New CPUs are around the corner. If you are going to jump to 5000 you might as well take advantage of the prices and get at least a 5900X the thing about the 5900 series is they have the highest single core clock. The 5900X will do 4.9 GHZ single core and the 5950X 5.2 GHz. That will be the snappiest performance you will feel on AM4. If you are on a budget the 5600 is actually a really compelling CPU.

The 5900X is 50% more expensive than 5800x here. Ill jump to 5000 for my home computer , i am living at a different location at the moment (no need for explanations) and this is with what i work with at this location.
I dont know, i got used with 8 cores CPUs for a long time now (AMD.) , ill just go for an 8 core replacement, 5600 has same or less performance in multicore than 3700x , that could be only a single thread upgrade (good upgrade but i think the 5700x is way better option).

Your case actually offers very generous 170mm CPU cooler allowance, so fitting a big HSF shouldn't be a problem. MMORPGs love the 5800X3D and it would be my recommendation, but it's a more expensive option which needs top-end cooling for MT loads. The regular 5800X has similar requirements. Your EUR 50 cooler budget is a bit limiting to consider any of these options IMO - if you want full performance.

On the other hand, you are on an 8c/16t CPU already, and your use cases need these threads. No point in going for the 5600X, so the 5700X may be the only sensible choice for you.

If that is the case then I would but how far will the 5900x drop in a couple weeks when the 7900X launches? That could be the time to get what you want. I expect the 7000 series to put serious pressure on the 5000 series pricing. If the 7950X is 40% faster than the 5950X it will do the same thing the 3900X did to the 2920X in terms of pricing.

Yep , i know this and you are right.
Is it worth getting the 5800X over 5700x considering it draws almost double power? Here where im standing at , its not the money difference , i would like to get the 5800x but feels like the 5700x can fit better in this system , lower power draw (helps this PSU and VRM) , lower heat and not too much behind the 5800x.

I would go for 5800x , no questions asked , if i would know that my PSU can handle it (prob i wont know if i dont try it :D ) , cooler can handle it , my motherboard (b450 tomahawk max) can deliver the power for it , and ofc if i am getting better performance. ( no point having an 5800x with 5700x performance because low power or too much heat , thow if ill be using this system long enough i could just upgrade the cooler and get the extra performance or just buy a better one from start)
If i want to be on the safe side i know the 5700x would just overperform in many ways my 3700x and its the way to go, i just want to hear different opinions , mostly from people that are using this CPUs (or educated guess) .

EDIT: Long story short: What cooler do i need for 5800x and what would be fine for 5700x , can this PSU handle it ? (it used to handle 1800x) Can the motherboard VRM handle it?
If your usage is mostly gaming then 5700X is the way to go against 5800X.
Gaming wise 5700X is only a margin (~2%) behind 5800X and their power is really close too (during gaming). They have 100MHz difference and cores/threads is the same. So their gaming load is exactly the same.

Comparison between 3700X/5700X/5800X and many more

I am getting convinced to go for 5700x so far , is ID-COOLING SE-224-XT a good option for it? As for multithread performance i dont mind if its like 10% slower in rendering as long it does the job (im not that much in a hurry) as long it gives me a nice boost from 3700x. I dont want to pump the benchmarks to the max but ,at the same time, i dont want my cpu to sit at 85C during some gaming / workloads or make my PSU fail and system shutdown because of power or thermals, i am only considering 5800x for the extra power it can push but i dont want to change the PSU or motherboard for that to happen ( or to buy 100E + cooler) .

The 5700X seems to be the obvious choice you have convinced me of that.

Nevertheless it wouldn't hurt much to wait a couple of months and see how prices shape after Zen4 launch

All 5000 CPUs above the 5700X are 142W PPT. Meaning the requirements for power and cooling can be tricky under specific circumstances, given the current state of your system (PSU/CPU cooler)

Heh, that is interesting. I learned something today, thank you.

I don't know if that explains why my 3700X idles at a far lower current draw versus the 5800X. Even my 5600X uses more power at idle than the 3700X.

I've kept my 3700X in my daily driver PC precisely because it has the smallest electrical footprint at idle amongst all of my CPUs (well, at least the Windows ones).

