Agreed, the Aorus Master really has some sweet features. If the classified is a bust, might go with that, I did Amazon so Bezos can eat the return cost if needed. He can afford it.

You really can't go wrong with either board honestly both are pretty awesome the Master has more features but the EVGA has better CS.... Not a ton of consumer feedback on the EVGA board likely due to its original price but the little I can find seems solid.

Had I jumped into the Alderlake party I likely would have grabbed a Hero and boy that likely would have been bad thankfully Asus came to their senses and did a recall on it.

I have a B660-I if you're interested. Used it once, no bclk for my 12400F so I used it 2 weeks and now it's boxed up. Have installed a Beta bios, which didn't seem to have any issues. Built in wifi and BT and has 2 M2 slots. Dual Dr5 slot board so it handles memory pretty well. The only other option here is a Z series chipset if you like high memory speeds. Most Matx boards aren't great for Dr5 mem clocking.

My Corsair Dominator Platinum's 6000 are SK Hynix
Oficially they came with 36-38-38-76 @ 1.25V
Have them at 36-36-36-76 1.35V

I'm sure they can clock better, but haven't tried yet.

Yep at stock that looks right. The Hynix is M-Die, basically best of the "first" gen DDR5.

However, most people are able to get these up to 6600, lots of people with timings and instructions on this thread. < link

From what I gather on that thread, 6800 seems to be where it becomes very hit or miss with M-Die, having to loosen timings up so much it becomes pointless.

Hynix A-Die are out now though. Upping the bar a bit (from that thread) - almost all of the people in that thread who ran out and got some of this new Hynix DDR5 are pushing 7000+. Like this guy, running 7000 C30 and higher.

I'd really like to hear what you think of it as you get it setup. At $299 it seems like a steal for a 10 layer PCB motherboard with a massive power delivery setup and top shelf components, I just can't find more than a few reviews of it and very few comments on forums. Saw nothing negative at all, just very little on it.

Agreed, hopefully EVGA is a going concern. I have to wait for the 12900KS, might be a week.

First full review \ leak is out for what appears to be 13900K retail.

This thing is a monster. 8 more e-cores doesn't explain this, it's near 50% average more performance in MT vs 12900K.

AL was almost impossible to get below 60ns on DDR5-6000 with AL, most will need an 8+ layer MB and 6400+ memory to do this :

Yeah, that was what I figured would occur. The prices are too damn high! I am guessing that the 13700K will be near identical to the 12900K but with latency improvements, better ram overclocks, and probably higher clocks relative to lower wattages, so incrementally better in a usual Intel Tick/Tock way. The 13900K is just too expensive for my budget.

Some QoL things I am accustomed to on AsRock aren't really present, I liked AsRock's common sense bios layout, and the z690 network adapter didn't work out of the box, I had to move a driver over on a thumb drive in order to have a working NIC, which made the Win 10 install less straight forward.

I did the bios update to latest, the original bios had a very slow boot.

The included thumb drive with drivers on it didn't work.

I ran CPU-Z CPU bench and Aida Cache and Memory. Here are the basic benchmarks out of the box, only setting was enabling XMP.

I am running it now, barebones on my desk. Seems okay. Some QoL things I am accustomed to on AsRock aren't really present, I liked AsRock's bios layout and the z690 network adapter didn't work out of the box, I had to move a driver over on a thumb drive. The included thumbdrive with drivers on it didn't work. I ran CPU-Z CPU bench and scored 842 Single, 12200 Multi. For reference Here are the basic benchmarks out of the box, only setting was enabling XMP.

I will need to install R23, I will get back to you on that. The CPU-Z benchmark will push it to 95C pretty instaneously, but it will drop to 30C idle once the load is lifted. The Cache and Memory benchmark generated a lot of coil whine.

From the motherboard? Been lucky to never get a motherboard or PSU with coil whine would drive me crazy probably would replace it instantly lol.

It would have to be, there are no other devices plugged in, it is sitting in a pile bare on my desk with connections being one ssd, two ram sticks, the heatsink, my mouse and keyboard, and the power supply.

How are the temps running R23 with your cooler?

100C, gets there and stays there. When I shut off R23, the temp immediately drops to 30C so the NHD15S has good contact, just a demanding processor. I'll have to set aside some time and undervolt it.

Sounds about right for that chip even a 360mm aio would struggle with fans maxed out I'm sure.... I'm sure you'll be able to get a good balance of temps/performance on that chip with some voltage tinkerin.

That's actually a really good latency score on AIDA for 6000 C36.

I saw a couple of people had posted the same about the NIC in EVGA forums. Seems like a common nuisance issue.

Nice, it is purely out of box. I haven't had time to tweak it. It appears stable, but I didn't really put it through the ringer. I also migrated to windows 10 21H2 LTSC from 1809, I haven't tested to see if e-core performance is correct. Are there any methods for evaluating e-core scheduling? If it doesn't schedule correct I guess I'd go to 11.

I doubt it is scheduling correctly since it is win 10. I've been on 11 since shortly after it came out, haven't had any issues other than a slightly laggier 'start' menu and initially it bogged down SSD access a bit, but that was patched long ago.

Sure I can do that. Right now I am messing about with undervolting/underclocking 1.2Vcore/5Ghz, which runs quite cool. (<80C)

Undervolting to ~1.2Vcore (reported 1.168Vcore) and underclocking (by 200mhz) drops the reported package power from 350 watts to 180 watts!

I think so. It started having problems after I installed three nvme drives. After that, I had issues with running more than a single nvme drive and a videocard. I am still using it as an office computer, in fact I am using it now. I believe part of the problem was that I was an early adopter of Z370 (bought in 2017) and there was probably something off with the board.

At present, I am running it with a 1650 Super, a Microcenter Inland 1TB NVMe, and a WD 1TB Blue HDD. If it gets me a few more years as an office machine, that won't be bad. I'd like to get 10 years off it, I'm halfway there now.

Thanks, figured I'd ask your long term opinion of what from memory was great until it wasn't. Pointing out the weakness in earlier NVMe implementation was very helpful.

Pretty much. Only I assembled an office machine that developed gaming pretensions instead of the other way around. All of those efficiency settings baked in will sure come in handy when it makes that transition to eking power out of the grid.

You seem to be dead set on the 12700K, I am considering the 13700K myself. Wish I lived near a Microcenter though. However I too am considering ASRock this time for a MB. I've always been an ASUS fan, but they are just charging way too much now for anything with more than 4 SATA 3 ports. I'm looking at the ASRock Z790 PG Riptide.

For RAM, I went with Corsair Vengeance last time, but this time I'm looking at a G. Skill Trident Z5 DDR 5 6400 2x16GB kit. I want just the non RGB one. Corsair's prices are too high anymore.

GOD I miss EVGA GPUs, that is a very sad situation. I currently have their GTX 1080 SC, a real good card.
