Personally I wouldn't buy anything from msi seeing they were caught scalping their own gpu's.
Are you mad at them because they got caught? because if you are mad at them for selling their products at inflated prices, I hate to break the news to you about the other board partners for Nvidia/AMD.

Lately, MSI has got better than ASUS in vfm at the normal priced tier (<$250). Top tier boards are all great or almost there but too expensive to bother with.

Intel official paper, ECC MEMORY SUPPORT for the 12900K.
Intel official paper, ECC MEMORY SUPPORT for the W680 chipset (that IS also part of the ALDER LAKE PLATFORM).

Out of 8700K to 12900K, only the latter supports ECC memory. 8700K, 9900K, 10900K and 11900K.

Here's what I've said:

There is also an article over at TweakTown, and even better one at Synopsys which for enhanced stability it says and I quote "As this scheme does not offer any protection against errors occurring on the DDR channel, on-die ECC is used in conjunction with side-band ECC for enhanced end-to-end RAS on memory subsystems." and from the same article there's another quote "As DDR5 and LPDDR5 support much higher data-rates than their predecessors, they support additional ECC features for enhancing the robustness of the memory subsystem. On-die ECC in DDR5 and Link-ECC in LPDDR5 are two such RAS schemes to further bolster the memory subsystem RAS capabilities."

Only DDR5 requires "on-die ECC", meaning if you opt for a DDR5-supported PC such as the Alder Lake platform, that DDR5 platform will provide you with better, faster, enhanced and more stable experience than it was possible before the launch of DDR5.

IN MY ORIGINAL POST AS I HAVE INCLUDED IN THIS COMMENT, I DID NOT MENTION ANY SPECIFIC BRANDS, ANY SPECIFIC MEMORY BRAND, ANY SPECIFIC MOTHERBOARD BRAND, ANY SPECIFIC MEMORY MODULE MANUFACTURER, ANY SPECIFIC CHIPSET BY INTEL.

ONLY 12TH GEN INTEL CORE PROCESSORS (IN BOLD) AND XEON LINEUP OF PROCESSORS SUPPORT ECC MEMORY. THERE IS NO OFFICIAL DOCUMENT REGARDING WHETHER THE UPCOMING 13900K (RPL-S PLATFORM) SUPPORTS ECC MEMORY.

I SAID IN GENERAL (ON THE WHOLE), WITH THE ALDER LAKE PLATFORM, WE CAN HAVE THAT LUXURY IN THE DDR5-SUPPORTED SYSTEMS, ALDER LAKE PLATFORM CAN OPERATE WITH FASTER, ENHANCED STABILITY THAN ANY PREVIOUS MAINSTREAM ARCHITECTURES.

Hope you find it helpful as I did. Cheers
DDR5 didn't add ECC for increased reliability over DDR4 or DDR3. It was added, because, in the words of Linus Torvalds
the data reliability is so low that without some kind of redundant data it's simply not reliable at all
They literally can't get DDR5 to work without on-die ECC; hence calling it ECC is wrong.

Did they do this?
they have a department that sells refurbished and EOL items on platforms like ebay, they were selling high tier GPUs for well over MSRP during the height of GPU prices about a year ago

My motherboard model is MEG x570s Ace Max. It is second most expensive Msi mobo after Godlike.
While it is more expensive than most of Asus mobos, the capacitors are not military class. However, some claim this is only a marketing gimmick.

Yeah, nothing to worry about it's just as good as the Dark Hero, Aorus Master, and definitely better than the Taichi.

Military class components my last longer I would assume..

It's just BS marketing.... They likely both use very similar components that are overkill even for a maxed out 5950X in that price range.

Longevity even with the best components is never guaranteed a motherboard with all the best components could last 6 months and die randomly while a budget motherboard that cut every corner could last a decade. So while in theory buying a motherboard with better components, more pcb layers etc should make it less prone to failure it doesn't always work out that way

maybe, maybe not. It's just a class that fits some military/aero specs but it's mostly from the OEMs stating "hey these will fit your needs/specs" and they simply re-class their consumer version of the product.