The 5700X should have a similar footprint to the 3700X. They're 65W spec CPUs, technically you can get the 5800X and up to the same by enabling Eco Mode. I've tried it with my 5950X, it's actually pretty neat. Costs a bundle of performance when you have 16 cores though

Yes, i was asking for people opinion for the best CPU + Cooler combo that can suite my needs on a longer term before i retire this system.

A bench i could find for the game i am mostly playing: (the gpu is not that important , 2060 super can max it out easy, 3700x i think it does close to 3600 + 5% 10% more maybe?)
The bench are relative as you cant really bench WoW you can only aproximate.

Keep in mind that the RTX 3090 performs relatively poorly at 1080p (the GPU core is too wide, and it doesn't scale down to lower resolutions very well, so the hardware goes quite underutilized), so this may or may not reflect the actual experience you'll be looking at. However, you can expect the 5700X to do roughly the same performance as the 5800X in this specific use case.

EDIT: Long story short: What cooler do i need for 5800x and what would be fine for 5700x , can this PSU handle it ? (it used to handle 1800x) Can the motherboard VRM handle it?

105W (142W PPT) CPUs would be best run at least on a 240mm AIO. But I know the case you have and... it's unpleasant to work with. If replacing it is not an option, get the 5700X instead of the 5800X and use the money you've saved to buy a high-end low-profile heatsink if you can. TPU has a nice review on the new Noctua low-profile tower, you should consider that one:

It is a bit pricy, but you don't build a computer every day... treat yourself, maybe? :p

On the other side , i dont know what the PPT was on the 1800x , but my PSU worked great with it and an Rx 590 and thats higher (i think) than 2060 super + some CPU but the PSU its pretty old now , not that i couldnt buy a new one but from a little upgrade ill go to change the CASE , change the PSU , change the Motherboard and so on :), im going with the flow and its not what i want for this computer.

RX590 is the same 175W and if I can remember correctly the 1800X is a 95W TDP (~125W PPT)

I just googled it now and you are right , i know the 1800x was 95W but i thought that 590 that i had was like 250W or something (it had 2x 6 pin vs 1x8 pin if i remember right).

I just googled it now and you are right , i know the 1800x was 95W but i thought that 590 that i had was like 250W or something (it had 2x 6 pin vs 1x8 pin if i remember right).
This info I got from here:

...and now seems a little odd to me since the RX580 is a 185W

(Sorry) Ok it was before that (this is how old this PSU is) i had an ASUS Radeon R9 280X DirectCU II. (working perfect withj 1800x)

Power consumption Radeon R9-280X

  1. System in IDLE = 119W
  2. System Wattage with GPU in FULL Stress = 352W
  3. Difference (GPU load) = 231W
  4. Add average IDLE wattage ~10W
  5. Subjective obtained GPU power consumption = ~ 243 Watts
Edit: most of the time i had 3 hdds and not many peripherals that req power ( 1 portable HDD + 2 internal , sata or nvme)

That was what this 530W power supply could handle with any issues, i see people with RTX 3000 (lower end) having problems with 750W PSU and i dont get it ^^, prob the spikes are too much for the PSU capacitors.

Apples and oranges.
Today's GPUs, and foremost the RTX3000 line have such a dynamic operation (voltage/current transients), unparalleled to what it was 5 years ago, that are putting a lot of stress on the PSU not only on their wattage delivery but on their response time too.

To be on topic , its still like the 250W card with an 95W CPU ( with my OC even more power .. on a B350 PCMATE ) was pulling more power from the PSU than a change from 3700x to 5800x with my current GPU would (im guessing) . Now i dont know what 5800x + 2060 super can pull and be stable ( considering on how many people are complaining with their rtx 3000 cards and even 750W PSU , maybe newer PSU are worse ? i doubt and they shoudnt be) but i cant leave the 5800x option away.

550watt psu will power the 5800x and the 2060 super no worries. Get the 5800x if it's only 25 pound/dollars more than the 5700x

I'm running a 5800x and an rtx 2080 with a corsair 550 psu.
