 850 should make you happy, too. I'm not sure if Corsair's warranty is transferable, so I would rule the RM1000x out

It'd really be between the Seasonic and the Corsair RM imo, either way OP goes, they should be satisfied. The RM850 is of course a little stronger than the Seasonic, and should have more room to operate as a result.

Im sorry but what are these japanese caps you guys mention? Is it really a necessary thing for me to get, or?
No it is not necessary. However IMHO it is just a superior component that you need in your PSU. The Quality Control is outstanding.

Of that list I'd take the new Corsair RM850x
Not bad. It's a 80+ Gold 850 Watt PSU. JUST BE AWARE YOU ARE ALSO BUYING A BRAND. It is a decent brand but you ARE going to be a premium.

If you are new to building then I understand. Go the safe route.

However I look at all brands, do my research as well as looking at all reviews on the brand in question.

Which is why I will be getting another Rosewill if they use Japanese caps and save around 30 bucks in the process.

Hmmm, yeah, the 550w will be a spare. I just don't know which of their 850w models to go for... GT or?
The one you listed earlier is an excellent choice! Go with it unless you know you will need more wattage later, then go with an 850W.

Well IMO I rather pick the one with the 10 year warranty vs the 7 year... ;)
Perhaps. As a rule I ignore the warranty from well known and reliable brands as long as it's at least a 5 year warranty.

The EVGA 550w G3 PSU is actually a really good unit, and it's probably one of the best 550w units that have come out in a long time. It's actually made by Super Flower but rebranded as an EVGA. I suppose the concern is voltage spikes from the GPU..... otherwise the 3060ti pulls about 200-220w or so depending on the clock speeds. The spikes might cause the system to shut down, but the spikes wont break your system. You really should get a larger unit if this is happening.

Also, while gaming the 12700k isn't going to consume gobs of wattage.... like some people assume. Well, most of the time it wont. Maybe 70w-130w depending on the game. From what I've seen on youtube benchmarks.... Cyberpunk seems to make ADL pull more wattage than other games.

I don't know what they sell in your location but some models like the EVGA G6/Seasonic Focus, EVGA T2 or P2, Super Flower Leadex III Gold, Seasonic Prime, and the Corsair RMx or HX series are top of the line.

Thank you all for the help and advises!

I did go with the new in box RM850x for about €/$80, which is well within my price limit. The owner have had it for half a year but like many of us norwegians, we are not that fast with selling stuff we don't need, heh. So yeah, the warranty is still available for quite some time, which is great.

According to reviews and you lot, it seems like a safe and a good enough choice for me and my field of use.

As for games, I guess the most demanding game i play is Assetto Corsa, so yeah, not that....hardcore of a gamer i am not.

And liiike always; thanks a lot for all the help, TPU-legends! Much appreciated! Would not have landed on the right choice without you!

And yes the 550w i have now, will be a solid backup to have in hand, i reckon. It has done a great job for me so far.

Yea the extra wattage will help you when you expand your rig. Have fun with your build.

No Amazon in your country makes recommending hardware difficult. I suggest you do a bit of browsing on your local hardware websites to find some PSUs in your price range, then post a list and we can suggest which to consider further and which to avoid.

I also strongly suggest consulting the PSU tier list which ranks PSUs by their performance and build quality. It is not authoritative, but is a very useful reference.

My personal recommendation would be a Corsair RM 750W. While all the other divisions of Corsair are competing with each other to see which can put the most RGB into things, their PSU division simply keeps churning out great products year after year - thanks to a large degree to the the fact they hired John Gerow aka Jonnyguru, the man who almost single-handedly made proper PSU testing a thing, as their Director of R&D.

I noticed that list you linked has some PSU's that can switch from single to multi rails. I have never heard of this before. Why would someone want that? I was always told to just get single rail if I am gamer.

Corsair has that option in some PSU. Gives you little more protection on each split (most of those PSU are still single 12v rail regardless) if needed depending on your PC set up. Doubtful the average gamer would even notice if their PSU was single 12v or running in a split. If you want more info check out this post, it's old but still relevant

be quiet! Dark Power 12 850W ATX 2.52

10 year warranty, newest ATX standard, dead silent, likely every safety standard included, single rail switch (reduced chances of frying your components), full modular, titanium standard.

Little costly, but your components will thank you for the pure energy it provides.

You have a modern GPU but I understand the new batch are likely to require significantly more power. If your budget can extend and if there is any possibility you might go that way at some time I suggest looking at a 1000w unit. Also, the new ATX 3.0 version is starting to be introduced and you may want to consider upgrading to that standard.

So, then it would be the Seasonic, as they offer a 10-year warranty vs EVGA's 7-year. But, is 750w enough for me and the field of use as i mentioned in my OP? I also run 4 monitors quite so often, but they probably don't take too much power, or?

750w is more than enough, people seriously overestimate how much power their systems need most the time. And like someone else said, monitors pull power from outlets not the PSU.

I find that ridiculous advice, so am not sure I trust the rest.
There really aren't any psus made without PFC that have a.) been made in the last 20 years or b.) are of even a baseline level of acceptable quality.

Just sayin'. That kind of justifies the statement.

I wouldn't consider anything that has less than semi-modular, gold rated, and auto fan stop.