DDR5 UDIMMs only error corrects on reads, not on writes or bus transfers. It also does not have a dedicated parity buffer nor the extra 8 ECC bits per channel. DDR5 UDIMM is 2x32-bit, DDR5 ECC DIMMs are 2x40-bit. The incorporation of any level of error correcting, in this case on-die ECC within the rows/columns that stores a small amount of parity data for correcting errors on a read burst, was entirely to facilitate the increased operating speeds and help keep yields high for DDR5 assemblies. It allows manufacturers more flexibility to sell DRAM that has a few extra failed bits than previously, increasing yields and decreasing waste.

Nothing about on-die ECC increases reliability over DDR4, it's simply there to maintain the expected reliability of prior generations of DRAM when shipping what would previously have been failed DRAM dies destined for scrap. I.E. DDR5 is actually LESS reliable, but they handle the error rate increase with a small correction on reads.

According to Wikipedia, Asus has 14700 employees and 28.4$ billion of net income, yet MSI has only 2672 employees and 16,9$ billion of net income. As a company Asus looks bigger and better. But as a general motherboard product line, which one is more premium? Asus or MSI?

This is such a misguided way to judge quality of anything. You can never assume that more money means more quality, there are simply too many variables at play to make such a broad assumption. As an example of this, ECS is considered a very low quality brand and yet still has more employees than ASUS, and roughly equivalent revenue. They also handle the assembly of many of ASUS's boards, who are considered high quality. So how is it that one is low quality, and the other is high quality, yet one that is low quality makes the other's boards and they have roughly the same employee count and revenue?

It's all meaningless comparison.

so is the entire point of this thread because you have buyers remorse over some caps? Like @oxrufiioxo stated, they probably use the same caps. FYI, MSI used to market their mobos as "military grade II" where they claimed instead of just the caps the whole mobo was military grade and tested. Of course MSI where the ones testing the mobos claiming they passed military grade II.

Asus has been good to me, that’s why I keep going back. I think I would buy an MSI over a Gigabyte though.

Military Grade II means nothing since it can mean whatever MSI wants it too. Most of the time I see this for electronic gear, it means a light environmental industrial rating.

To the op, I think you should look at Epox motherboards, since they are the best!

But really, you cannot go wrong with ether Asus or MSI for quality, but I would choose the one that best fits the features you are looking for.

55c to 105c solid caps, stability, voltage surge and tolerance? So what most high end caps offer...perhaps you should look up rhetorical question and explain it to us next

The question you should be asking, is which company will take care of you when your $500-$600 baby takes a dump all over itself.

Brand loyalty is a poison. Eventually you'll get a fatal dose. Just choose a motherboard that fits your requirements. Personally, I rely heavily on reviews to diagnose any quality issues.

For example I always see military class components in Asus but MSI has none.
Also Asus always have ECC (memory correction) whilst MSI doesn't care.
Military class means cheapest that functions..

This. We're basically down to 4 mother board builders left: Asus, MSI, Gigabyte and AsRock. They can all have stellar and abysmal models.

Also, if you nitpick, you can find faults across the board, too. For example, Asus is not always Linux-friendly. The one time I needed support, MSI replied back to me with a phrase from the manual. MSI also used smaller flash chips on recent AMD boards and could not offer Zen3 support without dropping support for Zen1. And so on.

Just decide what's important to you (for example, I value dual-BIOS or any other ability to recover from a failed BIOS update) and compare models.

Regarding z690, asus is absolute garbage. Two of their most expensive motherboards (hero and apex) were both shet, one literally catching fire and the other one being a terrible overclocker. MSI the last 3-4 years (starting from z490) has done an amazing job and is the best motherboard manafacturer by far right now. Gigabyte is also really good, all of their motherboards are feature packed but they also all suffer from memory overclocking issues.

Actually, their upcoming X670E Valkyrie doesn't look too bad on the specs. I don't like this comment on the specs page however: "Caution!! The specification and pictures are subject to change without notice!"
