So they are launching this things and the 4xxx cards. I guess we will not see a 4060 or 4060 Ti for at least a year or so.

looks like RDNA3 will finally have a big gap to take some market share for once. its been a long time coming, and I have a feeling AMD is going to come out swinging and going nom nom nom at the chance.:love::love::love::love::love::love::love:

I'd rather try my luck with an Arc card over going with another Nvidia abomination, but that's just me. I guess it would be because I'm curious to see how well they'd work.

The 3060 8GB appears to want to land between the 3050 and 3060....it's a wide gap that's already been filled by AMD's 6600. I'm not sure what direction the new 3060Ti would go, but AMD also has a card just above the 3060Ti (6700XT) and two that falls between the 3060 and 3060Ti (6600XT & 6650XT).

It seems strange that Nvidia would be holding on to these two new GPUs just because Intel is looking to finally come into the picture. Wouldn't it have been better to put them out to combat those ranges with AMD's equivalents? Those are three performance areas that have been home to AMD's offerings for a while now without direct, equivalent competition from Nvidia.

Wait, MLID has some credibility left?
Why do some people have a problem with MLID? I don't get it....they hold it against him when leaks change which is ridiculously unfair because these companies are changing their plans all the time....people act like when he reports a leak a year and a half before a product is released, it should be set in stone and that if anything changes, that means he is a liar or something.....THAT'S THE NATURE OF LEAKS! They're wrong and they change....so stop acting like if MLID doesn't exactly predict the future he's a fraud or something.

Just ridiculous expectations....if you don't like MLID and have a problem with the inherent nature of leaks, then don't pay attention to them.

The 3050 is still selling for $70 more on average than the 6600 despite being slower. This is true over the entire stack. Nvidia's probably barely even taking Radeon pricing into account.

i'm going to be killed for this.

Nvidia badge has a premium. They are selling more newer cards then AMD, no matter what AMD does. And any Nvidia used card is sold for more and quicker then a equivalent AMD one (unless there's some mining use for them). It doesn't matter the reasons, it's a fact. So they don't need to lower their pricing according to the competition.

He seems to have slotted quite nicely in the gap AdoredTV left. Like his predecessor, the "leaks" seem to be about throwing as much shit at the wall as possible. Surely something will stick, eventually.
Anyway, the problem with MLID, his ilk, and the publications that keep reporting their "leaks" is that they whip fans into a frenzy of hype and unrealistic expectations. And once the actual products drop, instead of judging them on their own merits and whatever claims the company has made, they get compared to the wildly exagerated leaks. Disappointment and fanboy wars ensue.

A tried and true technique employed by prophets and oracles time out of mind. Not to say that's an excuse or anything.

Fanboy wars ensue regardless. I'm not convinced that these folks make them demonstrably worse.

So according to this prices wont get any better for older gen cards even if there is oversupply with massively reduced demand.

they already did this with 1060 6gb gddr5x, i think price was the same, but not sure.

I got 2 of those back then. Because they were relatively unknown, they went out at a pretty cheap price. Paid $200 when I got them which was cheaper than most 6GB 1060s at the time. Great cards. Let's see the 6X TI at $350 and I'll be buying them right up.

They dont lower prices "cuz they dont compete on price", instead they deliberately confuse consumers, create E-waste or destroy choice.
Well it's not like they didn't learn it from the best (or worst) in Intel, Apple(?) among others! Before 9900k or 10900k they didn't lower prices for more than a decade, at least since Conroe from what I remember.

Really? Must've been nice cards, I almost forgot GPU's were sanely priced at some point in time before the pandemic.

"It's not old fish, it's a whole new thing!"

why not just buy the equivalent 4**** series card?!

Well sure, when will that be available? Nvidia controls their product launch schedulles and it was already made pretty clear the new generation will be available on a drip feed as old stocks moves through and is price adjusted to minimize losses.

The hope is that RDNA disrupts that but AMD seems to have a similar conundrum - probably to a less degre as it may - but remains to be seen what competition will look like anyway: will RDNA 3 be good? Will it bring more feature parity against Nvidia?

There's also Intel ARC... or is there??????? They could disrupt the prices a bit but that's hard to do when there's so many headlines prophetizing their cancelation and they still can only produce teasers on top of more teasers...

that vram overclocked like a beast, it was insane. My brother bought one, but died after one year and got a refund. Great deal.

didn't AMD did the exact same thing, there was a big gap between the first card and the last (the 6400 i think) it was like 1 and a half year or something like that

That was my point, the only hope would be that AMD pressured Nvidia's lineup so they'd need to release newer stuff but AMD will also have old stock to move through even if not as much

They will also release the cards like that, you need to start from the top and then get the reject silicon for the lower tier and so on. Not sure why it takes so long to get to the cheaper cards but probably waiting for manufacturing cost to go down as they don't make much money on a rx6400 for example. If you consider the card overall cost and that AMD only sells the chip, it's peanuts for AMD and for TSMC probably doesn't even cover the water bill.

AMD is in a much better position because they can juggle a lot of parts & switch to more (selling) product lines instead of trying to squeeze the juice out of existing/old ones ~ like they could move console SoC's to 6/5nm (mid cycle refresh?) or move some of their best selling CPU's to 6nm. Nvidia doesn't have that luxury even though their DC revenues are insane.

Yes and no, different product tiers also have dedicated chips (usually), not really just rejects like we see with CPUs (ryzen is just the same chiplet re-packaged into the different ryzen, threadripper and epyc).

I think the reason comes down to economics and how they've been doing things within their duopoly: release high end, get hype for the platform/generation, trickle down other products and let halo effect (aka they have the best product ever so the middle should also be good for the price) sell the stuff. Since there's only 2 players in the game no reason to fire everything if the competition is not also doing it.
